    A very insightful wrap up of your eventful experience in Nairobi and Kenya 👍
    Could you speak next on business and enterprise aspects that locals or foreigners can cash in.
    As a foreigner looking from outside-in,you can see low hanging fruits ready for pick up by the business minded.
    Or some novelty business idea rampant in the West that can catch up quickly here in Kenya..after all, Kenyans are quick learners,adaptors and born-hustlers, no idea too alien!

    Thank you for the great content and great information about living in Kenya as an expat. I plan on visiting there during March or April to determine whether I'd like to live there. One important thing you mentioned in your video was the need for health insurance while living there. Do you mind if I ask you whether you use travel medical insurance? Or, were you able to purchase health insurance there as a resident? Also, do you recommend any healthcare insurance companies? I'm almost 50 years old, and health insurance and the cost of health care is a major concern for me. Thank you so much for your great videos. I’m tired of living to work in the United States and want to move to Kenya. I can make on average 1k usd from my online business but as I’m not a resident of Kenya I’d have to leave every 3 months if I can’t get a visa extension. My plan is to take the bus to Ethiopia and renter on a new visa. How realistic is it to live on this budget and have to leave an come back by bus? Am I crazy?

    • @ainoluo
      @ainoluo  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! I have a video about my budget and i managed to live with below 1000 USD in Nairobi - the costs on site and my living standards have went up since then but you can see what my lifestyle with that budget was. Of course there are people who live with much less but in that case you wouldn’t have the typical expat standard of living and would need to look accommodation from more “local” neighbourhoods.
      I hate the driving culture here so I’m not comfortable with bus travel - what i would advise is to not take buses at night. Drivers do not take breaks, visibility can be bad and they might be drunk.
      One idea though - you could look into the coastal area, might be more affordable.

      That’s very individual to your background, there’s plenty of different rules and options depending on one’s passport, marital status, work and business, family ties, etc. Personally I looked for a job that handled work permits. People over 35 with certain income may qualify for a retirement visa. Some people stay long term with tourist visas and extensions, and some stay as dependants to the people they are married to.

      The irony is that even with the safety issue, hundreds of foreigners still move to live in Kenya which according to me should inform you that safety is more of a perception issue and having said that at least from the high influx of foreigners into Kenya in itself goes to explain that the sense of lack of safety can sometimes be exaggerated. Cardinal rule is that one should always exercise common sense precautions when visiting areas that have very low income dwellers like the slums or ghettos in Nairobi or completely stay away from them unless they have a local with. On the other hand, if your lifestyle is that of middle, upper middle class or even high end lifestyle, you can be guaranteed of living a very good and safe life in Kenya.

    • @ainoluo
      @ainoluo  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@douglaswamburu708 Me and the commenter have both lived in Finland and China where we hardly ever had any safety issues, and there is a very clear difference when living in Nairobi. I guess you can call it a perception issue in the sense that our viewpoint is the one I mentioned, but it doesn’t make it less real. As I mentioned, friends of mine who live a more secluded life do not experience the issues I do to the same extent, so yes, it’s possible to life a good and safe life there even if you stand out. I’m very explorative, independent and sociable by nature and I’ve had to limit that significantly in Nairobi. I used the example of middle class teenage boys having to race their bikes within the compound instead of independently going to the streets and a bike park - I explored every forest and street of Helsinki, Wuhan and Beijing when I was younger.
