    I wish there were these resources around when I started playing. So many Stones' tunes I played incorrectly because alternate tuning never occurred to me.

      Saw Keith and the boys at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena California last Thursday night. What an awesome show! Any second I expected one to fall down dead, but they all rocked! The greatest rock n roll band of all time!

    Hi James, I know that this is an older lesson, but time does diminish just how good it is. Your ear, timing, rhythm, dexterity, and ease at all things guitar are certainly a marvel to me who falls into the category of “tries hard but has fun doing so”. Anyways, I want to thank you for another stellar lesson, and I hope you’re doing well! That is a beautiful guitar that you are so ably playing. If I had several guitars, I’d probably leave them in different tunings (out of laziness probably) - standard, open g, d, and e (which I newly discovered by tuning into this lesson). “Beggars Banquet” - a great album. The Stones were on fire in the late 60s and 70s. Be well!
    Ted

    Thanks for putting this out here- good to know I’m playing it correctly (often not the case). This is one of my very favorite acoustic tunes to play- and folks seem to enjoy it as well. Thanks again!

    You know I post so many videos but I'm a lousy teacher. I guess it's because I'm self-taught but I really appreciate guys who CAN teach and make it seem so easy-like you JJ-Thank You bro. Is TH-cam the greatest thing that has happened to music or what? What a spectacular tool it has become. You can go to that little wheel/gear type thing at the bottom right side of the player and adjust the speed to 0.5 and it slows the song down while keeping it in pitch. Once again James Thank You

There is one guy in particular that I have to acknowledge for all of his hard work and diligence and the amazing gift that he so freely gives of himself TO the musical community here on TH-cam and that man is @JamesJames

    Hey, Just came across your videos looking to learn all of Let It bleed. Great lessons! Please don't take down the other stuff....great resource. I definitely want to get to this gem later on when I can mess with an alternate tuning (one of my favorite Stones songs).
    BTW...never mind the A@#H#$ trolls on the internet. They are not worth any attention, what so ever. You are taking the time to help people learn something worthwhile....why do people spend that much time to knock that down. They are just sad, pathetic people; more to be pitied than hated.
    Keep up the good fight!

    Great lesson, if I tune my guitar to open d and a capo on the second fret is it the same fingering.
    A mate of mine said open e will put stress on the neck. Any truth to that. Thanks again.

    • @jamesjames9275
      @jamesjames9275  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ryan Garven Yes, the fingerings would be the same. I don't worry much about open E putting stress on the neck, as I always de-tune after I'm done. I wouldn't keep a guitar permanently tuned to any open tuning that's tuned up. But for a few minutes, it shouldn't hurt a guitar (unless the guitar is really old or it's a piece of junk).

    Great tutorial, I can play the notes right but the few tuning apps that tuned me to "open E" are off just a little, the high b strong doesn't sound right , the tone isn't there, can you recommend a way to tune to open E without having perfect pitch or an app? Haha, thanks

    • @jamesjames9275
      @jamesjames9275  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t have perfect pitch and I’ve never used a tuner. From the low E string, tune the A/D/G strings to how they’re fingered in an E chord. The other strings stay the same. You shouldn’t be touching the B string to tune to open E.

    • @jamesjames9275
      @jamesjames9275  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless your strings are fairly old, you shouldn't have much trouble with them snapping. But if that is a problem, the lighter, the better.

    • @wolfgangshmuck8047
      @wolfgangshmuck8047 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      James James u crack me up.
      and i thought i was funny.
      seriously thou i play a 7-string ( xtra string tuned to high A above the high E ) just wondering if u hav ever tried more than a 6 string guitar ?
      normal 12 does not count for all you jokers out there.

    • @jamesjames9275
      @jamesjames9275  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      tomsanone Hmm. What was the gauge of the high A string? It must have been like a human hair.

    • @tomsanone
      @tomsanone 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      James James to help ease the tension on the high A string
      i keep the 7-string tuned down a whole step ( D - G - C - F - A - D - G / low to high )
      so its really a high G string - the gauge is .007.
      still breaks about once every 2 weeks or so and i dont use a pick.

  • @backtoshallabal6662
    @backtoshallabal6662 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey PT. I have a question. I've noticed that in some of your videos when you play your guitar goes out of tune, and then then you tune it again. What could possibly be the problem? Cause this also happens to me.

    • @jamesjames9275
      @jamesjames9275  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Oliver Sanvictores A lot of things can cause it. If the strings are really old or really new, bending them can get them out of tune. Or bringing a guitar from a warm room to a cool room (or vice versa) can do it. Or there could be a problem with the tuners holding the tension. Could be a lot of things. Most of the time for me, it's just my obsession with constantly fiddling with the B and E strings. :)

    • @mgibby63mg
      @mgibby63mg 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +James James I'm obsessed with the B string. always fiddling with it. .all other strings stay in tune fine. I think I need to work on the nut ( slot ).

      thomas sclafani Yeah. Have you heard the new album ? Noel proves again he's capable of writing great songs on his own. Besides, I would really like to hear from James the song 'Masterplan'. I don't know why it isn't so popular like Wonderwall, but it's so amazing. It's just after 'Champagne Supernova', in my opinion. A great guitar playing in that one.

    • @thomass.5269
      @thomass.5269 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea that's I think it's some of the best stuff he's done in years. And oh yea that's a great tune, and it wasn't as popular because Noel chose it to be a B side for the single so it didn't get the same kind of radio play and now he says he thinks he should have made it an A side
