Not sure if it was ever mentioned, but the reason it was censored, was specifically due to Ali going a bit more orthodox Muslim. So, he had all his old stuff censored.
The reason the expletives are cut is because after the death of his mother, he embarrassed his religion a lot more and as a result ask for rhymesayers to cut any references to God or any swearing out of his old tracks. You might hear him say hell or damn, but that's about it.
Awesome that you covered this track, it may be the only song I’ve heard by Brother Ali solo-wise, but I’ve heard him as a feature on many other songs over the years. I love the tone of his voice when he sings; reminds me a lot of Everlast from House of Pain in his later years. What’s interesting is, I just thought of this; my friend growing up may have been albino. I just figured he just had really light-blond hair cuz I didn’t know about that condition when I was a kid and have always been pretty pale myself. The guy was a legit genius, like 4 grades mentally above the one he was in. I wonder what he’s up to today. Anyway, if you wanna react to a song with similar themes, check out “Typical American” by the HIGHLY underrated hip-hop group The Goats. Although some references are outdated in today’s politics, the messages are still strong. Also ya gotta get Peanut to listen to a track from Run the Jewels’ remix album “Meow the Jewels”, lmao.
I can definitely understand that belief, but I think there are some Northern European countries that are better than the US in almost every way. I wish America would improve in some very important ways -- such as healthcare, wages, property ownership, racism, etc. It has a lot of work to do.
@patreilly7951 our constitution, our freedom to challenge tyranny, our average life expectancy, our safety, our basic human needs scores, even our education system ranks amongst the highest in the world. Sure, we may not be top of the list in these categories but we're near or at the top in all of them. So combined, america is the greatest country in the world
ali is so old school its not even funny.. dude speaks from his soul and has the dopiest production behind it.. aka ant.. many others (i dont wanna exclude any) and ali himself :)

Greetings from Oz where we also have selective blindness/ hearing when it comes to our murderous history. Good stuff, brother.

Oh, wow. Very interesting, thanks! He's coming to Seattle in March, so I may get to see him!

The name of the song and the spoken intro references Nina Simone’s “Mississippi Goddamn” written during the 60s
Cool! I never would have found that!

America has its flaws but it is, in fact, the best country in the world.
I can definitely understand that belief, but I think there are some Northern European countries that are better than the US in almost every way. I wish America would improve in some very important ways -- such as healthcare, wages, property ownership, racism, etc. It has a lot of work to do.
On what do you base this claim? By what metric is the US the best country?

@@egone61 there are many countries that beat us on all of those metrics
Are you sure ? Take care of you, don’t get sick 😬😬 the best country of the world ? Arm your people so… pretentious country sadly…
This was obviously inspired by Nina Simone’s Mississippi Goddam.
I'm not as familiar with her music as I should be. Thanks for letting me know!
