If someone liked "Requiem for a Dream", I say it is impossible not to like this music. They are masterpieces that simply put emotions directly in your heart.
Perhaps a rephrasing of your comment might be more suitable; however, the title "Requiem for a Dream" suggests "the death of a dream".I do not like such a state as would be the case as in repose the dead lay in wait The symbolic integrity is suggestive even further of a truly cataclysmic tragedy which in so far as this monstrosity of a picture is concerned is as much about the loss of a limb as would be the loss of a life. this picture is about killing and injuring humanity through drug addiction. Those drugs are not merely in this film hard drugs but are as well pharmaceutical as with the weight loss hysteria. "they are masterpieces that simply put emotions directly in your heart" That sounds more like a threat as would be like mainlining heroin. I say there is cause to truly discredit the film and even to hold such an account as "Requiem for a Dream' accountable.
0:00 - 1:22 "Ghosts Of a Future Lost" 1:23 - 4:19 "Meltdown" 4:19 - 8:07 "Lux Aeterna" All of these pieces are from Requiem for a Dream and were composed by Clint Mansell. You can find them on the original soundtrack.
61 people came to watch a performance from the movie without caring about the true musician. when they grow up they will learn what time and patience it takes to make beautiful music.
Requiem for a Dream is the most haunting film I've seen to this date. On top of that, it has the most powerful score of all time. Just listening to these songs sends shivers down your spine.
I'm so glad to have found this live performance. You're right, many know about the Requiem for the Two Towers but not this I guess...but for those of us who really love the music for itself, we know the original to our hearts. As for the actual movie...I guess because it was banned in many places, so not many got to seeing it? Pity.
i love rap, hip hop, salsa, merengue, electronic and house music but ive never enjoyed music like this... i love mozart and beethoven but this song is haunting! it scares me. clint mansell is amazing and so is kronos quartet.
My god, I never though these pieces, "Meltdown" especially, could be played live. I thought they were all mostly pieced together in the studio. Seeing these being created live is mindblowing!!
Omg one of the skating couples in the winter olympics just used this song for their performance! :D I knew I'd heard it before, so I came to youtube to check and I was totally right, lol!
I was absolutely amazed to discover that this music is actually played on strings by humans! When I saw Requiem for a Dream I thought for sure the music had to have all been done electronically!
Ah, you missed the point. I like electronic music as well and that's what I though it was. I'm amazed that these performers are able to create such sounds, even live, and with traditional instruments!
I don't know what some people are talking about. For any of you who own the Requiem For A Dream soundtrack, all three parts to it, you'll know that this whole thing is by Mansell. Everything you hear in this video is something from the soundtrack, save for the first minute or so which I don't recognize, is all from the soundtrack.
i cant believe i cried while listenin to. i love this, specially the meltdown, not just the extremly popular piece of luz aeterna (then used in TLOTR), is a trully show of the strong of the "modern" classical muzic.
The first one is the music from the credits in The Fountain, not a piece from Requiem for a Dream. Next one is the part when all of them were in "hell" in Requiem for a Dream, near in the movie ending. And the last one is Lux Aeterna from Requiem for a Dream. Thanx for the music!!!!
hey there, two towers version is from the second film in the lord of the rings trilogy. I fell in love with this film (requiem)and the music so noticed when a remix appeared on the LOTR trailer. That version has gone on to be well overused as backing music on television..bet it's on you tube somewhere! sorry for lengthy elaboration!
:05 - 1:23 - sad beginning. 1:24 - 4:19 - creepy music that went along with the climax of the movie. 4:20 - 8:07 - theme song of the movie. All together - genius.
deym! i have to thank carlos dengler for leading me into these geniuses! i love requiem for a dream and love the ost but i didn't kronos was the one who performed the brilliant soundtrack.. kudos!
The beginning song, which was "Ghosts of a Future Lost" I believe. What are the cellos notes that it continues to play? I know what the violins and viola plays but I can't figure out what the cello plays yet. Anyone have any idea? Thank you!
All of this is Mansell and from Requiem for a Dream the first song is Ghost of a Future Lost, then it goes to Meltdown at 1:24 and finally Lux Aeterna at 4:20.
this is actually medley of three different songs of the sound track they are all 3 in order its ghosts of future lost, meltdown, and lux aeterna(this is the one most commonly called requiem for a dream) they are tracks 30 31 and 32 on the soundtrack

"Lux Aeterna" gets me every damn time. It is so freaking beautiful and powerful. It's like a younger cousin of "O Fortuna".
0:00 - 1:22 "Ghosts Of a Future Lost"

4:19 - 8:07 "Lux Aeterna"

Thank you!
Ghost of Future Lost Meltdown Lux Aeterna Requiem for Dream
wow ~~ still can't believe there's only 250 views for this video .. i'd expect something like 2.5 million or something .. great piece !!

61 people came to watch a performance from the movie without caring about the true musician. when they grow up they will learn what time and patience it takes to make beautiful music.
4:20 onward will go down in time as one of the best musical pieces ever.
Requiem for a Dream is the most haunting film I've seen to this date. On top of that, it has the most powerful score of all time. Just listening to these songs sends shivers down your spine.
One of the most gripping, creative, incredible pieces ever to be written and performed. Fantastic!
There aren't words to describe music like this. It's like an expression of pure soul.
I'm so glad to have found this live performance. This music was in the movie, all of it. I would love to see the Kronos quartet live. Their music sends chills down my spine
If you ever have the opportunity, see them. Dont hesitate...just go and listen.
The music was in the movie and WAS the movie to a great degree. Creative genius = its composition,
and no hyperbole whatsoever in that evaluation.
My love of chamber music started with Kronos Quartet.. Thank You!!!!!
KQ and Samaritna Song are just about all I listen to these days.... Thanks for the great art guys.
Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous...
I love how it only takes 4 instrumentalists to make such sounds of epic proportions!

This group is one reason why I mainly listen to contemporary music.
it scares you... but at the same time you can't stop listening to it..
Breathtaking performance! Give this clip some time, the views should build!
I was absolutely amazed to discover that this music is actually played on strings by humans! When I saw Requiem for a Dream I thought for sure the music had to have all been done electronically!
i dont understand why you were amazed. cause electronic music can be great if done correctly and since you cant tell the difference just proves it.
Ah, you missed the point. I like electronic music as well and that's what I though it was. I'm amazed that these performers are able to create such sounds, even live, and with traditional instruments!
This group actually performed this in the soundtrack :)
