Need help; EMAX Nano 12A v2 are BLHeli supported SiLabs ESCs, but once I connect them it recognizes I have 4 ESCs, but it gives "- - - -" on the promp page for each ESC and then when I try to select an individual ESC it gives me a "?" in the middle of the box.
Also, I learned the hard way that failsafe needs to be disabled when connecting to BLHeli suite; guys be careful and if possible take the props off while playing with this, failsafe will engage once the FC looses connection with the BLHeli suite software...
So this doesnt work directly with Cleanflight?
Can you flash back to CF after you flash the ESCs?
Do you know if this method will work on the Nighthawk 280 pro AIO board?
a bit confusing with read set up to write it... then write it to really write it...then with the orange esc's being reversed and then re reversing them with a master... i'm a bit lost here .. its best to show the simplest step by step with a clear goal, then afterwards you can add in the special functions like multiple reversing, but as it stands i'm not sure what the hell just happened, you seemed to describe the set up that was already there as the goal, then went on to play with suites abilities and arrived at a new goal?...
I have a Turnigy Multistar Esc 40a opto v2 , i tried to plug it inside a multistar usb programmer and upgrade its firmware on BLHeli , the Esc was identified as 20a in BL heli so i chose to Flash Firmware and i chose the Multistar 40a which exactly the name of my esc , when i finished, i pluged it back into my multirotor , BUT SUDDENLY THE MOTOR FRIED AND THE ESC START MAKING SMOKE !! What can be the Problem ?? what did i do wrong ??
Is possible to use this method to flash RG20 esc also? So I dont have to buy their usb programmer. Thanks
when i do this after i read the esc' it says the interface connected successfully but then it says connection to esc 1 failed! please check data-und power-connections to the esc. what does this mean and what should i do ?
I tried this yesterday, and my escs aren't able to connect. apparently I've been sent the wrong bootloaders. I hope simonk will be supported in the future

I've had betaflight for a long time now but didn't realize it was so easy to flash. does this work on SiLabs esc's too like the little bee? it would seem Amstel and SiLabs require different programmers. this method would solve that problem entirely.
+Kabab Yep should work on any ESC with the BLHeli boot loader installed. This video was made using Zeus/Little Bee ESC's on the quad.

So I'm trying to do this, I see the multi ESC boxes at the bottom but when I click 'check', the ESC's jingle and it comes up with nothing. If I try to click on 1 and hit read setup it just jingles forever without connecting...? Little help?

Also I wonder if those are BLHeli bootloader or SimonK bootloader. If they have SimonK it won't work.

which of the 2 blheli suite should I get on the link?
Have been searching high and low and cant find the answer... Do you need both the signal AND ground connected from the ESC to the FC or just the signal? I hate having both ran to the FC and want to know if i can desoldering the little ground in the twisted pair.

Hi, im trying to flash my esc, but it wont read the setup, it will fail every time error 5 it comes up, acces denied. and when i read setup the 4 esc show no info, just dashed lines, as if there was no firmware at all on esc, how do i install firmware at first?
Hi... I have a Naze32 and a set of FVT Little Bee ESCs (running Silabs chips) coming for my next QAV250 build.
According to your video, it seems I don't need to purchase a separate ESC programmer dongle to flash & config the ESCs using BLheli.
Is that correct?
That is correct. The FC now acts as a pass through programmer for the ESC's.

I can't connect. Using the latest Bl heli (same as in this video) and the same version of cf. When I try to connect it says 'initialization of serial 1 wire pass through failed. Please check fc revision to support serial 1 one pass through' not sure what it means or how to correct it...

+wolfes1126 There is a similar procedure for CC3D but it involves putting a FTDI adapter into one of the main ports. The manual tells how to do it but I don't have any CC3D controllers so I can not show it.
do you need connect it by a usb linker or only throw the naze o others fllight-controllers?
Just the flight controller.. The flight control has a pass through and acts as the usb linker.

Do we need the ground connected also to the Naze32 from the ESC in order for this to work? or can we just have the signal wire connected?
+Jon Car You just need to connect a ground, the ground is common throughout the system so you don't have to have it on each specific ESC..

+David Mashiah Any ground point will work.. All the grounds are connected together so it doesn't matter where you put the ground side, it can be on a ESC negative lead, or battery ground lead or solder point, or at the FC on the negative pin doesn't matter as long as the ground side is connected to a ground.
Can I ask, are you saying that the ground for the signal wire and the ground for the power wire, for the esc's, are common? I thought they ran a separate closed loop.

when i connect to pc and open blhelisuite and connect...
it says connection to esc failed!
and says check data and power connection to the esc!

You have to power up the ESC's.
can this be done with spracing f3 fc?

Got it connected (had the wrong cf fw) but when I click check in blheli, the box pops up with esc's one to six but the esc configuration spaces are blank?!
+mrmurder75 If you have a OSD connected that will keep it from working. Just disconnect your OSD from the flight controller while flashing the ESC's and it should work.
+ModifiedRC don't have an osd. Gave up in the end, I'll just do them the old fashioned way when I need to! Maybe I'll come back to it when I'm feeling more patient and have another crack at it. Thanks for your help.
+mrmurder75 I think my issue is I have blheli fw but a Simonk bootloader. (12a self flashed blue series esc's) short of pulling them from the quad and reflashing the atmel chip I don't know of another way to change the bootloader. Having only just finished the build in not that inclined to take it apart again. Next set I flash I will be sure to use the blheli Bl though.
+mrmurder75 mind you, if I flash blheli myself anyway (the old fashioned way) that kinda negates my need to use pass through anyway?! I don't know, I've confused myself now. Need sleep lol

I wondered the same thing. I even flashed the latest CF as a test before I made this video to make sure it had not been recently added.

+michael lee What ESC's are you trying to flash? Gotta watch out for some ESC's that have BLHeli firmware but not the bootloader. DYS are one of these that run the firmware but not the bootloader.

This Clean Flight/Beta Flight method will not work on ESC's with SimonK bootloader. Your USB Linker will work just fine.
+ModifiedRC finally got bl heli onto my 12a simonk blue series esc's. for those having issues like i did, the turnigy linker should work, however, for some reason my computer was not reading the esc's, long story short, i had 25+ important updates available on my pc running windows 7. once i updated, it was like butter, all good now. thx for all your help, support, etc...
all my numbers are gray. when i try to "read setup", i get a " please connect esc and power up ( cycle power )"

+DeadmiXSoft As far as we have been able to determine the DYS ESC's all come with SimonK bootloader even on the BLHeli versions. If the ones you have are SN20a then those definitely have SimonK bootloader and will not work with this since it relies on having BLHeli bootloader.

+DeadmiXSoft Yep otherwise you would have to use a ISP programmer like a USBASP and solder to the pads and then you can flash it with BLHeli bootloader, then once you have done that then it will work. But the key is to have BLHeli bootloader on the ESC already.
