- I have a surprise visit from one of my subscribers. David Horobin flys out of Biggin Hill in a DR500 and we compare this with the D9 which was the original, and baby of the fleet.

Great video Tim. And the Robin was a real beauty. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Kevin. David and I are planning a longer flight when I can set up cameras and sound recording.
Great little film Tim, that Garmin in the Robin looks a nice bit of kit.
Thanks Chris. That the the autopilot were very nice!
super ich liebe das flugzeug
That was a nice little look inside a Robin and a good example of the pleasantness of aviators. In fact that's one of the attractions of this channel, just some blokes quietly enjoying aviation.
Thank you for the comment. It very much sums up my aim for this channel.
Thanks for the video. Have you visited Easton Maudit (between Cranfield and Sywell)? It's where our 1050 should be based (and will be again when it's finally back together). I'm sure you'd get a warm welcome from Tim (the farmer and original syndicate member) and I'd be interested in your assessment of the relative slope of the strip - though it's probably less as we do take off uphill if the tailwind would be greater than about 10kts. Could make an interesting outing once you have your tailwheel back.
As soon as I get back in the air I will make sure that I visit and compare the slope. It would not be possible to take off from the bottom of the hill at Nayland, although I once had to throw a landing away at the last moment.
Wow that DR500 is a beauty inside and out Tim. I'd love to try 'the hill' sometime. Hopefully I'll be able to get a group together at some stage which will allow me to go further afield. It's amazing how good the iphone video is too.
Yes, I am pleased with the quality of video from the phone. The DR500 is a very nice machine and is well equipped. If you find yourself in this neck of the woods PM me and I will fly you off the hill in the Jodel. Good luck to Lizi for tomorrow!
Jodel Flyer thank you - she’s nervous but excited. She’s well prepared so I’m confident the race will go well. As for the Hill, that would be awesome, thanks. 👍
Please let John know I have ordered some of that Demon Shine to try out on my Luscombe.
I hope it works for you. As you saw, I wash the aircraft, rinse and then spray a fine coat of Demon Shine on before I dry off with micro fibre cloths.
Enjoying your videos, thanks! I’m in the process of getting my PPL current again after several years without flying. I’m looking into buying an aircraft (used to have a Cessna 150)... just wondered what your average annual running costs were with your Jodel? Cheers from France (a Norwich-born lad).
Replying from another Norwich born lad! If you want to email me Mark, I will provide you with my running costs - thejodelflyer@gmail.com
