@@marleymarsss yeah true Although I liked a few things they did that were different , some things just were so off that I'm genuinely confused as to why they put them in lmao
I just want to point out how much I loved Gordon's acting when talking to Mayor Yukari in this episode. People like to point out the lines of his that are awkward and ignore the good moments. I love Suki's acting too. The way both she and Sokka are awkward af and have NO IDEA how to flirt was hilarious and she's so freakin CUTE! But what I also liked was the part where she's correcting Sokka that she's a KYOSHI warrior. It feels just like how intense and serious she got in the Ember Island Players episode right before she tells Sokka "I can get you back stage!" I hope they do 3 seasons and include Ember Island Players.
I don't really like them replacing Roku with Kyoshi. The leader being changed makes sense seeing what the Kyoshi Warriors are, but Roku was Aangs mentor cause the need for Aang to step up and end the war stemmed from Roku's failure to end it before it started. Zhaos casting and role is... strange. But this episode felt a bit better than the first one.
Zhao’s character is strange in terms of motive. It only works at all because Jun Tao (cough) I mean Ken Leung is such a talented, experienced actor. The last two episodes really muddy up his motivations and plans, too convoluted and no set up for it and it takes the threat out of him. The alliance between him and Azula also kinda sucks, I can tell they wanted like a Littlefinger GoT scheming vibe but you never see them interact or plan together so it’s not a strong dynamic and it takes away some agency from Zhao.
Just found you ladies since I was looking for another reaction channel covering ATLA. Really enjoying your chemistry together and how you breakdown the story and just say how you feel about it rather than everything is awesome or horrible.
Out of the eight episodes of this first season, this episode was my favorite. If for no other reason, then Suki and Kyoshi. The actresses that portray them did a very excellent job.
The Kyoshi books are AMAZING you get to know all about Kyoshi, but also about the avatars before her and how she goes from an abandoned child to one of the strongest avatars. There was quite a bit of addition from the novel (The Rise of Kyoshi by F.C. Yee). It explains why she is the way she is. She had to deal with the mistakes of her parents and previous avatars. She got shafted from every direction. So there really was some addition from the novels.
I think the reason they did not bring up the comet situation is that there is a factor in live-action series where the actors grow old and to have a time frame of the comet this early would be hard for them since in the original series, they only have until summer's end before the comet arrives. And seeing Gordon now, he's a bit older since their shooting of this part.
@@curtiszyr“They never had that” lol then go watch the animation as A WHOLE till season 3😐 It’s called a “build up” dude. Plus, my comment was clearly a joke as well
Im glad u guys are still enjoying urselves with the show. Its been getting some backlash cus its not as good nor does it evn comes close to the original. But I personally still enjoyed it. Yes, there were parts tht I thought were out of place and some things they left out tht were integral to each of the Avatar gang's character development. But ultimately, I still felt tht the heart of the show was present in the live action.
The whole internet’s goin crazy about Maria Zhang as Suki! 😂😂 I can’t go on social media without seeing someone talking about how beautiful she is. 🤣🤣 That’s all good! 👍🏻 But, her performance as Suki was amazing! She’s strong and badass, beautiful yet vulnerable. Hell, she reminds me of Eowyn from Lord Of The Rings. So, that’s a major win in my book. Perfect! Absolutely perfect. 👌🏻
Though it's a big change I think it works that Aang met Kyoshi this early. Meeting her on an island that's specifically dedicated to her reign makes sense (btw in the original series the gang met the Kyoshi warriors before going to Omashu). Imo the episode offers a great juxtaposition between who Aang is now and what he views to be an Avatar. He's this goofy, innocent, ignorant young airbender while Kyoshi is an almost militaristic, jaded yet wise, god-like figure from legends. There's a clear and deliberate disconnect. A peaceful monk versus a battle-hardened warrior: they're each others natural opposites, both elementally and in personality. I enjoy how fierce, forceful and uncompromising she acted because it's everything Aang is not. It could also make for a good reason why he'd want to connect with a different Avatar (Roku) - somone who is more gentle and willing to relate to the struggles of an early Avatar-in-training.
Just gonna say this in one word, "BAD ASS!" Okay, two words. She absolutely personified Avatar Kyoshi, and perfectly! She's literally BAD ASS. Episode 2 seriously did it for me. Not too many people even noticed that, through Avatar Kyoshi, we literally got an EPIC taste of all the elemental bending powers that Aang will possess, the day he becomes the true Avatar he was destined to come. No other Avatar that Aang meets, from Books 1-4, has ever demonstrated such power.
DISCLAIMER: Dont be too scared about the changes they made in episode 3! It slowly starts to make sense why they did what they did. Especially when you know the characters' motives & story arcs in the show; SO some remixes/combinations of some episodes isnt random but fitting!🔥 Some were only 20 something minute episodes Avatar and season 1 had many more filler episodes than other seasons. So I think they got the BEST PARTS from both the filler, *and* the main story to satisfy both fans AND new-watchers💯
I think what they did with Zhao here is better cause in season 1 he honestly just seemed like a GENERIC, ANGRY, 1 DIMENTIONAL VILLAIN😂 I re-watched it and he was acc so boring & there were many plot holes surrounding him. He was also just too obvious. I think this depiction of Zhao is a more cunning, self-serving, power hungry, and ambitious version that's more than a typical "bad guy". Dw the show gradually gets better and you'll get used to this new (but similar) tone. I sure did!
Still a fair share of plot holes for him at the finale though.but he is more compelling as a pure villain, the more nefarious type than the boss type like Ozai.
Just one (difficult to implement) suggestion for Sam: I get it's difficult to not compare it to the OG show in general, but I would recommend not saying "X is SUPPOSED to happen here" or "Y is SUPPOSED to happen before Z". Nothing in this show is "supposed to" be anything, other than the general premise. Katara isn't "supposed to" get the waterbending scroll from the pirates, for example...she did in the animated series. Just a suggestion to help condition your brain to avoid disliking plot points, specifically because they don't exactly follow the OG, instead of judging them on their own merits.
Yeah it’s kinda crazy 😂😂😂 it’s almost every scene. You can tell she’s kinda critiquing it constantly lol but it’s okay some ppl can’t separate ATLA from this
I’m sure there are reactors out there who have never seen the original series that you guys would enjoy more? I’m also having fun reminiscing the original series. Just because I say something happened differently doesn’t mean I don’t like the change. Some changes I like, some I don’t. That’s my honest reaction. I also care a lot about proper characterizations. -Sam
Why does everyone keep saying Kyoshi channeled herself through Aang. Thats not true. After her fight scene Saka asked Aang will they be seeing that scary lady again. Aang replied that Avatars can only appear(take his place physically) if he is at their shrine. ----So if Saka and the others saw Kyoshi then that means she was their physically and replaced Aang.
😍Dani🥰Soo and I got put out of my dorm room by my roommate. A pillow fight broke out and lil Steve was accidentally hit like sixteen times.😂He snatched the covers off of his head folk said “Are y’all twenty or twelve?”😅 I’ll buy him a sausage egg and cheese sandwich and home fries, and he’ll forgive us. It is early though. On King David.
I think in this series everyone thinks that Aang abandoned his responsibility or he ran away is because Aang was supposed to be the Avatar, protecting the people, they expected during the attack to the Air Nomads but they never knew how Aang was feeling when he found out he was the Avatar. My theory can be justified with Gyatsu-Aang and Appa-Aang's conversation on Ep1.
OMG you need to read the kyoshi books, theres a character stronger then anyone. His name is yun and he single handedly deafeated his generations team avatar, he only lost to kyoshi bc of a cheao trick she pulled and he once said "earth is my element, i only let people borrow it sometimes"
I think the big difference is they added tension to the characters by giving them that awkward teen stage. She was still confident in her capabilities and words but she didnt know how to express her feelings so imo I think they portrayed it really well and more accurate
This show is lucky to benefit that it’s the 2nd live adaptation. M night so thoroughly scarred us that we can enjoy this more. If this was the 1st attempt we would have had way less patience and understanding, so for that--(ugh can’t believe I’m gonna say it)-thanks M Night Shyamalan 🥲

They did a good job making me feel awkward watching them! 🤣 -Sam
The Kyoshi Warriors costumes, particularly Suki's. Was so very well done. They look so cool and badass.
the scene where avatar Kyoshi channeled herself to Aangs is similar to the animated version , the difference is , it was Avatar Roku who did that
Although I liked that they kept the rule of only being able to do that at a shrine
