Great video yet AGAIN!! You are so informative to those of us who watch you. I love the relationship between you and Tom. He’s the calm one and keeps you leveled out. My husband and I are the same way - I’m the hyper one and he’s the calm one. THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT VIDEOS!!!!
Love that you're speaking out about this and sharing your thoughts, even as one of the top category sellers who gets invited to events etc 🫶 In the UK they've allowed private sellers 0 fees on pre-loved clothing whilst sellers still pay - so sellers are just moving to private - AND, then they get invited to change to a seller and have a free storefront until the end of the year as reward 🤯
I’ve seen in UK facebook groups people are very unhappy about the amount of business sellers who now have opened or switched to private stores to avoid the fees. I suspect that’s going to cause eBay grief as now they’ll have to spend hours and money on additional staff who need to spend time trying to monitor that problem.
Love watching your videos and seeing what you and Thom are up to! Always some great ideas or tips for Ebay and helps get me motivated! I was literally boxing up a whole set of Old West Time Life books when you mentioned you just sold one!😂 Best of Luck and keep up the great work!!
Yes agree. And also promote some of the smaller niches instead of the same big ones over and over. Media never gets talked about with eBay because its smaller then other niches like clothing or home and garden.
I've been selling on eBay for 25 years with 100% positive feedback. eBay's fees have become outrageous which is certainly one reason why people are leaving the platform in droves.
Time saver tip Mel: you can sort and filter your pick and pack when pulling orders to sort sku next to each other. Grab your trolley and go to each item next to each other.

Sellers have reached their tolerance with extra eBay fees. The quarterly reports (US) show that “advertising” has plateaued, and as sellers continue to leave, which is also well-documented, the advertising revenue will inevitably decline. eBay needs to focus on customer acquisition, which is what they should’ve been doing all along. I’m afraid only a new regime will see the light. This current group is all about advertising, and they will push this cause until they earn their golden parachutes.
Hey Mel, I noticed you always use padded bags. Ever have issues with books being dented? I’ve only used boxes for bundles so far, paranoid about dents. Padded mailers look so much quicker to pack though. Great vids. Cheers
I never have anyone tell me there is problems with shipping. I’ve sent over 20k orders like this and my feedback all says well packed and good shipping. I’ve also sent parcels to myself to see how it arrives

That look on Thom's face ... priceless. He needed a Mel in his life! Great mixed content Mel. I agree with others.. throw that USB Mouse as far away as possible!

@@backfromburnout I charge my apple mouse overnight with a powerboard that has USB ports incorporated into it and a $5 USB-C adaptor from Kmart to attach the cable.

Those stickers are great, but there will be a problem when you finish the first roll, because the second roll have the same numbers. So for example if you sell SKU no. 0001 and 0002 etc which will go with the books and not be available from your bin, how will you remember which numbers you have used or not?
Yes but it’s highly unlikely I will double up on the same shelves by the time that comes around. 1000 is a lot of bundles and the earlier ones will be selling and moving out the door.
hey mel. i print my international orders using the label printer. I press cmd+shift+4 on my mac, trace out the international label which saves an image copy to the computer, then I open it and just print it on a normal label, making sure I select 'fit to page' or whatever. The label is small but it still works.
Great video Mel. Re the cash grab, whatever you do, don't take up the promotions by click. I only have 300 items, within 4 days I had £50.00 fee's yet now sales. A real cashgrab. Do you have bulk mail drop off centers in Australia? We can drop lots of packages at a bulk mail facility to help out the local post office. This is the spot all the mail for the larger area comes in. They have more machinery and staff to handle all the packages.

Love your you tube! my husband and i live in the US and building an E Bay Barn. we are going to live upstairs and have our Ebay "warehouse" I like your set up. What is the measurements of your warehouse and where did you get your shipping station. Thank you
I think its about 5.5 meters x 11 meters in size but not sure how that converts to US. My shipping station is a bench with a shelf behind it that is use to hold the mailers and both are from Bunnings in Australia
So you can't globally deselect the keywords (top left check box), then select the half dozen or so you want? Sounds crazy when you have to start bidding for keywords.
Did you just say 30 for a time life old west book? The complete 54 volume set sells for like $150 on eBay US. We need to fill up a whole container of them and send them to Australia.
@@valleystreasurehunter We have less competition here as Amazon isn't as big in Australia and we don't have big media buyers like you do with World of Books or Music Magpie etc
promoted listings arent worth it. I find none of the promoted methods that eBay and Amazon are trying to sell you aren't worth it. It's just a way to get more revenue from the sellers instead of buyers. You're better served doing your own marketing.
I agree totally. I have never taken up any of their advertising offers & I do alright minister. I haven't got that sort of inventory, nor would I want to. Just list a lot more selectively.
We could but we like the break in the day it gives. We like to go get a coffee, catch up with each other and Thom likes to stop in at the local op shop daily after dropping h the post. Thom also sources a lot online so he has incoming mail daily to collect from the PO Box and has returns coming in to collect.
I'm only doing coupons, paying for other campaigns I just can't afford!!! Could you please mention the microphone you use. It sounds very clear and nice 👍
It’s hard to use as the shelves are narrow and when the books slightly stick off the edges it gets caught. When I move warehouse I’ll make my new aisles wider to accommodate a trolley
Hey Mel, this may sound kind of picky but wouldn't it be better to put a trash back in your trash cans so that you don't have to lift that entire can to the dumpster? All you would have to do is tie up the bag in the can and lift it out and throw it in the dumpster. Just trying to think of ways to help you be for efficient!
I could but it just adds more plastic to landfill. Because I don’t have any food scraps or anything the bins don’t get dirty as such. I just had a busy week prior and was caught up. I don’t normally leave them that long overflowing. I just had other priorities the couple weeks before as I was under the pump doing a lot of photography and other tasks.
I stopped selling on eBay a year ago and I don't miss it one bit, and it's done wonders for my mental health. I refuse to give any more $$ over to their greedy policies. Good on you for persisting but it's not for me.
@@ReapingTheHarvest I don't do any significant business online. I do as much local independent as possible. I'm through supporting any corporation I can avoid supporting
Another cool vid! Totally agree with the ebay promotion offers. If it was covered by ebay, fair enuf, but it isn't. Seems like a very odd campaign to me. Maybe they've caught out a few people and made some extra cash???? That's the sort of offer it feels like - a bit of a scam. Maybe I don't understand it properly, but that what it feels like to me.
It’s like paying to advertise our stores on the platform we already pay for. Feels like eBay profits are down and it’s a cash grab to get sellers to pay more
Of course it's a cash grab! For us media sellers, these promotions generally are pointless. I believe these are more useful for items in demand such as collectibles, etc. It would push the listing up a little though, but for the hard to find CDs that I sell, if a person wants it, they'll find it. My listing is priced in the lower third of the market based on condition and I run sales constantly. Will they pick mine? Maybe, maybe not! The CDs I have listed will eventually sell. I know my items, generally speaking are long term and I'm fine with that and keeping a little more money.
Media can have a longer sell thru rate and we often require higher volume stores. We do have a lot of competition on saturated items and compete on price a lot and generally need higher volume stores which can then require larger storage spaces. I do find without promoted listings my store sales suffer and it is because a lot of the items are saturated mass market books and we need to have our listings shown as close to the top as possible.
@@backfromburnout Yeah, I do the regular promoted on all my listings to give them at least some exposure and am always running some sort of sale. The common stuff is pretty saturated and usually aren't worth much individually to list, so I group them in lots by artist or genre. With me wanting to eventually do this full time, I know I need a lot of listings. I'm shooting for about 7000 to start and will increase from there.
I just did the same. With the price on a speed champion Lego set I dropped the price to $20 but forgot to chandge it back to $28 $30 ish 😅 some one replyed thinking thay geting a Bargen but no I only had it for that price for 2 days sale but chandged it back .as I got got to .but no one had replyed in weeks .oh well 😊
I am certainly in the minority I do not promote or buy ads, but make daily sales. That being said this is just supplemental income as we are retired. Totally agree eBay profits are down so they want more money from sellers versus attracting more buyers!
Love the content of this video, agree 100% . avid reader and would love to look through your store and purchase some books, but could not find the link, can you help me . I live in USA
Its seems like eBay decided to take more from the sellers after the pandemic either because sales are lower or they can't bring in new buyers to raise revenue. I do promoted listings standard at 3% and that's it, I'm happy to give eBay 15% but I'm not going to fill my time with coupons and all the other stuff they want sellers todo. I tired the promoted listing advanced got a lot of clicks but not a lot of conversion was too difficult and expensive to manage I decided I wouldn't play eBays game and I'll live with the concequences.
I do get more sales when I use promoted listings so I account for those but it’s everything on top of the promoted listings and the regular fees that keeps adding up.
@@mikemarkuson I only sell on eBay, Amazon isn't as big here in Australia and my time is better spent focusing just on eBay at this stage. All my books are in this warehouse but I am moving to a bigger one soon so stay tuned for those videos when it happens!

36:23 how do you make the wrapping look so easy!!😂 i keep dropping books 🤦♀️
I’ve done it 1000 times lol
Maybe 10,000 lol
@@backfromburnout lol! I'm sure it would 10000 by now at least! I have one full shelf now of just books, branching out from dvds 😬 bit of a learning curve ❤ thanks for your vids!!!
Thanks Mel 😊 It Does Seem Like EBay Just Takes Takes Takes From Resellers 🙈 Also Strange How GSP Is Not Available In Australia
No GSP options for us. They seem to be taking more lately.
I never do the eBay suggested ad rate... it's ludicrous
Sometimes it's high. We saw books the other day with recommended rates of over 12% which is higher then normal
@@backfromburnout ya, that's crazy...their pushing for 25% of sales at that point
Seems the same as paying Google for targeted ads. I used to advertise on Google for specific stock that I had the most of (often overstocks)
Yes. Similar. But we have to pay to advertise our store on the eBay website that we already pay for lol
So you can't globally deselect the keywords (top left check box), then select the half dozen or so you want? Sounds crazy when you have to start bidding for keywords.
Is that a GPS on Thom's left? Great information as always.
It’s an old GPS but he uses the one on his phone.
Did you just say 30 for a time life old west book? The complete 54 volume set sells for like $150 on eBay US. We need to fill up a whole container of them and send them to Australia.
Yes!!! Send them my way! I generally get $25-$30 per book on those ones.
The Aus book prices seem crazy high compared to here in the UK
@@valleystreasurehunter We have less competition here as Amazon isn't as big in Australia and we don't have big media buyers like you do with World of Books or Music Magpie etc
promoted listings arent worth it. I find none of the promoted methods that eBay and Amazon are trying to sell you aren't worth it. It's just a way to get more revenue from the sellers instead of buyers. You're better served doing your own marketing.
I agree totally. I have never taken up any of their advertising offers & I do alright minister. I haven't got that sort of inventory, nor would I want to. Just list a lot more selectively.
Never ends for sure. Now I need a nap watching you😊❤
I never do any add on stuff because its all BS I just list appropriate pricing compared to others. Im not falling for their BS
Very good. There is a lot of things they want us to pay extra for now.
Lol... it's so much fun to annoy our men 😂 I love it!
Lol😄
I'm sure this will be a daft question but with the amount you and Thom sell can't you get the postal service to come to you and collect your parcels?
We could but we like the break in the day it gives. We like to go get a coffee, catch up with each other and Thom likes to stop in at the local op shop daily after dropping h the post. Thom also sources a lot online so he has incoming mail daily to collect from the PO Box and has returns coming in to collect.
I guessed there would be a good reason. :)
I'm only doing coupons, paying for other campaigns I just can't afford!!! Could you please mention the microphone you use. It sounds very clear and nice 👍
Thank you. I’m currently using the DJi2 wireless microphone that attaches to my phone. The
Microphone is under my jumper so you can’t see it.
@@backfromburnout thanks 😊
i just want ebay to show the best match item to customers. i want this as a customer too. i hate all the silly extra charges and offers.
Yes. Best match rather than highest promoted rate.
When will it stop? Never, it used to be 5% fees
Where’s your little trolley ? It would make it so much easier to pick 😊
I agree i gave it a small im not gonna do it as ebay take so much in fees already
Oh I had to stop at 12:46 - good so far and it’s a hot summer here
Getting s little warmer here in the day now. Not as icy cold as it was a couple weeks ago.
@@backfromburnout found it on my work computer - now at 17:23
Mel you actually do have a real Winter Season in the land downunder?
Depends on part of Australia you live
I quit dealing with that scumbag company 15 years ago.
Who do you prefer?
Unfortunately Mel, it doesn't stop anytime soon as this is eBay's strategy. They've said it loud and clear in the earnings calls.
ebay copying google ad words... bids get higher on popular word types
Yep, the bidding wars begin
Great video!! ❤
Thank you
Love the content of this video, agree 100% . avid reader and would love to look through your store and purchase some books, but could not find the link, can you help me .
Its all about EBAY and its shareholders....all they care about is PROFIT into their pockets NOT yours.
Hey Mel, How many books do you have?
It’s hard to know. I have over 6k listings but I have many in bundles so the quantity varies
@@backfromburnout wow! Over 6k is impressive! Are they all on ebay or Amazon as well? Any at Amazon warehouses FBA?
WHAT is your ebay store?
@@mikemarkuson I only sell on eBay, Amazon isn't as big here in Australia and my time is better spent focusing just on eBay at this stage. All my books are in this warehouse but I am moving to a bigger one soon so stay tuned for those videos when it happens!
@@backfromburnout - How can we find your store on ebay?
I looked at that promoted per coupon... holy poo... that was a mess !!!
More fees and costs for less visibility.
All these 5, 10 or 20% discounts on different promotions plus daily budgets for clicks on offsite ads and banners sure add up.
Mel, you should try Act lozenges for dry mouth. They're great.
Thank you I’ll look for them!
Hi Mel - I can’t believe people offer such low prices in their offers. I feel like you have a price for a reason and that’s the price. That would drive me nuts to have to counter offer all the time. To me, the price is the price!
I really need to get started with selling my lifetime hoard of books (to save my poor kids and grandkids doing it when I’m gone - a bit like the Swedish Death Cleanse!!) but I have just had another foot op which has set me back to just watching You Tube videos, which I love, but seeing all the offers come in and then watching you have to respond turns me off reselling!! A bit like having to deal with annoying parents as a teacher!! There’s always bad bits of any job I guess and that would be mine!! [What’s your bad bit of reselling?]
Thanks again for showing us the real side of reselling; it’s great to see you back Mel and see the books go out - from Jen the Bibliophile xx 🌷🙌🏾🌻📚📖
It's up to you if you let people send offers. I don't have it turned on in my store as it would drive me nuts lol.
