i have been drawn to this era as a young teen and now in mid adult hood, I am still captivated.
You should join the SCA
Same.
You are not the only one. I am and will remain forever haunted by an era I've never known.
Absolutely. There's an elemental, mysterious quality of mideval music which is so emotionally compelling. Maybe the imagery in my mind of hardscrabble lives and death so often in close proximity.
Me too. Maybe it's a remnant of past lives.
Recordings back then were unbelievable with such high fidelity and quality even though it was analog..
This music make me remember st from past life...
Tudor and Renaissance Music is such splendour in its simplicity!
Terrific music and Interesting instruments...a real and unexpected delight
I've always been very strongly drawn in, every time I hear this type of music! It has such an indescribable haunting. It literally pulls on my soul to try and reach back in my mind to imagine
what life was like at that distant time in the past. Yet their music survives so complete, so colorful, so descriptive. They literally immortalized themselves via this music. This is likely the closest
thing we humans have to immortality.
I'm partying like it's 1499.

Lady Francis Marie Dymoke was my 10th great-grandmother, I recently discovered. Thank you from the heart for keeping this true art alive through history! x
whos she?
Oh this is super nice!
After the King's religious reformation's and me being heavily tortured on the rack, until I recanted to the true faith and the witnessing of my loved ones being burnt alive, left me with some real anxiety issues. These tunes really got me through that tough time!
I hope you are joking! This isn't funny! :(
@@TheTimeDetective42 If the o.c. really is 500 years old and not joking, it's a testimonial to the power of this music to help people through life. On the other hand if she/he IS joking it goes to show if you live long enough you can have a sense of humor about just about anything.
awww.. bookmark this page for when his daughter, Mary, ascends to the throne.. You'll need more. Hang in there, lad.
As my late father always advised me, if you are caught committing any crimes whatsoever, stealing an apple or cutting down a Seigniorial tree, the witness you must slay as soon as possible.
@@TheTimeDetective42 Oh, thank you for telling me it's not funny, because I laughed.

Greensleeves and If you love me after? Well played madame. Well played.
I cannot have them play for me, for I am locked in my sleeping quarters as to not catch the plague. My dear husband has fallen victim to it a fortnight ago. Dreadful business it is.

Fantastic recollection!! Thanks we need to appreciate what it was back then . I can see Queen Anne Boylen dancing on the Hall having a great time !
Poor old Anne. She overplayed her hand. She was not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Blissful magical music.
Many thanks for providing this for our enjoyment, it really brightens our "plague" lockdown.
They did a great job using this music in Wolf Hall-- did not realize that some the themes were historic until I listened
It's so much delight for me.
It's exactly the same style of renaissance music like the one in Europe.
Neither the orchestration nor the other elements have variations, interestingly.
Architecture is an other thing...
Such specific and wistful sounds from an intriguing and important period in time. Stay safe everyone!
And that less music from before The Middle Ages was recorded really. Some idea of what Egyptian Music might have sounded like still.
Scandanavia though it's all pretty debatable,UK I think we might too but idk if much else of Europe or really The Americans were writing much down.
@zanegoodeker135 All music comes down to the scales and chords involved. Tonality has 2 components 1 being modal (basicaly the overal "vibe" of a scale) and the other being between chords not derived from a specific mode. A lot of historical traditional music can be sorted out by scales and the chords. It isn't until the classical period that you find more complicated music that stops fitting into a scale easily. Most music is a scale and only certain composers really create music that is not Diatonic and modal.
My other life was in this era!! Always felt deeply drawn to the music and beautiful visions of fairies drifting on the air dancing to the latest, harps and drums🦄🕊🤍💙🤍💙💛💚🪶💎⚡️🪄

Thanks again Rachel. I love your choices.
This is a connoisseur's delight . Thanks for the contemporary portraits . It would have been so wonderful had we got brief descriptions of the pictures as well.

Excellent music.Thank you Rachel! I wish I had lived then in the 15th and 16th century!
Not meaning to insult you, but you've got to realize this was privilege of few, most people in those days were peasants, living in dung and eating crap, dressed in rags. With whom would you mingle with? I know where I'd be.
I'm sure you would have second thoughts if you could experience it in all it's unsanitary barbaric cruelty

My dream is to play this at pres and just pretend I’m at a Tudor royal ball. But all of my friends would think I’m so pathetic
It's not pathetic
A lady of culture. Your friends if they mocked you would show themselves to be nothing more than uncultured fools.
As we are now in a rapid period of decline in the West (the Occident), it is worth contimplating the visual and musical beauty of the late Medieval period when the West was ascending to brilliant heights.
It is worth noting that their's was a deeply religious era. As such, they believed in the great Transcendentals of Truth, Goodness and Beauty. Our era, it goes without saying, does not believe in such things. We might say we scoff at such antiquated notions. Hence, our artistic endeavors are grotesquely ugly and even revolting.
One redeeming thing about our time is that we can listen to their music and look upon their faces through this medium. This, perhaps, is like the Lilliputians staring at Gulliver.
Great pix!
I’ve loved this kind of music since a small child my favorite museum is a New York, all the cloisters medieval castle since a child
I have a lot of this music on a Nonesuch album from the 70s.
