1300 Euro might be more expensive compared to the price of the S23 Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro Max in the USA, but 1300 euro is cheaper than both those phones in Europe. (At least my country)
It is not really fair to make a price comparison with USA prices when the phone is not marketed and sold there. You should compare EU prices to other EU prices.
Besides, you you have a world wide audience, so if you make a video regarding a phone that is just released in the EU and Asia, likely most people actually buying that phone will be from that region too, in which case it makes more sense to compare it to prices in that region anyway.
Also US don't show VAT, in the EU price it's included. You can substract ~20% of the price, then compare it to the iPhone...

Good point! And for people outside US and Europe (I live in Brazil) this phone on max settings, 12Gb/512Gb, Is cheaper in conversion than a S23+ 256Gb, and even cheaper than an iPhone 12 pro! So very nice option

16:40 These prices are normal for flagships in the EU. For example: the 14 pro is starting at 1299, the pro max at 1499. The S23 Ultra is starting at 1399. So the Mi 13 Pro has a normal price for EU.

Don't compare EU Xiaomi prices to US Samsung and Apple prices, 13 Pro is considerably cheaper than both S23 Ultra and 14 Pro Max here. On top of that you can have the same privacy concerns with these 2 brands as they also give data to both China AND US depending where do you live.
As much as I appreciate how much they go through to focus on the US/USD pricing as someone that lives there, some additional attention should be paid to disclose pricing in other regions in cases like this

Don't know where in the EU you are in but here in Bulgaria the Mi 13 Pro is more expensive than the S23 Ultra. On the topic of privacy - there is no doubt that Xiaomi is a bigger risk.
Leica is looked at as luxury items now, but keep in mind that they were the go-to cameras for photojournalists back in the day. Robert Capa documented the spanish civil war as well as WW2 with his Leica.

I always feel like it's so weird, if people all over the world talk about Leica. They have their HQ in a small city in Germany, 15 minutes from where my parents live. To me as a kid, it always felt like they were only successful locally. Boy, was I wrong...
At this point I no longer understand why with camera bumps *this big* manufacturers don't just double the battery size. It's not like they're losing on thickness anymore.
What i don't understand is how phones became this thick yet battery size isn't bigger. I mean look how thick that thing is?
I see batteries inside bigger that what my old 2017 Mi Max 2 had and yet that phone had a bigger than 5000mah battery(i think it is 5300mah) and was going for days.
What is happening? Isn't battery tech suppose to get better? Why are thick bigger batteries no bigger than 5000mah?
@@SIPEROTH simple, really. Consumers have already worked out a habit of charging daily. So all that's largely *required* of a battery is to survive a single day. And improvements over that don't result in significant sales boosts. This is pure, if educated, speculation though.
This kinda defeats my own original point, which I guess I now have to admit was more of a sarcastic retort at a common argument for poor battery capacities rather than a genuine message. But nobody should really be concerned with what I think if the message checks out.
Who wants the phone to be heavier than a brick and generate more just to gain an extra 2 hours of battery life.
Phones are well optimised now and charging speed already crazy. Less battery is the way to go. I'd say 4000 or 4500 is perfect

@@trilexi Why? nobody uses APS-C eqv. for lenses. Even APS-C lenses are talked about in 35mm eqv. terms. Not to mention that APS-C isn't always the same as Canon has 1.6x crop while all others have 1.5x.
@@filipruml The 35mm eqv. has been a standard for a long time and since it is a real sensor size it's not going to change (unlike aps-c which has different size depending on the manufacturer)

The IR blaster is good for controlling many things, like MI TV, or the majority of air conditioning / TV with IR receiver while using 3rd party IR remote control apps, especially if you can't find the remote controls anywhere.
Was at a bar yesterday and hijacked one of the TVs because I didn't want to watch sports. IR blasters are amazing sometimes.
right but the built-in Xiaomi remote app is not great, only good for power and volume buttons on my LG. it got better with another app on the Playstore, easily beats the remote of my TV
@@zodiacfml for sure. The app I use has a learning function, so I can use it for stuff like my speakers. It just copies the existing remotes signal, and is a bit of a pain to get set up, but it's come in handy a few times when you lose a remote, as long as you have it learned before you lose it.
ir blaster is absolutely my most missed feature from my old galaxy. its not that you'll use it all the time, its that when you need to use it you'll be so glad to have it. especially when you have to change the channel on a tv in a McDonalds so you dont have to see sean hannity's face.
It helped me out of #### so many times!
Would be great to see a bloatware showdown of the latest phones given you can't totally remove them sometimes and there has been situations where even though you hide them they will still run in the background
With Xiaomi usually you can remove all extra apps except some Xiaomi apps like their gallery app for photos or their music app or the notes app and calculator and security app to clean your phone etc.
Also of course the Google apps are also there and only few of them can be uninstalled like almost all phones with Android really.
In the end when it comes to bloatware you can't point your finger at Xiaomi as inexplicitly many TH-cam reviewers do unless you only like Pixel phones that only force Google apps and nothing else because Samsung that everyone is fine with has every bit as much or more that you can't uninstall etc. Samsung has more Samsung apps as well than Xiaomi has Xiaomi apps.

Friendly reminder that barely used pixel 5s are less than 200. Phones have stagnated so hard, whatever you need was probably made a few years ago and is a fraction of the price.

The only issue with old phones is the battery, my father just switched to a new phone just because the battery in his LG G7 stopped holding enough power to be usable.
But to be fair, batteries can be replaced for much less money then buying a new phone. (usually)
@@LukaSauperl honesty, I used the pixel 5 as an example because its what I've done recently and the battery is almost perfect.
If you find a low use phone, the batteries can be pretty good, and the 5 doesn't even have an especially big one to begin with. There are plenty of old phones with massive batteries that'd make ip for the difference in age.
I have a pixel 5 and is an excellent phone.
I just went for the Xiaomi 12T pro a week ago, the price went down fast from 800 to just 400 in 3-4 months and it replaced my Huawei P30 pro after 4 years. The Camera is good and the 120W charging is pretty nice.
For 400 it was a pretty good choice.
Still rocking my Mi Mix 2 that I imported from China when it came out. Battery definitely starts to become weaker but I will use this phone until it completely dies.
I change mine to a Poco X3 Pro great phone, but nothing compares to the feeling of the Mi Mix 2 ceramics it's feel expensive and solid really missed that sensation

I still use my mi mix 2 since the year it was launched. accidentally soaked in water 2 times. last year I changed the battery with 3rd party brand. xiaomi/poco batteries are easy to find

Still using mi6 since it came out. If u want you could always replace your battery for like 20-30$ and add a year or two more life to your phone. Thats what I did.
Personally, I loved the last design with the "leather" back and circle camera bump especially with the gold accent around the cameras. Big fan of that look.

Most of the wear and danger of charging lithium ion fast is heat - so wireless charging is probably about as bad as the fast charging (whatever gets it more hotterer for longer is worse).
The thing with the ropes isn't about being rugged, its just the camera strap style thats in vogue at the minute, not sure why cause when you've got a 2 kg weight on the end of it it really kinda hurts.

When I bought my 12S Ultra, it came with a super high quality umbrella, a water bottle in the shape of a camera lense, a rechargeable desk lamp, and some pins and such.
Pretty nice bonus for a phone that was already competitively priced and even came with an actually-fast fast charger (67 wattst).
Oh, and it came with a screen protector already installed, which is still on there today and doesn't have any bubbles or peels in it, and a phone case (that I don't use).
Amazing value for a phone that, just the device itself, is already an amazing device.
Xiaomi is awesome, not sure what point the video is going to explain why not to buy it, but forget that. This phone is amazing, much like the majority of mainline Xiaomi phones.
It's a shame you don't make it clear in the video that Xiaomi is obligated to share data with the Chinese government for devices sold in China, to Chinese citizens.
This does not include devices sold outside the US.

Basically yes. You give up storage on the phone for some extra RAM that will be slower than the rest of the 12GB. Like on all of the other phones that have this feature you can just turn it off.

@@IzuShiTei It is mostly both, apps made by Chinese are BLOATED and requires a ton of ram to run and their apps are required to stay in background in order to receive notifications (they can't use FCM). So for phone companies, it is normal for them to introduce feature to "expand" memory size while hurting the longevity of the storages in order to urge for a faster replacement cycle.

It’s not supported in the U.S…so my question is if I buy this phone, how do I take pics and send it asap to my friends? Even if I use WhatsApp, I still need a phone number to use on the phone to connect with friends and family in order to send pics. I really want to use it as a camera, but convenience of sending pics right away while on vacation. I can always use public wifi as ways of transmission. Are there any apps that don’t need a phone number to send pics to friends?

those apps with the blue dots are not installed, they're "recommended apps", aka ads. you can actually see the option to turn those off in the menu when Jake entered in the options.
Google already shares data with law enforcement. There's basically no difference between smartphone companies when it comes to privacy concerns imo
iPhone 14 Pro Max is no less than 1500€ in Europe retail. So it's 200€ off at least here in Europe for Xiaomi 13 Pro.
They still just rarely talk about european prices. I should assume we do not represent most of their viewership, since they mostly talk about us pricing, not even canadian.

It's actually cheaper than the iPhone 14 Pro Max AND Samsung S23 Ultra.
When you're comparing US prices to EU prices you need to add like ~23% to the US price, which makes iPhones and Samsungs quite a lot harder. Which is, I would *guess*, one of the reasons that the Samsung's A line of phones and many Chinese phones are more popular in EU then in US.
Current price for Samsung S23 Ultra in Slovenia:
256GB, 8GB RAM = 1399 €
Current price for iPhone 14 Pro Max in Slovenia:
128GB = 1422 €
Sadly prices aren't uniform in the EU.
As an example: If I were to import the XM13Pro, I'd have to pay 19% import VAT + 10% customs tariff on the phone's value+import VAT combined. So this phone, as shown, from AliExpress, would cost me around 1650€ right now. And I'm pretty sure in Slovenia it's even worse due to the higher VAT.
But let's say I wouldn't want to pay import taxes and just buy it locally at a Xiaomi store (why would you want to do that, considering that the XiaomiEU variants are usually shipped with less features on the software side). 1299€ is very much the same price of an iPhone 14 Pro Max 128GB here.
/edit: I'm an idiot, 1299€ is the price of the iPhone 14 Pro (which would've made for a far better comparison anyway but I digress).
And yeah, like many others have said, 1300€ is about the same as the cheapest iPhone 14 Pro Max in Europe and Samsung S23 Ultra. Technically a little bit cheaper, since those two are a bit over 1300€ and the Xiaomi is a bit under. You can't do a euro -> USD conversion and then compare to US prices, everything's gonna be more expensive that way.
The issue is that EU has tax included.

I trusted Xiaomi, for years I had Xiaomi phones, Xiaomi 9 lite, Xiaomi 10 pro, and finally I bought Xiaomi 13 pro, I was overjoyed. New phone, great parameters, 12 GB of RAM, 512 GB of internal memory and such a low price. Well, as it turns out, you get what you pay for. After a short period of use, the phone began to freeze. applications took three or four times longer to land than at the beginning, when I called someone, apparently I sounded like a robot and no one could understand me. After connecting wireless headphones, the sound was terribly low, you couldn't hear anything at maximum volume. The charger is supposedly 65 volts, which is pathetic, but I have a 32 volt charger that charged faster. I 100% advise against buying this model. the bubble is staring. I'd rather invest more money in a phone that meets the basic requirements.
What the hell did you do with you phone lmao. I bought the Xiaomi 13 pro during the day it was released in my country and inside the case itself there was the 120w charging brick and charging cable. I had recently purchased a new charging cable as the current one had worn out due to use. Like you mentioned about the charging i had noticed that the phone charges using the 67w charging cable, but using the 67w brick i will not get the 120w charging speed. Also using any other cables will give me very slow charging speeds even if it was connected to the 120w charging brick.
It has been more than a year since i have been using this phone as my main and so far in terms of bugs i had only noticed a major bug where my screen had gotten stuck due to me using the multi tab to play two different apps and then switching off the screen which got the screen stuck and i had to restart the phone and it fixed itself. I have as of yet not noticed the apps loading slower than when i first used it. I play plenty of games and have been playing Genshin Impact on the daily ever since i had gotten this device and now i also downloaded Wuthering Waves and play both games, and even though i have two heavy games on my phone i have not seen any slowing issues or drop of frames when casually using the phone. frames only drop in the game when the phone heats up or when battery is low.
Speaking on battery, that may be the only main issue i have seen with the phone. The charging is insanely fast, but of course using that charging speed for a whole year has taken a toll and the battery life has reduced for me.
I also had noticed that when i connected my Bluetooth headphones to the phone the sound felt weirdly low, but after tweaking around the sound and the Dolby Atmos settings i was able to fix that issue.
This was my first Xiaomi phone and honestly so far i have been loving my decision to purchase this phone in comparison to the flagships of Samsung or iPhone. To see you have faced this many issues with the phone makes me wonder what could have possibly been done with it to get such issues.
Just because it charges faster doesn't necessarily mean that it will wear down your battery THAT MUCH like some of you make it seem...more than likely the battery is split in two and has better thermal management compared to other phones.
The thing that kills battery is overheating, and I can bet that doesn't stop you from using the phone in a hot day...
Also why does those complains not appear in wireless charging? Appreciate the feature if it's well implemented and hope that it comes to other mainstream phones.
Yeah the more impactful change one can make is not charging to full 100%. 70% is a huge difference
I've had my iPhone 14 Pro for 5 months and kinda want to trade it in and switch back to android. Price comparison is quite the other way around in China, where top spec MI 13 pro cost you USD$800 and USD$1400 for the entry spec iPhone 14 Pro Max. I do enjoy the battery life of my iPhone, but the iOS just keep turning me off from time to time. Privacy is simply not a thing in our time and my country, doesn't really matter if I'm on MI or iPhone.

I actually had that idea for an app several years ago, and I tried looking up novel ways to do that using a standard smartphone camera as from what I gathered the bit pulses (the infrared on-off cycle) are just 1.778ms long and thus a standard slow-motion capability on a smartphone isn't adequately quick.
I had a couple of ideas to circumvent this but it seems these require being able to alter the code possibly hard-coded into the camera's components. So this functionality may only be possible with either a built-in (which I'm not sure exists) or a third-party IR receiver.

Victus 2 was announced in November last year? Probably using Victus 1 because of the lead time for manufacturing, Victus 2 might not have been an option.
This isn't more expensive then the 14 pro max in my country, it isn't significantly cheaper but it definitely isn't more expensive. I've been using and loving the Mi 11 since it came out so I could see myself going Xiaomi again.

is your wifi module desoldered yet? Mi 11 has a hardware defect that the wifi module would be desoldered itself after a period of use (something like red ring of death of xbox 360), it is a design issue that can not be fixed. In China, Xiaomi offered a 3-years warranty after facing PR nightmare and public backlash, but I haven't heard that they offered the same period of warranty in other countries.

I don't play games on my phone so it really never gets especially hot which means no desoldering probably.

The price information is not serious. It comes from AliExpress and starts at a fantasy price of Euro 2,522 and shows Euro 1,261 after discount. The fine print says that it is the 256 GB version. I visited a Xiaomi flagship store in Bangkok today. The official price for the 12GB/512GB version is Euro 1,090 (including 7% VAT).

You can get the xiaomi 13 pro much cheaper than he suggested, Flossy Carter did a review on this phone,and showed you where you can get this for $799, I am in the UK and I have seen this phone got £799, so at these prices,ie £799 it's a great phone for that price.

No headphone jack though, even in 2023 it's still a must-have for me (I need it for my work).
IR blasters are so good, I still keep my old LGV20 around just as a universal remote

@@adredy I teach group exercise classes at various gyms, the one commonality with them all is aux. I could use a usbc adapter but they are unreliable, and use a shitty DAC. My main phone is an LG V50S with a fantastic quad DAC and full hardware level EQ controls.
It's also very handy for my car, where I leave an aux lead plugged in, and means I can still use the usbc for other things while playing music.

Ximi 13pro is a great device but their software policy is a deal breaker at that price I don't have any complaints with miui.
s23 ultra was my 1st preference but i was huge i wanted something around 6.6 or 6.7inch display s23+ is overpriced af op11 was meh tried it in store so went for 13pro great device so far but still miss oneui. anyway I may install custom rom in future so I'm fine with miui for now

@@honeymunch1273 great device no major issues as of now camera is great love the way they do the less sharpened processing. but miui indian variant is too restricted unlike the Chinese version. anyway miui needs a major overhaul. battery Life is amazing. but feature and customisation wise oneui is the best as a power user i would set up the device exactly to my usage but in miui u dont have that much flexibility
i have high hopes for miui 15 hopefully they change the interface according to material you if not i may move onto a custom rom in near future

Don't get me wrong, i'm not an Apple fan, i use a pixel, but you can''t deny that they have something very good going on. If i ever decide to spend over 1000 euros on a phone it's gonna be an Iphone because i know that it will age much better than this Xiaomi.
I have an iPhone XS as a backup phone which was released in 2018 and it runs the latest version of ios 16 and will get ios 17 and more and it also runs perfectly smooth. Show me a single xiaomi released that year that runs android 13 officially, not custom rom.

you guys should've converted the files from the phone camera because premiere pro can not deal with variable framerate files decent enoughly, so the sample video in video is laggy as hell.

I have been using 11T Pro 1,5 years now. For the price it is ok phone, but the thing that makes me pondering and switching to Samsung or iPhone is the how the software works and customer service. I mean, there is a lot of glitches and weird things going on, rigth from the start. Mostly it works, like 80% of the time.. The user interface is not as intuitive as with Samsung.. The customer service is not that good.. I tried to get help with my Vacuum Bot and first they did not reply at all and when I send ”a bit more bitter” email, they just gave me the same advice as you can find from the web and not answering for all my problems.. After I explained myself more, they said to get contact for the retailer.. But this is only my experience.. 😊
But if the interface and the weird glitches are still there the price is way too high..

I'm still rocking my Xiaomi MI 10 Ultra. Yet to find a phone, iPhone 14 Pro, S23 Ultra etc... that comes close. I love that Xiaomi's full res camera option can be added to the shortcuts and that it doesn't AI the sh1t out of your images.

Lol bought the s23u coming from a note8pro and damn I'll go back to the remi until I've made a better choice, nothing is worth for this s23u since the note8pro was such a great deal for almost a tenth of the price of the Sammy.

Yeah man I don't know why people hate on Xiaomi, I m still rocking my mi10t for almost 3 yrs now, battery has gone down a bit, but the phone still performs like day 1. And the added bonus is mi account which no one tells you about.

This really is not a very good video. As other have mentioned, the pricing comparisons are wrong. Also, fast charging batteries that are made for fast charging really don't do that much damage, it's kind of a myth on most cases, and wireless charging is definitely not a better way to charge your phone at all. It's half as fast in this case, wastes 40% of energy to heat, and you can't use the phone when it's on the charging pad, and it's still attached to a wire.

Indeed. I know with my OnePlus 11 they advertised 1600 charge cycles before going down to 80% battery health and that's with the 80w SuperVOOC charging. This phone shown in the video has the same tech in it but charges at 120w(assuming you use 220v). These phones can charge that quick because they moved some charge circuitry from the phone to the power brick and cable you have to use. Phones are very intelligent as well to dial down the charge speed when needed to not damage the battery.
The 50W wireless is probably worse for the battery than the 120W wired. I'm not an expert though

@@craigpodsprojames2500 Those claims are basically 100% based on what these companies have said. I wouldn't trust them very much because it doesn't even make sense on the face of it. More watts equals more heat generation and excess heat. How does that equal a better longevity for a battery?
@@user-ye6ft4ly7r No it's because these super fast 80-120+ watt chargers are fairly new and we don't know how badly they will effect battery in the long term. A ton of these may need new batteries every year which will likely be expensive and niche as they use weird battery designs.
All of the claims of them being ok is based off the info from the companies trying to sell them to you.
The problem with Xiaomi getting up to that price point is normal consumers only trust 2 phone brands that is Samsung and iPhone so I don't think it's a good idea to try to compete with them, even here in my country after they announced the price people already have in mind that "at that price I'd rather go for iPhone"
In my country people consider Xiaomi as an equal competitor so they def have opportunity. Unless they are part of fanbase of another brand.

i read up about tech and phones regularly, and knew which camera is which sensor because it was literally on Xiaomi's website. i feel like it reflects in many of their phone videos that they aren't really doing much research in terms of the fine details before making the videos. anyway that's just my opinion
I would prefer to see a review of the standard Xiaomi 13 (which is less money and will drop significantly ....). But at this price, if you are an android user, Samsung S23 series is a "safer" choice.
For me I'll be buying one of these because the Chinese version is 940 (including tax and shipping) for the 12+256gb model. Compare that to the s23+ which is $1000 which doesn't include a fast charger, tax or shipping and I'd much rather get this. Especially since to me while the 13 Pro is worse than s23 ultra it's definitely better than the s23+

@@JoshuaG Samsung guarantees since last year for all new A and S class 4 major updates and 5 years auf security updates. At Xiaomi it varies and for the 13 Pro they only promise 3 major updates. While updates from Xiaomi often come a lot later than from Samsung.

Smartphones have reached the point where every company is copying each other’s bits and put them on their phones. Hopefully we will see something innovative in 5 years time.
I wish a company that would release a phone with bezels, a hardened outer casing, a thick battery, expandable storage, and a headphone jack. That would be innovative almost excessively so by todays meager standards.
