I am really interested in starting a merchandise line, perhaps through Amazon. I have so much artwork in all my books that would be perfect for merchandise beyond journals (which I just started as well). I finally signed up for Amazon Associates, too. Thanks for the reminder on that!

You didn't used to be allowed to get an Amazon Associates commission on your own book, has that changed then. (I'm back learning, I was out dealing with more health issues) thanks for everything you do

I joined ALCS that collect secondary royalties on author’s behalf. There was a one off fee of £38, and free if you were a member of the writers union. I don’t know if U.S.A have a equivalent version. I’ve always found their payouts generous.
Hi Dale. I am self publishing 4 books hopefully by the end of the year. It’s hard to know what a service is worth. I looked at Canva after listening to you talk about creating book covers, and I’m lost in the weeds. I priced out what it would cost if I hired it out, and it was pretty expensive. I have to say parsing it out is hard. By the time I add up what I’ve paid out incrementally it would be easier and about the same price to pay one of those hybrid/aggregate company to handle it, but how do you find one that isn’t a scam?

But I had reader's tell me they can't find my books on the site. Sure enough, I put my name in and one of my books was on like page 30 of the results. The other was like page 50 something. I wrote AMZ and they said it was their "algorithmn" & they couldn't do anything about it. I searched the names of 30 something authors with similar ranking to me, and they ALL came up on the 1st page! Any tips on how to fix this? I'm not sure why I'm on AMZ if no one can find me! Thanks!
You’ve gotta sell more books. I highly recommend you not rely on the algorithm. Yes, you should search engine optimize your listing. Also, have about 6-12 peers review your book description and book cover. Your book might’ve been getting served up, but your ideal readers weren’t interested. Lastly, have those same peers look over your seven backend keywords and category choices. Ultimately though, you’ll need to start driving traffic directly to your product page. And hopefully buying. I highly recommend reading my Amazon Keywords for Books where I deep dive into the world of the Amazon algorithm. It depends largely on your niche. If you're a nonfiction author, check out Book Launchers. I personally know the founder and face of Book Launchers, Julie Broad, and can vouch for how incredible they are for their authors. They help on everything from ideation to publication to marketing and beyond. She has a TH-cam channel you can visit at th-cam.com/users/booklaunchers. They also have a website you can check out, but I recommend, check out her channel and you'll see all those details. If you're a fiction author, I'd recommend looking into a publicist. They come at a pretty penny, but can do all the marketing for you and all you have to do is show up. Make sure you don't commit anything financially you can't afford to lose. We can all agree marketing can be somewhat like gambling. Some stuff pays off, while some doesn't. Good luck!
