Taylor's president being forgotten is actually kind of suprising. A strong personality, he was a slave owner but also increasingly willing to curb it's spread later in life, many pinned their hopes of preserving the Union on him when he was elected. He pushed for a compromise in 1850, and his death is often seen as the end of any real hope of compromise on the slavery issue, making secession and civil war inevitable. I've always seen him as one of the more melancholic what ifs, if he had lived another 6 years, could the civil war have been put off for another generation? And would this have allowed a peaceful resolution (slavery seemed to be beginning to die out) or would it make things worse? (new slave states in the south west, and new weapons making for more carnage)

Busted. I also like to throw the 9 on top of that chord when I can. I find that the IVmaj7 actually occurs in nature a lot; for instance when the strummer goes deceptive and the harmony singers are just thirding out.
The delay was pretty tough, to be honest. When I was singing the shantyman parts I just had to count the beats, trying not to get thrown off by the crew delay. It worked. When the classes were singing the shantyman lines, I just tried to siding the refrains quietly and early to make up for the delay. I think it worked.
It sounds like bluster, but the truth is that I sing the way I do because of the 25 years I've spent singing in Irish pubs while consuming copious amounts of Guinness and whiskey. My pre-pub voice was good enough, but very very different.
I would love to get into a shanty chorus in a Texas born American but my singing voice don't have the local accents told I have a more Scottish or Irish brough to my singing voice.
