Hello everyone, the U.K. distributor has informed me that the IN200 Signature retails for £1,595 without the DAC. The DAC version is £1,795. Sorry for the error.

@M S it is a bit confusing but the Atoll IN200 Signature sells for £1,595 without the DAC and £1,795 with the internal DAC.

@@abritishaudiophile7314 It makes sense. It's a reasonable price for an AKM 4490 based board. It's the chip in the RME ADI2 FS V.1 (is everyone aware that the AKM factory burned to the ground six months ago? Stocks are dwindling!) Many people use external dacs, so why incur in additional expense (unless for the sake of convenience or integration).
The "free" dacs in most integrateds tend to be fairly modest.

But an amp is more than the sum of its parts. A business has running costs, R&D, payroll, engineering, warranties and so on.

You didn't mention that by pushing the right control in you can adjust the balance.
I've owned one for about 3 months now, really like it, much better than the Hegel H190 it replaced.

Just got this amp yesterday for the equivalent of £1100. Had it driving my MA Silver 500 for about 5 straight hours at about 85dB (measured with iphone app). Very detailed and powerful. Finally went to bed and my wife asked me: "How do i turn it on tomorrow to play some music?" Cant think of a better review!

Today I got the Atoll AM200 Signature (power amp), I connected it to the pre-out of my Arcam SOLO NEO and my DALI MENUET speakers, and woww... just WOWWWW! The sound suddenly gained depth, three-dimensionality, plain linen suddenly turned to soft silk, the sound gained depth, the amplifier controls it now with a velvet fist. What a difference!

I have an Atoll IN-200 in both my setups, in the beginning the mids/highs we're a little forward (not harsh) and lean in the bass which resulted sometimes in listening fatigue with some tracks. After a few months I changed the interconnects from an AudioQuest Evergreen to a Golden Gate and the sound changed to a much fuller (richer) sound with a coherent bass without any fatigue! Sometimes even falling asleep with high volumes 😅( I don't comment on depth and imaging because this is also related to the source, speakers and their placement). I agree that this amp plays incredible well (dynamic) at very low volumes. I also use (sometimes)the balance control when I'm seated off axis and this works perfect with this amp. I can only recommend the Atoll brand and also their customer service is 10/10. Great review! 👌 PS My choice for AudioQuest was more a coincidence but I'm very happy with the result 🙂

PS you are completely right about the sound, the bass is very thight and controlled but never overwhelming, the volume set at 10 is already enough for late evening listening with an engaging sound..

Hello Tarun, excellent review. I really hope that you’ll be able to test more Atoll products in the near future.
I currently own and enjoying multiple Atoll products. From my trusty DAC100SE , DR100 CD transport to my recently acquired and excellent sounding ST200 signature DAC/streamer.
The above items work extremely well with my Hegel H120 and Sugden ANV-50.
Two additional tidbits to add to your review which might be useful to others.
Often overlook but important to me is the physical size of Atoll products as compared to the competition. Even the higher end Atoll IN300 comes in at a reasonable 12.6 inched deep. I would love a H390 but it’s just too big for my average size living room setup.
Another point, and from personal experience is Atoll’s customer support which I find to be very good. Always there when help, and respond quickly to email enquiries (good luck getting a quick response from Sugden 😉).
That’s it, thanks again and stay safe. Brian.

I auditioned this amp for my B&W 804N, and after half an hour I knew that it wouldn't leave my house. I am still happy with it after almost two years, and if I ever need to get a more powerful amp, I'll stay with Atoll.
Their separate phone stage (not the optional board) HD100 is really good too!
    And yes, great review :)

Hi Tarun. Great to hear your review of the Atoll IN 200. You may remember I previously mentioned I was considering buying the Atoll and the Amphion Argon 3S both made in Europe.( I do not buy Chinese manufactured products so the Hegel was a non starter.) I have been running the Atoll (with DAC) for 3 weeks now partnered with Castle Howard S2 (20year + old) speakers. The Atoll has got mellower over time and seems to be continuing to do so. My speaker drivers are 115 cm from the front wall and 2m apart. The room is 6.9m long. The sound stage with the Atoll is wider than the speaker distance, deep, high and not forward of plane of drivers. Imaging is better than with my Krell KAV-400Xi but slightly narrower sound stage. DAC compares well with my Lindemann MusicBook20DSD although does not upsample. Still considering Amphion Argon 3S and Proac D2R speakers but after your review perhaps ATC SCM19 would be a better match. I continue to welcome your reviews. Daniel

You nailed it ! Great description of this local integrated ;)
I started with the Atoll In30 and In100 and currently the In200 as one reference. I love Atoll signature sound, it's alive.
For all the Atoll integrated, upgrade advice : Replace the power supply by Mundorf Mlytic AG capacitors, you gain weight, texture, sparkle in the bass. I call it the electric bass.
You change the coupling caps by Elna silmic II RFS bypass by SCR SY 0.47µf film caps. You'll gain more clarity, density and finesse to the all spectrum.
This amp is amazing and with small upgrades it becomes great ! 2 audionote kasei bipolar in the right place and :)

@@kfernandes86 In the IN100SE i don't think it's jamicon, more generic stuff but yes the gain is big.
But what i recommand change all, absolutly all the caps.If you can change for the Higher voltage. Instead of 35V go for 50V or 100V. Every electrolitic (Elna, Audio note) bypass by a film (SCR SY, jantzen superior z cap or Miflex kpcu-03). If you have the money go for all film caps for the coupling caps.
It's worth it if you can do it yourself because it's almost 300 euro in component. You'll have to pay an additional 400+ if someone has to doit for you.

Another great review Tarun. Good job. It's amazing what they can build for the money...wonder if they still make money. Only critic one can have are the small heatsinck. I think a big one on each side will be beter.
    Small remark aside...
When you talk about the quality of the DAC, maybe should mention that people will be more then happy with it for those looking for a build-in or external at this price point iso generalise it to 'most people'. I think the DAC is top notch and in balance (even at the top end) with the 'position'of the amp in the market. Great one Tarun..thumbs up!!!

Atoll is a serious competitor to everything from the popular Japanese and British brands (NAD and Cambridge). The IN200 and their below 1000 euros lines, of INs, PRs, MAs and AMs, is of equal built quality, for their respective price. Minimalist features compared to the competition, but better components. I consider them as introductory to high end gear.

Another very accurate and detailed review, I listened to this amplifier in a hi fi shop and my conclusions are exactly the same as yours, the bass is fast but lacks presence, there is a bit of harshness in the low treble frequencies when turning the volumen up, it was driving a pair of Dynaudio S40, this amp has a detailed and analytical sound very similar to that of Musical Fidelity M6si and has lots of power that would suit warm sounding loudspeakers. Overall this amp is a very nice choice that deserves an audition.

I recently had the opportunity to buy the previous model the IN200se at an amazing price. the major difference visually is buttons to adjust volume and balance in lieu of a knob. I am sure there are other changes but I remain ignorant of those although they seem very similar. I liked the amp a lot. Dynamic,, slightly warm, detailed but just true to the music and natural sounding to me. I used the preamp section of the Atoll with a pair of Belles Aria mono block amps and I was stunned. The sound was outstanding. The preamp section of that amp is just a killer.. Just my experience but very interesting. Excellent construction on my unit but for the US selling price for a Signature model of about $2900, I"d want to hear the signature over my model before taking the leap.

    Hi Tatun,
I am currently Using the Atoll IN50 dedicatedly in the Bypass mode (as a Power-Amp), in my Listening chain (My Dedicated Streaming Device for Tidal Masters and ITunes, Mac Book pro) to (My Delta Sigma DAC, Soncoz LA-QXD1) to (As my Pre-Amp, Feliks Audio Echo) to (As my Power-Amp, Atoll IN50) to (My Bookshelf Speakers Xavian Mia 2). Was considering Upgrading the Power-Amp section with a dedicated Power Amp (Atoll AM100Sig).
Last week, I got to know of a Friend who has decided to sell his Atoll IN200 SE, I am guessing (2014 Model) through the same person (Ex Distributor for Atoll), from whom I purchased the Atoll IN50. He has agreed to take back the IN50 and sell me the IN200 SE minus the price I paid for the previous. Went and brought home the amp today (I want to Audition the Amp, before I buy It). Will connect the amp tomorrow morning. Very excited and am looking forward to experiencing the upgrade in my Audio chain.

A very interesting review which struck a chord with me. I recently upgraded my perfectly fine £1800 30 year old integrated British amp with a damping factor of 1400, for a 4 times the price preamp, monoblocks combination, with a damping factor of 2600. The bass was fast and tight, but, totally lacked heft! I listened to it for 3 months, hoping that the manufacturers recommended 200 hour burn in time would improve things. It didn’t!
If I had to live with this rather lean sonic picture, I guess I would have learned to appreciate it’s openness, clarity and transparency, but I chose not to. I plumbed back in my 30 year old Vritish integrated and immediately appreciated the acoustic mass and musical density it bought back.
I spoke with the dealer from whom I’d purchased the preamp monoblocks combo. He was extremely understanding and helpful and allowed me to swap out the preamp for another manufacturers preamp which he describes as being far more legato. He was right. The new combo now offers that acoustic mass, musical density and fluidity I appreciate, maybe at the loss of a little resolution, but that is a sacrifice I’m happy to make!
That 30 year British integrated, is not connected, but still sits proudly in my rack, in readiness for active service should it be required.

What a coincidence... yesterday i upgraded my Iotavx SA-3 & PA-3 stack for a used Atoll IN300. I loved the Iota amps, but they are overruled by the Atoll on all fronts. The soundstage of my Dynaudio Evoke 20's has doubled in width and reaches way beyond my speakers now. Toe in is nog longer necessary. Only after hooking up the Atoll I now understand what all this talk about depth in soundstage means as well. It suddenly is there, as I never heard that the singer was in front of the piano player before. Left to right was noticable with the Iota's, but depth.... nope. I believe that the Iota-stack is your best choice under € 2.000. The Atoll IN300 is another league. Only downside is that I have to listen to my complete vinyl collection again, as I now hear details for the very first time. Thanks for the review Tarun!

I haven’t heard the Roksan at home but at dealers and shows and it sounded very good. The Hegel H95 is also an excellent choice. If you want a built in DAC, I would go for the Hegel. If you are going to use a good external DAC like the Denafrips Ares II, the Roksan may be the better choice 😊👍

CLASS H amplification is my favorite.. especially the newer ones.. If that amp. your showing was worth it's weight in salt it would have XLR inputs and SPEAKON outputs.. At least it's not a TUBE amp..LOL.. RCA connectors are LAME! Dude you gotta get some REAL speakers! You gotta move some air man, what the heck are you using those little dinky speakers for.. Get some TOWERS with Dual 15" woofers along with some 18" subs.. Oh well to each his own.. Spend a lot of money for looks and not really any great performance for the money.. I'll put my JBL Party Box 710s up against that amp. you have any day of the week..

Great review Tarun, thanks again! The sound signature sounds very similar to other mosfet based apps I’ve owned/heard, which I have to say generally are not my cup of tea. Super fast, tight, but somewhat lean bass (lacking in low end weight). Lacking a bit in warmth through midbass and mids. Some upper midrange emphasis. Overall immediacy and dynamic prowess even at low listening volumes, etc. So far, I prefer the low end weight and warmth and smoothness of bipolar output transistors over mosfets in my limited experience. Would be interested if you’ve noticed similar things in other amps.

    • @abritishaudiophile7314
      @abritishaudiophile7314  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you Rick. Great to hear about your experiences. You have summed up the Atoll amp very well. I was always led to believe that mosfets and jfets operated more like tubes than bipolars. The distortion profile would lead to more 2nd harmonic giving it a warmer, richer sound. I haven’t listened to enough of them to draw that conclusion so I wouldn’t bet on it being true. It would be interesting to find out in time 😊👍

In my rooms(s) I always experienced to much bass weight from different speakers/amps. The Atoll solved this issue completely but now it sounded a bit to lean 🙈 adding a musical sub was the solution, so now the Atoll in combination with a sub is in my room the perfect solution..

I tried to buy one of these in the USA. The website told me my closest retailer was a couple hours away. I called that retailer and they said they were willing to sell the products but the distributor never got back to them to get them the amps. I wrote to the company in france and they connected me with the us distributor. The distributor never got back to me. The company in france then wrote to me to see if I ever purchased the product. I told them the distributor never got back to me. They then contacted the distributor to get his ass in gear and he apologized but didntgive me any way to actually purchase the products. After several more email to France to call out the distributor for not getting back to me he finally gave me the number of a hifi shop 2000 miles away that had the amps. I called that shop several times and never heard back from them. I wrote to both france and the distributor and have heard crickets. I obviously went in another direction. They seem like great products but no support makes me wonder how they stay in business

As good as this is all around it has me curious if the headphone amp is good as well? I know you didn't test it. Perhaps somebody in the comments will chime in. If it's anything close to the rest of this unit, I'm guessing some attention was paid to headphone portion as well. I have been getting more in diyaudio with pass lab kits etc and can really appreciate the power supply in this amp and those giant heatsinks on each if those mosfets! Makes you wonder what bias this amp is running. Your right, you see this sort of build at much higher prices. One last question. Thanks for your nice review of the Atoll IN200 Signature. I've had one for a few years, coupled with Dali Opticon 5 and a Mofi Ultradeck turntable. I am very happy with the result and love listening to vinyl. My IN200 Signature has an AKM4490 DAC and I also have the CD200 Signature CD player which has a Burr-Brown PCM1792 chip.
My problem is that I don't enjoy listening to my CDs and dematerialized music as much as I enjoy listening to my vinyl.
I bought a Musician Pegasus external DAC that I had to return because I had problems with the USB connection and my MacBook Pro. I liked the sound, subjectively I listened more often to my CDs (maybe a placebo effect!?!).
I am currently looking to buy another external DAC, either the Aune S8 or the Denafrips Pontus II.
Considering that you have tested the Atoll, do you think that one of these two DACs could improve my pleasure of listening to my CDs and dematerialized music?
Again, congratulations for your audiophile reviews and don't hesitate to tell me frankly what you think about them! Have a great day.

@@bloodbathory5624 IN200 has a weak bass weight? Now i'm very surprised:
I had compared different amplifiers on the same loudspeakers in mid 2023: NAD C399, Marantz pm7000n, Denon 1700NE. The Atoll in200 sig had the most pleasant, very present bass, even at low volume levels! Unbelievable. But that was necessary because the Atoll isn't scaleable in terms of the sound. Audio sample highly recommended!

It would be interesting to see how Atoll DR200 performs when pairing up with your recommended Holo Spring 2 DAC. I have contacted the UK dealer about DR200 when it’s back in stock already. It seems to me that at that price range Atoll is one of the few that offers an AES output.

I have an atoll in200 have to say I'm not impressed really. I would agree 100% on your notes about the bass it's really fast and tight . I do however find it dull and lacking transparency .
My speakers have a tendency to be a tiny bit forward to when partnered with forward sources so I don't think they are the issue as they sound very revealing with my other amps.

@@abritishaudiophile7314 not being critical of your review. Hi Fi is entirely subjective I just found to enjoy knowing there are fine details in songs that I simply didn't hear with the atoll
An example would be the faint tinkling sounds at the start of Shine on you crazy diamond. Not there with the atoll . My tube amp and my vintage Sansui and even my marantz AV amp they are clearly in the mix
Such a shame I really enjoy the very very taught bass

I just bought this amp on the strength of your review. I am very impressed with it. I'm running Bowers & Wilkins 683 S2 speakers. I tried with some Kimber 8TC speaker cables & it was a little too bright, so I tried Chord Shawline X speaker cable that I had. This is a much better combination for my ear. Tones down some of that brightness & accentuates & tightens up the bass. Thanks for your review. You really turned me on to this amp. I got the IN200 with internal DAC. Even TH-cam music sounds moving. Using Kimber USB interconnect from my desktop.

Looks very clean inside. Alot of the Hegel's integrateds look cluttered, but at the end of the day they sound good too. I have the H160 in a secondary system I'm building, and you did a great job explaining where Atoll or Hegel fit in. For the money, this is a phenomenal piece. I'll have to see if there is a US version of the IN300 to try out.

Hi Taron. Excellent review as always.
You mention that this is from a small manufacturer in France and that it packed in a lot of tech for a relatively small cost. This put me in mind of the British company Nord Acoustics. Have you ever thought about reviewing some of their kit? I have one of there large class D amps and love it, so would be really interested to know what you made of them.
    Keep up the excellent work!

Ps... I'm liking the finger ex machina thing... Not sure how long it's bee going on but I've only just noticed it. There's a simple built in human joy in watching a finger from the gods point out connections on audio equipment.
Now all you need is a knob feel rating on each product as you turn them (from one to eleven) and you'll have every single review base covered. There'll be nothing left on the table as far as information on the reviewed item goes.

    • @yyams

@Baba Ganush True. I hear the audio gods have very small hands so as to minimise fingerprints on their records and deter them from messing with things in digital display menus. The rest of them, well... Large mouths for shouting about which format is best, huge legs for lifting 50kg granite turntable bases etc, and... Well, think a humanoid T-Rex with elephant ears. That's my belief anyways. And no one can stop me!
