    Hey guys, here we have a look at how to spot a fake Casio F91W as they are getting scary good.
    Edit - the reason I didn't show the screen is because both fakes show CASIo when tried so that is no longer the best way to spot a fake. Hope that clears things up.

    • @amoledzeppelin
      @amoledzeppelin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It may be no longer the best way but still one of them. I.e. if it does show CASIo, it might be genuine and might be fake, but if it doesn't, it's clearly a fake.

      @@meizuc9504 You miss the point. $12 USD is, in many parts of the world, a day's pay or a week's pay. These fakes can be purchased for less than $1, and are practically the same watch. A fake F-91W doesn't make sense to anyone in the US or Europe, but it makes all the sense to people in rural India or Africa.

    The most annoying thing with this situation is the fact most people who buy fake luxury watches know what they're buying, and are intentionally buying a fake watch. But nobody is intentionally wanting a fake Casio that's costs a tenner, so to pay the tenner and get shafted with a fake is annoying af.

      Not to mention the fact that it may cost Casio sales, when people buy these unknowingly, unlike how for example a fake Rolex sold might be for Rolex since people getting those often know what they are getting and wasn't planning on getting the real deal.

      Yep, this watch is very popular. Anyone who's getting into digital watches, casio or g-shocks has a huge chance of picking up an F-91W just because. These fakers can sell their product without spending a dime on marketing, being a parasite piggybacking off of casio's well earned reputation. Anyone buying a 700 dollar fake Rolex wasn't gonna buy a real Rolex with that money anyway.

    If you’ve owned and handled a real F91w for a reasonable period of time, it’s fairly easy to tell the genuine article from many fakes. The faux 91s in this video didn’t fool me. Your mind picks up nuances very quickly once you become familiar handling something. It’s amazing how much detail we can pick up consciously and subconsciously. It’s also astounding how bad the quality is on many fakes when you look at them closely. Thank you for taking the ti e to make this interesting content.

    I have a F91w from year 98 or 99, still with its original battery, up and running. I don't know if it is fake, doesn't show where it's made on the back, also doesn't display CASIo by holding the right button. But it's pretty accurate. Maybe such older variants didn't have these button features. I think it's genuine.

      The software watermark "CASI0" was introduced in the year 2000 so your model is perfectly fine. Furthermore, in those years was way more complex to introduce chinese counterfeits (especially considering that in '98 and '99 online shopping was de facto non-existent). Treasure your wristwatch, it's an original one for sure!

The fake one on the left seem to use the same type of combined head type screw as the genuine one though, although a bit larger.

    I have a fake F-91W somewhere. Someone gave it to me and it didn't even work when I got it, so I can't say how well the module itself holds up to the real deal. But the case and printed detailing is pretty nice compared to my genuine F-91W. And to be fair, it doesn't have "CASIO" printed on it so it at least isn't claiming to be a genuine CASIO.
    Point is, they're pretty accurate. For such a cheap watch anyway, it's a bit annoying that there are fake versions of the F-91W.
