I have listen to this about 20 times (not all in a row). What a great song. The National in definitely one of the major directions of indie music and the most consistent.
I freaking love Matt's passion on every performance he gave. He's like a fragile child trying to overcome his demons, and what a beautiful tries he always delivers.
This video is so quirky and adorable. I love it so much. I think it fits well with what I know of the band mates personality. Just wonderful.

Such a charismatic group, I love them.
You can hear the Joy Division inspired licks in their music. I think it's a compliment, how they've heard Ian Curtis' concepts and adapted them. They each have their own sound, yet correlate. Joy Division laid new ground musically, I think The National respects what they did.
Can't believe it... Zvuki Mu is one of my favourite bands... Don't know what to think of this.

I been hearing the album since last monday, i can´t stop.
I loved the band since i heard the first song.
People always want bigger, better things. Sometimes you have to take a step back and appreciate the small artistic qualities in something meaningful. That's what The National did here and continue to do- emotional sincerity.
For a band who have so many lyrical and musical highpoints, this is a massive lyrical and musical highpoint. Even for them. Quite simply- could well be the greatest song they've ever written.

I think most songs in Boxer surpass this in terms of lyrical depth. I mean Mistaken for Stranger is one of the best written songs Ive ever listen to. But this is still a very good song.

frankieinfrance ZVUKI MU (in Russian "Звуки Му", translated like "The Sound of Moo") is famous soviet russian underground band. You can find their clip called "Грубый закат" ("Rough Sunset") - it's prototype of The National clip - and other videos. Especially one called "Гадопятикна".

It"s not plagiarism......they are paying homage to a band they like, Zvuki Mu . The song isn't identical, and Zvuki Mu is probably reaping the rewards of new-found popularity because they ROCK too. I for one wouldn't have heard of them if not for this vid, so i thank them!
