      @@TobysExotics correct Toby, insects need to be able to hide away to malt or they will get eaten by the other insects while there soft! Locusts and crickets love to eat each other lol!

      I remove their hind legs so they can't jump. That reduces the chances of escape and it also eliminates the noise.

    • @happybee7725
      @happybee7725 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sexygeek8996 it doesn’t eliminate noise. Them rubbing theyr legs together to make noise is a common misconception. They have little hard comb bits between theyr wings which the rub together to make noise. Legs dont come into it. Anyway the locusts i buy dont really make much if any noise atall. Pulling theyr legs off means they usually die pretty quick

    • @sexygeek8996
      @sexygeek8996 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@happybee7725 The noise I was referring to is when they hit the roof of the cage when they jump. I remove their legs by squeezing the knees and letting the grasshopper drop them on its own. Pulling them off usually rips out a chunk of flesh and that is what kills them.

    really good video, great advise i have learnt a lot. also if you want to give locusts a water source you can use cotton wool pads and a shallow water dish. All you need to do is get the cotton wool pad and wet it until it is soaking wet and then put it in the shallow water dish and everyday or every other day add a little bit of water to the water dish. i hope my advise will be useful for you and my locusts have never drowned in that way of giving them water. Once again great vid i hope you see this. Cant wait for more great vids including the green tree python!!!

    Can the acidity in orange cause problems such as gout in animals fed on feeder insects which have eaten the locusts, (I have come across similar problems in dubia roaches which have consumed orange)? Would a less acidic water source such as cucumber be suitable?

      Feel free to use any moisture containing fruit. As I said in the video I remove the locust to gutloas them properly a week before feeding using the reptile systems insect food. The orange and rabbit food is only really good as food and drink. Not so great for gutload before feeding

    This isn’t about Locust but, I am starting to raise super worms. Is it ok to place paper towels on the bottom of the container for the beetles so that when they lay their eggs I can just remove the paper towel? Or do they lay eggs in the middle of the substrate. I will also have paper egg cartons in there I will remove at some point when they breed. ALSO, how do I know when super worms are ready to pupate? I looked at the store and it said they were born a week ago, but already look full size. I tried searching safari however I can’t find any information. Thank you if you respond!
