Thanks for sharing the background on your transition to your new role. It can be scary to move into a completely foreign role. Would be interesting to see like a day in the life of a UX researcher. The job hunt is a job in it of itself! 💯

@@kateismostlygoodwmoney Yeah, I found those videos super helpful in the earlier days of my career when I was exploring jobs I've never even heard of. Especially in tech, like UX designer, front end vs back end, full stack, etc.

ok this was a super informative video Kate. Thanks for sharing your experience. For context i'm not explicitly looking to get into tech but i do get curious sometimes. I don't know how having a MFA in visual arts works with tech. I digress, curiosity brought me here and your storytelling kept me here :)

Ahh you just made my whole entire day, thank you so much for taking the time to comment! 💗 I love that you're considering and staying open-minded to the possibilities out there. fwiw I think there's about a million things you could do with an MFA if you did ever decide you wanted to make a change! Folks with arts degrees are consistently some of the most creative, entrepreneurial, interesting people I meet and can be such great communicators, storytellers, problem-solvers, etc. Skills that are in such huge demand and it's kind of interesting, with the advent of AI, I think people fear we are going to keep automating things away (and we are to an extent, cause we're ridiculous like that lol) but I also think as we do, we actually end up craving humanity and authenticity more and more - and art is so essential to this. Now I digress! I'm so glad some of this was helpful 😊

As a Canadian, why do you have to worry about health insurance? I left Canada in 2006, first for the UK, then NYC. When I still lived in Canada, health care wasn't something that I ever thought about. Are things that bad in Canada now?

It's a great question! Our universal health care is still pretty decent but it really only covers the basics - prescription drugs, dental, vision, physical therapy, mental health - none of that is covered. I had a prescription drug that cost me $240 a month without insurance. I needed a physiotherapist weekly for a couple months. All of that got super expensive. But yea, I definitely stress way less overall about health care here than I did in the US.
