If you read his novelization of the movie, it's basically all of the deleted scenes from the movie: the Manson encounter between Cliff and him by the Twinkie truck outside of Sharon's house, Pussycat's first "kreepy krawl," a LOT more about Cliff (he's a bad, bad dude), a LOT more about Charlie Manson's music career, Brandy the dog's backstory, Jay Sebring's English butler (who Tim Roth played but was cut from the film), and a lot more Steve McQueen, who Rick Dalton is supposed to be the "poor man's Steve McQueen," which wasn't as explicitly spelled out in the movie. Of course, Tarantino's novelization of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is non-linear from the movie's chronological order. So don't go into it expecting the Manson murders to be fully fleshed out at the end-this book has a different scene for the ending, a much more wholesome scene that wasn't shown in the movie.
I love how he mentions writing in book form first and how that it ultimately ended up being a screenplay. That seems like an apparoach that might be really helpful
Good to hear he was working on Hollywood for 8 years. I've been writing my debut loosely autobiographical script for 4 years now. Tarantino thank you for the inspiration 🙏
Hateful 8 might be my favorite of his movies now. I do like them all, but something about H8 just hits the right spot for me. I was very disappointed with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, though.
I’ve seen OUATIH once and the thought is was a good movie but I’ve never been interested in watching it a second time. I felt the same way about Hateful 8 as it was good but just seemed like a Wild West version of Reservoir Dogs. By contrast, I’ve seen Kill Bill 1/2, Django, Pulp Fiction and Inglorious Basterds a million times .
Saw the movie some time back , had to google if this movie had some point , today too after watching tarantino speak about this , theres still no point , maybe he wanted to give life to stacy
I haven’t watched the movie in it’s entirety. But I have watched every clip I could find. I look forward to watching it. I did the same thing with the show Barry. I recommend this way to others.
@@chrismezza1940 haha, the little karate monkey girl has got to be the greatest episode ever. I was watching that and laughing my ass off when my kids came home and I had to turn it off. Them being curious wanted to know what I was laughing at. But it was hard to explain 🤣
@@darkhorse381 it isn’t a cash thing. And I’m telling you, its almost like reading the book then seeing the movie. With Barry, I just ran into a clip and I was intrigued. Next thing I knew I watched them all. So I decided to watch the series. And with this movie, I didn’t realize it existed. Same thing. I got intrigued and watched them all and can’t wait to rent it now. It probably isn’t ideal for some. I find it fun.
I liked this movie but I hear alot of people saying its their favorite Tarantino film and I just think thats insane. Django, Hateful 8, Pulp Fiction in my opinion are leagues better than this one.
Not gonna lie, if Tarantino didnt make the movie people would’ve said it was boring and pretentious. Im not saying its a bad movie because the performances are great. But calling OUATIH the “apex” of tarantino’s movies is bullshit. Its not even in the top 5 of things he’s made tbh.
The crescendo was great, large portion of the movie felt like a netflix special long overdrawn and just meandering. Hateful Eight was far more engaging.
@@DrSbaitsojr Check your critical thinking. Just because someone gives a negative take to movie, doesnt automatically mean they like "insert movie you think is bad". My favorite Tarantino film...
Same here and by far!
Me too! I think the ending is great because you are waiting just a different disliking horrible end in the whole movie..
For me second only to pulp fiction

Jackie Brown is the best film he’s done because he isn’t in it.

its better than Death Proof, Reservoir Dogs, both Kill Bills, jackie brown and The Hateful Eight
