- In a field of 2020 Democratic presidential candidates with no shortage of money, Sen. Kamala Harris and her husband stand out.
The California Democrat and her spouse, lawyer Douglas Emhoff, reported about $1.9 million in adjusted gross income for last year, according to tax returns released earlier this year. Their 2018 haul more than doubles the next-highest earning candidate in the 2020 primary field, out of those who have released returns. Former Vice President Joe Biden, who reportedly has made millions since leaving office in 2017, has not yet released his returns.
Politicians often rack up huge incomes during and after their time in office. Harris’ tax returns show an official whose financial success jumped along with her influence on the national stage - and put her among the top earners in a crowded field trying to prove its chops on working-class issues.
Like Sanders and some other rivals, Harris finds herself in the awkward position of a high-income candidate campaigning on helping the low-income Americans they say the economic system has abused.

Having worked at a nonprofit startup with a “visionary” CEO Founder with the nonprofit version of fame seen in tech leaders, a lot of wealthy donors placed huge orders of books to give out to their employees. Wouldn’t be surprised if similar things happen for politician books.

Sami Horner She is not taking any money from any PACs, any banks or any big money corporations. She’s getting all her campaign money from her supporters. The fact that she’s fighting for the lower and middle-class & would therefore take a tax hit herself shows that she really is fighting for those who have much less than she does. What difference does it make if she is wealthy? She’s worked her ass off for years and yes, she married a wealthy man - is there a law against that? You’re saying because she married a wealthy man that she’s some sort a prostitute? Not you personally, just many of these comments and the replies to other people’s comments. This is very typical of any woman who marries a man who is wealthy - they are automatically considered some sort of golddiggers or prostitutes. The most well known example is the case of Daniel Larsen, who was serving a life sentence under California’s Three Strikes Law. However, a court later found that Larsen was innocent and ordered his release. Also she threatened, and went through with, sending impoverished single mothers, working full time, to prison for not being able to keep their kids in school. All while laughing to the bank (literally).

Political parties have become self-serving corporations that just eat up so much resources in the tens of trillions collectively over decades and produce very little of value or return on investment for its "customers" aka voters. Most laws and "solutions" offered once candidates are elected are just bandaids that see us revisiting the same issues over and over again. It is especially jarring thing given how much the U.S. likes to lecture other nations about how Democracy should work and how progressive we are, yet we are behind other western countries in education, infrastructure health, environmental issues and clean energy, etc.

I have seen way too much hypocrisy and heard way to little actual solutions and policies. Harris is talking about being bussed to a school. Here is what I remember about being bussed away from a school. When I entered the six grade it was the same year bussing began. I was bussed to a school in another city.
I was at the bus stop when the sun was just coming up and when I got home it was almost dark. I was bussed from a middle class neighborhood over an hour away on a straight drive with out any stops. The school was across the street from apartments that looked like New Jack City. Drug dealers were always standing on the corner.
The sad thing was I could have walked to a school that my brother had gone too only a few years prior. The school I went too was a lot different than the school I could have walked to. The one thing I remember was having to fight my way out of the bathroom, daily! I would't have minded fighting but it was never a one on one fight, never!
One thing I learned about the teachers is once you got a reputation for fighting, it was always your fault. They didn't care if the other person started it or not. In their mind, I was the trouble maker. I only stood up for myself and as I was raised, I took nothing from no one.
When my mother had and had seen enough, she took me out of school and we moved a couple hours away to the country. I remember one of my teachers telling me he was glad I was getting out of there, he said, "you are a smart kid and he was sure I would do fine where ever we moved too." He was right. I never had to fight my way out of the bathroom again. I would like to be able to say, I never got into a fight again after the move but that would be a lie. The first fight I got into was three years later and was with a friend, Bill. We fought over a girl. Imagine that, two 9th grade boys fighting over a girl. Needless to say I was a little rusty but I got the girl! We dated for three years and she was my first love. Bill and I, are still friends.

Kamala being half East Indian, is great at negotiating, digging up deals, uncovering opportunities, and finding bargains anywhere in the union. It's a little disconcerting to think that $1.5 million a year is not really an unheard of income in this day and age of billionaires. $1.5 million a year just barely gets you into the top 1% of earners in the USA.
