      @@rolfs2165 they stumbled upon a happy mixture of excellent gameplay mechanics inside a suitable time period. Now they're stuck trying to regain that high without pausing to consider whether or not other time periods might actually play into the premise equally well without needing the exact same format.

      He was wrong about sailing being a one off. Actually it's integration in Odyssey made all sorts of gameplay AND narrative sense, since the classical Greeks we're renowned for their nautical prowess. Plus, I get mad Ben-Hur vibes whenever the rowing motivator guy yells out "RAMMIIIIIIING SPEEEEEEED!"

    I wonder if AC is at some point going to reenact that scene from space balls:
    "What we're seeing here is happening now."
    "Now? What do you mean now?"
    "What we're watching has caught up to the now. Everything is happening now."
    "Now?"
    "No."
    "Why not?"
    "Because it's over. Everything that happens now happens now."
    "When will the then become the now?"
    "... Soon."
    "....... How soon?"

      I don't know how your quote exactly would fit, but I was talking about how AC is now nearing todays time, so that we will ultimately have catched up with the seperate plot happening now.

      The Scandinavians would probably see some use in some covert troops able to infiltrate a castle and lifting a gate so they can pillage and destroy another city, or just pillage a little, the pillaging was actually so they could jumpstart the trade empire that they eventually went into that made them much richer and happier than all the "conquering"

    I'd like to see an Assassin's Creed game set in WWI... just hear me out.
    World War 1 began because of an assassination of an important dignitary, and the overreaction to said assassination... perhaps there was some whispering going on in the conference rooms...
    Also, WWI isn't very well-documented on the fronts, apart from things like soldiers' journals (in which some guy in a menacing hood could easily prevent himself from being written about) and officer reports that could be summed up in "Took German Trench 123. Casualties: **,*** men lost." And they only got a chance to storm trenches if the enemy was either shelled into submission or distracted, by for example a hooded guy stabbing officers.
    So maybe, the war started because the Arch Bishop who was assassinated was actually a Templar Grandmaster, and the Assassin sent to kill him took a newbie or something who just shot up the car, then Templars in European governmets started telling people to start a war, and so WWI begins. It's subtle, and if done right, there would be no record of Assassin or Templar involvement at all.
    C'mon, it'd be awesome to charge a tank and storm trenches. Maybe even fly a plane (as combat aircraft started to become pretty major around the middle of the war).

    • @SonofTiamat
      @SonofTiamat 9 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      That sounds pretty cool, I'm just not sure how guns would figure into the gameplay. In AssCreed IV they were slow enough to reload that they weren't broken. If you had two M1911s it just might be end game for the swarms of enemies.

    • @imanoob221

      That's a great idea but they actually said during AC4 that they want to stay away from modern history in one of the data files that you hack. I can't remember exactly but it was something to do with the animus not yet being able to fully run large gun fights. Of course that's all in game because out of the animus you're working for a games company.

      Killing Bandit True, Arno's involvement in the conflict closely mirrors Ezio's own, stemming from venegance and a sense of justice. Edward's just in it for the money most of the game :)
      My issue with Unity (based on what I've seen, I haven't played it), is that it looks clumsy. That auto-scaffolding, the movesets, etc, they look like they aimed too high on the realism mark and gave up halfway.
      That and the fact that everything is "this is super-hard to obtain in-game but super-easy to obtain with you credit card".

    I really, really hope Ubisoft will start to shy away from the annual release "thing" that they're doing. A year is simply not enough time to properly develop a game, but Ass Creed IV proved me (partially) wrong. The series should most likely take a break for at least a couple years before Ubisoft tasers it again with another sequel. I can almost guarantee that Assassin's Creed V will be announced at E3 2014, and if it is, I'll probably be a little pissed.

    *There should be an Assassin's Creed Rio de Janeiro. Seriously, let me explain:*
    As you can guess, I'm brazilian, I know my fair share of brazilian history. Shortly after the country aquired its independence, Brazil was run by the some corrupt republican assholes, who controlled the country because they held the only product profitable to the economy: coffee. Not only that, they had a complex system to manipulate elections, with rural militas and nepotism.
    After the Great Depression, coffee wasn't worth shit, so the country spiraled into a crysis. Not only the general population was pissed, but the elite too. A coup d'état was orchestrated, and a dictator called Getúlio Vargas came to rule the country. He was really intelligent, managing to save the economy, industrializing it in the process, inspired by Franklin Roosevelt's management. He was also loved by the masses, having a lot of populist policies, even being called "father of the poor". The catch? He was even more of a corrupt fuck than his predecessors, dabling with fascism and nazis. Hitler was a close ally to him, Getúlio's sole reason of not joinning him in WW2 was fear of the US.
    Eventually, he, in a very clever plan, abdicated his dictator role and declared Brazil a republic once again, being elected and ruling as a president for years to come. The part that gets really interesing: he commited "suicide". Everyone know he was murdered, but no one ever managed to prove it. There was actually a suicide note, probably not written by himself. It read "I leave life to enter history".
    Tell me that doesn't sound like Assassin's Creed? A pseudo nazi dictator who controlled the masses? That's totally Templar business. A secret assassination? Sounds like Altair had a hand in it. The architecture of the favelas in Rio, contrasting the rich elite buildings would be pretty cool to climb too, not to mention the beautiful scenery behind it all.

    • @Leo-pw3kf
      @Leo-pw3kf 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Poseidon you probably wouldn't be kiling nazis in the hypothetical game. Getúlio sympathized with Hitller, being a dictator and all, but ultimately ended up striking up an agreement with the US to join the war with the Allies in exchange of investments. Tasty investments, US needed Brazil at its side in the war, believe it or not.

      Rogue is somehow far better
      I don't understand how the normal on foot main story mission are great and actualy fun
      The ship battles are twice better than AC 4's and far more harder
      The lengendary ships are perfect and super hard
      And it's pretty replayable than AC4's crippling trailing missions
      the normal abstergo company missions are shit but gladly quick and straight forward so the pacing of the game doesn't die entirely

    Being halfway through the story-missions, I totaly agree with Yahtzee on this game.
    Sailing around exploring stuff is fun, the story-missions are generaly not. Specialy when they are pretty much tutorials for side-missions that I have already done several times.
    And the Asscreed freerunning mechanic is as inffuriating as he says. Either you jump off in a direction you didnt intend, or (when chasing someone) you end up doing a strange mating dance against an unclimbable object.

      To be honest, Assassin's Creed _never_ needed the sci-fi, 2012 doomsday subplot, if anything it hindered the potential of the series, since they had to somehow make sense as to why Desmond kept reliving memories, to the point Connor in AC3 basically had no purpose in his life other than to finally wrap up things in the future.

    With everyone giving Assassin's Creed suggestions for different eras and places, let me mix it up with this:
    There should be a Sniper Elite game set in the Winter War, where you play as Simo Häyhä. I mean, it's like the game was made for that set up, you put up ambushes for the enemy tanks and such and then you snipe the shit out of them when they run around all confused as to how the enemy could possible know that they were going to use this road even though it is the only bloody road on this side of the bloody country.

The seven years war may not be as exciting as the golden age of piracy, but playing as a Templar is incredibly refreshing, the story is better than almost every other AC game, and the land segments don't suck. I've said it a thousand times and i'll say it again, make an assassins creed game in japan with samurai and ninjas and stuff. it would give ubisoft an opportunity to update the combat mechanics without making it feel out of place. nothing would be cooler than slicing up motherfuckers with dual katanas. maybe take a page out of the batman arkham games or shadow of mordor for the combat.

      As much as I want that too, I actually hope they wait on that. Reason is, I want it to be one really good fucking game and not AC 3 with a new coat of paint. Let Ubisoft cover different time periods and make different stories so they can see what they should do and what they shouldn't do, and then release a Japan one. Think about it. As shitty as some of the recent AC games have been, do you really want that in the Japan setting that we all want?

      Eavesdropping and tailing missions need a major revamp. There were far too many of them in ac4 and the whole mechanic is just crap. Why you can't just pay the hookers to follow someone or better still have a crew member do it and then tell you what they said afterwards is beyond me. Oh right, because that would make them easier and probably drop the play time by a few hours from not failing every time one of the thousand random ass guards turns around and sees you.

      THANK YOU when will ubisoft realise this is the perfect setting, spend another 2 years on AC5 and make a trilogy out of it like Ezio's, The possibilities in an Asian fuedal setting are endless and the characters would be so awesome. The wide range of locations from jungle to mountains to dense cities would be mind-blowing and as long as there's a solid protagonist with a storyline that holds up it will be the game of the series (imo AC2 is the best by a long way, so far).

      No less ridiculous than George Washington having an ancient artifact from the first civilization of Earth, that predated mankind.
      The story was always ridiculous. Could have Japan as one of the areas that the Assassins were able to isolate and protect. Make Kublai Khan a Templar trying to invade, they used an Eden artifact to make the kamikaze winds blow.
      This is workable, comrade.

      Just some info about this. In Freedom Cry, Adewale was given firecrackers, this could be a hint for something like this. I highly doubt they added it for a couple-hour expansion. Also, at the end, let's just say that a box given to a character looks exactly like the one that was given to the Chinese assassin in Assassins Creed: Embers. Sounds like conspiracy theorist crap but that's kind of what the developers want to be honest :P.

      I always wanted Ancient Rome! The shields from that time could bring an interesting twist to the combat, and if the writers play it right, you could be fighting both romans AND barbarians from the north. Plus, GLADIATORS. The density of cities from that time would be great for free running, and there is no end to the political situations AC: Roma could build upon.

    Y'know, I think I'm gonna get this one. If the sailing and Errol Flynn-ing is at the forefront then I think I would really like this game. After all, ever since Assassin's creed 2, these games seem to devote a lot of time into making the player hoard wealth, which is exactly what pirates are supposed to do! Besides, as far as games go, the ninjas and the cowboys have had their fun so it's about time we got a new pirate game.

    • @demonhoopa
      @demonhoopa 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The game is pretty good if you ignore the tired Assasin/Templar garbage and just focus primarily on pirating. What Yahtzee said about money (along with loot/supplies/hunting) really meaning something is spot on and drives the whole game. You can sail for hours exploring islands, hunting sharks/whales and attacking/looting/aquiring ships because besides being really fun and immersive, there's actually a POINT to it. The downside of the sailing pirating being so damn immersive is I catch myself saying "AARRRG" quite a bit. Needless to say the wife and kids think I've lost it. Tip: There's a "Captain Morgan" outfit you can get that is a classic pirate getup. Losing that ridiculously out of place (and tired) white hood is a nice cherry on top for the pirating.

    He's right. Ubisoft will never stop making Assassin's Creed as long as they continue to be as successful as they are. Assassin's Creed is the COD of 3rd person action games. And it's just as douchey and unbelievably popular

    • @Captain_Marvelous
      @Captain_Marvelous 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Assassin's Creed isn't as bad as COD at all. While COD can only show off graphical improvements and a dog, Assassin's Creed actually makes changes from one game to the next. From AC, to AC2, 3, and now 4 there have been some very clear improvements.

      If you're saying it's the "cod of third person action games" I'm assuming you're referring to it's popularity. Yes it is a mainstream game at this point but there are not many games like it. There are countless modern shooter but not that many historical, open world assassin games that involve freerunning over buildings, sailing, amazing combat and generally good characters (except Ezio in AC2).

      ...With similar gameplay seen in inFamous, [Prototype], and the Arkham Series. All of these games do have a secret conspiracy by a small group(Batman's just borrowed from the comics), running around on rooftop, having an enhanced sense(Radar pulse, Infected vision, and Detective Mode respectively), and the main character using various skills and gadgets he unlocks as the story progresses. While they don't all have the same description, they utilize the same elements. There are games that to a degree copy it, it just isn't as blatant as Battlefield 3 or more recent Medal of Honor games. Just my two cents worth.

Every game has it's flaws, but when the pacing is ruined so much by one particular thing it really makes all the other flaws stand out. I think many more people would have liked it if they had managed to do a better job reducing/eliminating loading screen time/occurrence

It just feels like the gaming community nowadays feels the need to pick on certain games for making multiple ones, yet many people would gladly bleed through the anus for more of the games they like, maybe half life 3 for example :/ i just don't get why people just don't play or talk about the games they don't like :') still yahtzee your videos are awesome and I look forward to the next haha

      Blame the spamming of sequels on the mainstream popularity of Assassin's Creed. The consumers, and thus the publishers, are kinda turning it into CoD if you ask me. Obligatory sequel after obligatory sequel.

    • @gleipnirrr
      @gleipnirrr 10 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      I agree, there shouldn't be hate just because they are launching a series. The problem lies with the fact they are rushing them out every year so fast that they turn out to be shallow with boring content. Look at call of dooty, for that matter. It started out as a great franchise, but after modern warfare 3, it was milked to death with it now being shallow bullshit but with a catchy multiplayer. I'm just hoping that black flag isn't teh beacon that will never shine again, like black ops 2 was.

      That's what people are doing with CoD: Ghosts; besides the utter racism, they fixed everything that was wrong with MW3, mainly the immense lag, but I've literally read comments from angry people, saying, "THIS CAMPAIGN HAD A CLIFFHANGER!!! SCREW CALL OF DUTY; THEY WANT TO MILK THIS SERIES!!!," with quite too many swears than necessary to try and point out any possible thing that could be wrong with it.

      Mr Grumpyface It is if you simply want more polished Black Flag. It is not if you want modern day story or even decent main story. Rogues title should have been Assassins Creed: Failure to communicate since that is pretty much the only reason why Shay runs away and eventually joins templars. He is also a hypocrite and an unlikable character overall, he does have more personality than Connor though. But the writing seems to want to force you to like templars, by which I mean if the story would be a person and was talking to you it would say something like this "Here look at all these nice templar guys, they aren't nice just because they know you are an ex-assassin and probably want to recruit you Oh no! They are always this nice and you have no reason to doubt it and look all the shady things assassins do, they are so bad, okay nothing to see here anymore continue doing missions for this charismatic templar guy because he is nice ^_^" /runs off before you can ask any questions/

      krish698 in assassins creed 3 they gave some depth to the templars
      They were no longer grasping for control
      They changed to leading
      And all the assassins though was killing templars just because they're templars

    • @obrayb

      krish698 Rogue showed how bad each faction can get, the assassins went out of their way, even nearly destroying a WHOLE FUCKIN' TOWN. To take over a fort, and get a fuckin' manuscript.
      Shay left for a good reason.
      I'm not saying Rogue is a Good game, it really in't, it's...ok.
      The story is bad, but it shows how bad each faction can be.

      +Mr Grumpyface It's just more of the same for better or worse. I still enjoy it but it's a mixed bag. For one thing they did get rid of the stupid tailing missions which is a plus. The game also feels less punishing for making slight mistakes. On the other hand, the counter-assassin thing wears out its welcome quickly. You won't be able to walk five steps down New York without having to kill some bitch hiding in almost plain sight; and my god the Assassin Interception missions are so frustratingly unforgiving and easily the worst part! Another funny thing is that it's piss easy to make money. You invest in renovations which somehow make contributions to your income. The only point to doing all of them is to unlock an item, but by then you'll have bought every singe item and still have a shit ton of money with nothing to spend it on. I just started throwing coins at strangers for fun. Oh for a charity to alleviate the ennui of excessive wealth!
