Yeah, I know we worry, “Am I that guy?” And maybe we are. Or maybe we’ve been Tyler at some point.
I still say it’s the lesser of two evils. Tyler’s experience is something that happens to someone every day in Hollywood. Multiple someones. And the more likely outcome is that they are enticed into a cult when they’re down and thoroughly demoralized. I’m not talking about Skientologie, which is a legitimate religion. I mean the pernicious secret cults like UCB or Groundlings. They seduce aspiring performers with promises to teach them about sketch comedy and writing. Soon enough, they’re paying more and more for “higher levels” of comedy enlightenment and worshipping dead mythic figures like Del Close.
I’m not saying that UCB or Groundlings are a front for the Chinese CIA, but I’m not saying it because I don’t want to get sued.

Just as people protesting at a BLM rally are protesting not only a specific instance of police brutality against a black person, but the general shittiness of everyday life of black people (poor housing, education, jobs, healthcare, etc), people spouting conspiracy theories are in a way protesting not only a specific instance of elites abusing children on an island, but the general shittiness of everyday life of non elites (poor housing, education, jobs, healthcare, etc).
But because their thoughts are undisciplined and so strongly motivated by emotions, it often comes out as a jumbled, incoherent, and nonsensical mess.

this reminds me too much of my year-long manic episode.
i used to be very self-absorbed while thinking that i was just being positive. i would talk to everyone about my ideas while preaching "i'll get them done. i know a lot of people don't get things done but i will. im different. if you believe hard enough, you can do anything. i will get my own fandom." i sounded like an anime protagonist, and even in the moment i thought so, but i thought it was charming. ive never been told off for this behavior and nobody has ever said they've noticed, but i know how it affected my mental state. i know how i was. i would wear sunglasses indoors cuz i thought they made me look like a celebrity and whenever someone looked at me strangely id unironically think "theyre probably just weirded out by how beautiful i look."
i had always been afraid of death because i wanted to do something great that everyone in the art world admired. even now i try to fully prepare for having fans of my art despite having less than 10 followers on all of my accounts after half a year of posting. but the idea that you can do anything if you believe hard enough is, unfortunately, not always a healthy idea to have. it can delude you. you shouldn't believe that you can do anything, you should simply believe that you can be happy. it is still something i have to learn myself on the off chance that my art never goes anywhere at all. you can keep trying, but you've gotta accept what you get and just have fun in the process. don't focus anymore on the result.
