Hey, Casey. Very late 2-year reply, but mine would be. Richard Petty. Reason. When we first moved to Sanford, N.C., back in 73, a garage was at the end of the road we lived on. My dad stopped by one day to ask the mechanic a question about his car or truck motor issue, and it just happened to be, it was none other than Richard Petty himself that owned the small one-car garage and who helped my dad that day. So, Petty became the whole family's favorite. Thanks for the question and sorry for the very late reply. Wayne
GREAT VIDEO! I'm currently replacing my neighbors 97 taurus radiator, exactly same as yours. Last night daughter called from side of road with her car radiator leaking, Now I have two radiators to replace. I'm 68 and have to work in the dirt. Thinking about selling all my damn tools so I won't have to do this anymore.
I found that removing the plastic grille with the Ford emblem was very helpful to getting the new rad installed bc it allowed me to manipulate the condenser coils out of the way up top.
I've been working on machinery of all types for over 50 years. Some of it considered very complicated. These new vehicles are getting unnecessarily complicated and difficult to wok on. The Taurus especially the DOHC is included. Thanks for your instructions.
I do pretty much do all of my own repairs. Great video, I just finished on my daughters 2002 Taurus. The biggest pain in the ass was removing the transmissions lines.
Thank you. This is the best video out on TH-cam right now. I have a 2004 DOHC Taurus and a 2007 Ford Taurus. So I appreciate your time and effort and hopefully others watch your excellent video even though you had some bad luck with cameras.
Block and radiator sealers might get you home but the leak needs to be fixed when back home and the radiator needs to be flushed out 6 ways from Sunday to avoid over heating the engine later. I had put put block sealer in my 2000 Ford Windstar because of a blown head gasket. And it worked great for a while but then one vacation in July 4. We had a trip from hell with over heating. In a 250 mile trip I stopped at least 7 times with half my coolant boiled out. Nothing to do but let it cool off and fill it back up with water and go again. Every time I passed a creek I filled up my jugs if they weren't filled already. There were 7 of us in the van with a luggage rack on top. So we definitely had a load The next to the last over heat was right down town Atlanta on I 75 on top of a bridge near Grady Memorial Hospital. It was 95 degrees and hot as hell. I got home and blasted that radiator from every direction with water and compressed air. Never had an issue with that again. I always watch those temps when climbing mountains though and will never forget the trip from hell.
Thank you so much for making this video. You're a life saver. My radiator went out in my 2003 Taurus. My Haynes is very vague on how to do it. Couldn't have done it without this.
I really enjoyed doing this project. I have to take the rotors off next and have them turned. It feels like a jackhammer at times when you press on the brakes. Hopefully, it is will goes as smooth as the radiator replacement did. And yeah, sometimes I do not like doing long video's. However, sometimes you have too.
at 10:52 those "clamps" you talk about are actually referred to as "nut plates." Just for future reference. AT 13:48, might I recommend a second man, up top who reaches in and guides it into position while the man underneath inserts the radiator.
Wow, amazing that you did this alone. I just completed this with another guy that I hired to help me. It took us 2.15 hours. I thought it was a monster. Only because we did it with jack stands vs auto lift.
I had mine sitting on car ramps. No auto lift here, unfortunately. But, it was not a big deal. I actually enjoyed doing it. Just wish I would have had better camera positions. Maybe, if I had someone actually holding the camera for me, I would have been a lot happier.
I have an 01 DOHC as well. Did you add transmission fluid? I have an overheating problem and I think it is the radiator. I have replaced the thermostat and that did not help.
After starting about 10 videos (not worth finishing) luckily I found yours. I don't think I'll tackle this one but at least it gives me an estimate of how long a mechanic with all the proper tools will need to get the job done. It was much easier to replace a radiator on my old Ford Pinto. On a personal note, you can work on my car anytime! LOL
Thank you very much for the compliment. If your car was local, I would tackle the job for you. I have an 81 Firebird, and swapping the Radiator on it, takes about 10 minutes. The higher up in years that the car's get, the more complex they make them to work on. Creating a headache for not only the backyard mechanic but for the trained professionals as well. Take care Beth. Wayne
Thermostat. Check all hoses, make sure they are good. Fill Tank cap, make sure it is still good. (Purchase through the Ford Dealership, NOWHERE ELSE) Heater Core, make sure it is still good. (This job is a PAIN IN THE A**) Get a jug of pure Anti-freeze (not 50/50), pour that into the new radiator, and then top it off with another jug of water, preferably store bought water. I replaced my Heater Hoses against the firewall as well. I have a video on how to take everything apart to get to that area, just did not do one on actually replacing the hoses. I will edit and upload the video soon, and post it here.
I was thinking it might help get to those front bracket bolts for the AC condenser. I have an 01 Taurus SE that is leaking from the radiator so I found this video to see what I was in for since I saw you can't just get the radiator out from the top like a normal car.
I have a 2001 Ford Taurus SES and I'm having to put antifreeze in my car almost every other day. just had my water pump put in plus the hose that's connect to the coolant reservoir and the radiator they both had a hole in them.
your video was very helpful thank you for this. It was a struggle getting that plastic piece out, but I got it. I have a question. that metal clip that was on the transmission line that held it in do you know what it call exactly? my bottom one won't stay on & the line comes out
By looking at mine I figured this job is gonna suck good info nice too be able to see on vid before attempt to start. Also wonder if a Quick connect for fuel filters would work if I have a set?
Yep. After replacing the radiator, I had to replace the Heater Core. (To aggravating to record that one) When you replace the radiator, replace the Thermostat as well. Get a jug of pure Anti-freeze, pour that into the new radiator, and then top it off with another jug of water, preferably store bought water. Good Luck Wayne
Quick question ... Where did you order your quick disconnect brass nut pieces from? Apparantly we will have to do the same because our radiator we actually paid $51.48 flat rate for actually has what every other radiator on the planet has and that's the one that screw on from the trans side lol. But we need the quick disconnect too. Home Depot? Lowes?
Good question. I looked back at the video, and at the part where I deal with the lines, is @20:39 I just cannot remember. If I had someone else holding the camera for me, it would have been great. But, that was not the case here. Sorry.

These transmission lines are a royal PITA. I can't get the lines back into the "quick connect". Is there some secret, or tool, that's needed to get these #*&king things back in?
@19:34 It is a pain, but you should be able to do it. Hopefully, since it has been 21 hours since you posted, you should have already completed this job. Hopefully.
I gave up. I was afraid that I would damage the new radiator because I was so pissed off. No matter what I did, those $%&king tubes would not go all the way in the "quick connects". My local repair shop had their way with me (I won't be able to walk right for at least a week) They had quoted $475 to replace the radiator. After I furnished and installed all the parts, and only needed the tranny tubes and water pump hose connected, the MFer charged me $350!!!! Thanks for the reply, and thanks again for the video.
Those heater hoses aren't the easiest thing to change either because of the lack of room to move around in there, but it's not the hardest either. Those heater hoses tend to rust. I am currently trying to replace the radiator on a 01 Ford taurus but I'm having a hard time getting the little plastic piece out from around the upper transmission hose. I've been prying at it with a screw driver for about 30 minutes
