Enjoyed your video. I recently was able to pickup one of the 2013 run of Winchester Featherweight Super Grades in 7x57. Like you, I love the red butt pads vs black. I have the exact same rings and scope on my rifle as well.
Thank you for this post. I am a German hunter and am happy to comment on this. The 7x57 Mauser, the oldest metal cartridge, is still the silent champion. It is wonderfully comfortable to shoot. Many inexperienced young hunters were trained with the cartridge by me. I tested some Africa reports with RWS full jacket and made a 140 gr. full jacket round head cartridge that penetrated 70cm of softwood in a straight line. no 308/-06 or others up to 375 can do that. I have one in Ackley Improved that doesn't need to shy away from comparison in 7x64/280 or RM. Best regards
I had a Ruger M77/270 re-barreled to a .275 Rigby with a Shilen 24 inch barrel. I have worked a load so far that pushes a 154 grain bullet at an average velocity of 2758 fps. It's a beautiful rifle I hope to harvest much game with.
I have two of the 7x57 SC/FN Featherweights, both are quite accurate with very low recoil. I have a Kahles 1.5-6 on the first and a Kahles 3-9 on the second. The lower powered scope is zeroed at 100yds and the higher one is zeroed at 200yds. The kicker is that both of them love PPU ammo, inexpensive and it hits on point! I’m with you though about using heavy for caliber if I were going to Africa! 139/149g ammo is fine for whitetail anatomy but not as good for African game. Your heavy Nosler Partition choice would be mine also! Great video, beautiful rifle! Thanks for posting!
The two largest elk I've ever harvested were taken with a 7x57. One with a 139 grain bullet and the other with a 140 grain bullet. These were both large 6x6 bull elk and one shot kills at about 200 yards. The rifle I used is a model 93 Spanish Mauser with a custom barrel built by my father in gun smithing school at Trinidad State College headed by Bill Prator who was well known in the business.
Good video. Thanks for posting! I use a 7x57 to hunt white tail on the East Coast. Mine is a Model 98 and it loves to digest heavier bullets. I currently shoot 162 gr Hornady SST bullets on top of 42 gr of IMR 4350. It produces 1 in groups at 200 yds. I was shooting 140 gr bullets but was having trouble with excessive drop at 200 yds (12 - 18 in!). I switched to a .260 Rem for a while using 140 gr Hornady ELD-X bullets but was getting too many thru and thru shots that would knock down game but not kill them nor leave a sufficient blood trail to follow so its on the shelf until I can work up new loads with new bullets. Currently working up a CG 1916 6.5 Swede. Point Blank on that rifle is 300 yds open sights! Still working on customizing it so its not field ready yet. Ran out of cash and time for improvements.
I like your style on rifles! I like my Winchester, but am considering doing a “heirloom build” on a 1909 Argentine I have that has already been sporterized.
Just think, if 7x57 a DG and varmint cartridge was all there was, we would probably never be out of factory ammo primers, powder, and brass. It is a fantastic and extremely versatile round.
Beautiful rifle. Wish you would have shown some accuracy results on some targets. I shoot a 7x57 in Ruger M77. I have always loved the cartridge. It will do everything a 308 will do. I also have a custom built Swedish Model 96 mauser in 6.5x55, beauty wise, as nice a looking rifle as you will ever see. Shoots sub MOA at 100 with just all ammo I've tried but likes the Federal Power Shok and the Nosler Accubond, both in 140 gr at around 2650fps.
I’ll include more range time in videos going forward. Wish I had a private range I could use - it’s tough to get good audio at the range with shooting going on, but may use it to voice over some results going forward.
Love 7x57 mauser wish it was more popular. You said something about you reload try imr4064 powder. Great rifle you have there only 1 thing wrong with it it's not Remington. Hahaha

Thank you so much for the kind comment! That 2013 run is really awesome!

That sounds like a sweet setup, and it also looks like you’re getting some great MV. Hope you have many great hunts with it!
Can't stop watching, recently purchased HUSQVARNA 1640 in 7x57 planing to load 168 gr NOSLER LR ACCUBOND for moose hunt.
Informative video. The 7x57mm is a great round. I think it compares well with the 280 Remington which is a fantastic cartridge.
Thanks for watching! If a person is willing to load the 7x57 to modern pressures, it is right there with the 280 Remington no doubt.
I just picked up a Mauser 98 customized by Roy Vail and chambered in 7x57 Mauser. This video was helpful.
Glad you liked it!
Have a Spanish mauser in 7x57 built in 1900 still works great
Awesome! Sounds like a sweet rifle!
I got one two shoots great

Thanks for the kind comments! And there is nothing wrong with having a rifle that shoots cheap ammo well! Sounds like an awesome problem!

Very nice rifle. First rifle I got was a 1895 7mm Mauser.
Thank you!
I have a Ruger no. 1 in this caliber. It's a very accurate rifle.
Sweet!
I like your video. Would you consider reviewing the 6.5 x 54 Mannlicher- Schonauer cartridge?
I just got a .275 Rigby 24” barrel on a 1909 Argentine action . Lyman peep sight.
Love that parent action! Have one myself id love to do a build on - either 7x57 or 9.3x62

It’s a dang flexible round!

He should be happy it's not a Remington and glad it's a control feed action.
I think that the 284 Win is the US equivalent to 7mm Mauser
7pm/love 7mm mauser.would like to see 35Whelen.thanks
Thanks for the note! I need to get back to making more cartridge videos and will put the 35 Whelen on the list!
