I really enjoy your car journalism. The way you explain car culture and cars to non-car people like an English professor with tourette's would explain new romanticism just really scratches an indescribable itch.
I would literally watch a several installment travel video with you and a random other TH-camr taking a road trip across the country in a car and you explain car shit to them while they explain whatever their specialty is.
I just spent 1 hr and 22 min watching two people I don't know go on a road trip through Virginia.

Had an LS1 and 6 speed in a Caprice Station wagon with 4.56 gears. Rolled 2500 RPM at 80mph all day. Fantastic road trip drivetrain.

I actually did two 12 - hour road trips in a 2001 Firehawk with the SLP level II pack last year. Car only had 36k original miles on it and was in mint condition. It was a fun experience and it was impossible to keep off the throttle for long. Tons of character!
That said it was a bit of a time capsule and demonstrated how far performance cars have come in the last 20 years.

I just did something like this a few weeks ago. 1400 miles to Illinois to pick up a Cadillac hearse. God it was fun.
I daily drive (in the summer, I have other toys for winter) a 2001 firebird formula with a lid, long tubes and a small cam. Very similar power level. It's an awesome vehicle for road trips surprisingly, gets 25-30mpg even at 80+ with the t56, doesn't ride horrible, has good space for whatever junk or stuff you decide to bring, reliable ...these last years of f bodies have always been the best performance bargain since new and even with today's elevated prices, are still a great value. Pure, connected, raw, simple but modern enough to do things like this.
I actually have two f bodies, ones a garage queen 99 trans am with 62k miles and my formula has 175k+ and counting. If I didn't put 200tw re-71rs Bridgestones on it, I'd still be rocking it until the salt comes. Great to see one of these doing what it's best at; being driven and enjoyed
I love my 1999 Trans am and my 2002 Firebird Formula. They aren't perfect, but they still make me smile. RIP Pontiac.

In Virginia, reckless driving is 20 over the speed limit, but with a hard limit of 85mph, even though that's only 15 over on the 70mph interstates. This is an update as of 2020, prior to that it was 20 over up to 80mph, only giving you 10mph of headroom.
I avoid Virginia like the plague because of crap like this. I live in southwestern PA and there are parts of western VA I'd love to see but have heard far too many horror stories of people getting pulled over and severely ticketed for infractions that the rest of the country would consider minor.

Oh man the Trans Am. When I was a teenager, I wanted one like few other things. Yes, you could get a similar drivetrains in the local SS Commodores, HSVs and the Monaro, but I loved the look of the TransAm ever since I "drove" it in Need For Speed.
I feel the same way about Falcons & Holdens.
This is the best road trip ever!

I really enjoyed your retrospective at the end and I feel the same way about the "futuristic muscle cars". It was the ultimate iteration of the last modem generation that was free to be itself and stand on it's own without the weight of expectation of heritage.
Just drove just under 3000 miles from Mobile, AL to Fairbanks, AK with no problems in my 1995 Trans Am alongside my dad. Proved itself to be a reliable cruiser though the seats sucked…

That pronunciation attempt at Lebanon bologna caught my attention since Lebanon is my current city. Just how long ago was that arcade at the Berkshire Mall? Also funny to realize how often I’ve passed through Port Clinton on motorcycle rides or visiting Cigars International in Hamburg. It’s awesome to be able to enjoy a film length video of a road trip by one person I recognize only through RCR and another I didn’t know of at all. Loud valve intimidation for the win! lol
I went to the website signed up for an entry but got an email saying I should go back to the website to actually secure my entry. It shows a pending transaction on my credit card account but is it not being recognized as an entry?
Didn't expect to think "Nice car, huh. That would be fun in the summer, etc." Sometimes an extended runtime is discouraging but much like the car, it flew by. Also noted the subtle reminder of video game progress - you go to a vintage arcade game meet, and Chai's Nintendo Switch is in plain view on the return leg. IOW, old games are the bomb, but so is modern tech.
BTW I'm currently playing Final Fantasy 7 on my Switch. 😉
Took my 94 Z28 out on a trip, roughly 800 miles combined aaaaand the ignition went out! Left me stranded. Not fun! Good engine, the LT1 is, but the fragile ignition system is its achilles heel.

Id love to see you do a review on a LT1 ws6 TA or firehawk while alot of people shit on them i personally feel like you would be impressed with their performance while its not on the level of an ls1 car they are still fun and definitely have a certin aesthetic to them

I had a friend with that gen of Trans Am, (though not the big extra nostrils one. We did like Boston to NYC via, somewhere, and I found it a great highway car even with me in the back seat. It was like some work shoes I buy, absolutely great until after six hours I Must Get Out. :) )

My sister's father-in-law has a firehawk he bought new. Has all the documentation and everything that came with it and I dont think he has driven it much, so I imagine the miles are super low.
I've wanted a 01/02 WS6 since they were new when I was in high school. What a great car to roll up to school in for your senior year that one of these bad boys. Too bad my family was poor as shit and I didn't get my first car until graduation when I could work enough to make payments (2001 Kia Rio), but MAN would that have been amazing. And maybe...MAYBE...might have been enough to help my awkward ass get laid. Who knows. I'm 39 now and will probably have one for mid-life crisis cars next year.
