My thoughts exactly, I think all teachers should be tested for parental instincts. It would definitely make the classroom safer, more welcoming, and more caring environment overall. Some teachers act like their job is an inconvenience or something.

She really really loves those kids. She held his face like he was her own baby. The young boy did a great job responding immediately. The fact that he had the peace of mind to get himself over to the sink and was SO smart to get himself to his teacher as soon as he realized he couldn’t cough it up himself. Choking is so scary. Anybody who has kids should look into the de-choker device that can save lives when other first aid methods fail.

Bless her, teachers deserve more for what they do. Part of the problem is that schools aren't giving students enough time to eat. This causes the students to rush. You also have to consider that a child's trachea is smaller...as in MUCH smaller. So the portion sizes given to these students should be to scale in order to be digestible

My sister actually saved someone on vacation the other day. We were eating dinner when some lady started choking across the room and the waiter tried helping but didn’t know what to do. Several people rushed but none of them knew what to do. My sister saw what was going on and ran up to the lady and did the Heimlich maneuver and the food came out, the girl was dark purple. It was so surreal watching this in person what made it even more surreal was the fact that it was my little sister who saved this lady. Good job to this teacher, my sister said the same thing that she was trained but never thought she’d really need to do it.

This reminded me of a tragic story in my hometown back in the early 2000's... An elementary school boy was choking on a hotdog and not ONE person tried to help! The teachers were told NOT TO TOUCH THE KIDS EVER ???? ..... I'm sorry but I wouldn't care at that point.. I would lost my job over someone's life! The poor boy passed away...... They took hotdogs off the menu and also changed how the teachers approach situations like this after that.... But it sickens me to this day that noone even tried to help him! It breaks my heart!!! I am SO GLAD this teacher stepped in!!!

My mom had to do this in the toddler room during story time at the day care she use to work at. She spotted the kid on " the magic carpet" where everyone sits cross legged...(iconic story time really).
He was then only kid blank faced looking at my mom, not talking or anything. It was a piece of hard candy they weren't suppose to have. She used the Heimlich manuever and saved his life. Apparently everyone was crying, even my mom afterwards because it's a very serious/traumatic experience. I got CPR certified a few weeks later....today EMT/PARAMADCINE trained as well as TCCC because I do uspsa competition shooting and local matches....
He drew a picture for her thanking my mom and it was the most heart warming drawing I've ever seen. My mom is an angel and I'm blessed to have her.

She was turning blue and luckily I came right on time. I was a nursing student but didn’t finish school but I was proud of myself and relieved to have had some first aid training. Hopefully ill never have to use it again but one thing I learned is its important to always keep your calm and think fast cause a life depends on you. When I was in 1st or 2nd grade I didn’t finish my snack in time before going to my next class but I didn’t want to waste my food so I shoved the rest of my snack in my mouth (a fruit by the foot candy)
Right at that moment the class was leaving and when we all arrived to the next class I had to swallow or I’d get in trouble for still eating so I just gulped it down hoping it was chewed up enough but it wasn’t so I started choking. I tried to tell my friend in front of my but she shrugged me off and told me to quit joking and went in the classroom. I got left behind in the hallway and I was too scared to enter the room and make my classmates witness me purple in the face, choking on candy lol so I just leaned against the wall and hoped I wouldn’t die
Lucky me I guess it wasn’t my time to die that day because the vice principal came walking down the hallway and saw me about to keel over and die and gave me the Heimlich maneuver
