  • Here's the list of SUV to avoid in 2022 and beyond, as these are some of the top unreliable SUVs I've found today. As the thumbnail suggests, I don't think these SUVs are going to last and you should probably avoid them unless you're looking to throw away your car after a few years.
As always, this is the advice I can give for you to keep your money so you can drive a fun, exciting car (or SUV in this case)!

The excuse, week after week, month after month, was that the couldn’t get approval from Hyundai Customer Care. Only after getting an attorney involved, did they finally take the car back. During that time, they didn’t give me a loaner vehicle. I spent over $16,000 for 1 1/2 years of rental car expenses. I was expecting full reimbursement, but they only reimbursed $4000. What a scam! When your CVT transmission starts to rev up too much for your speed, that is not, and I repeat, that is not the transmission. It is the transmission fluid, specifically ns-3. Drain the fluid out by removing the plug in the transmission, no need to drop the pan. There is a separate external filter you should change as well. After draining, replace with same amount. You CVT will now work correctly, however, you are not done yet. Drive for about 2 weeks and change the fluid again (not the external filter). You are now good for another 40k before you need to repeat this process. I've done this twice now, CVT running super smooth/responsive at 146k. People are being told their CVT is bad and that is a blatant ripoff.

I’m thinking all vws are just as bad. Had a girl trade a beatle in one time the car converter was bad. She traded it in cause the repair was like over 1400.

My 2016 BMW X5 xDrive diesel has been a money pit. By 75000 miles I had experienced clogged moonroof drains, bad front struts, cracked oil filter housing, and a trashed rear differential. Spent $10k in repairs/non-routine maintenance in last year. Going to try to hang on for another year before I get rid of it. Only plus is that I found a great independent mechanic who specializes in European brands.

I sold cars for 10 years and heard so many horror stories of repair bills on bmws. One couple told me their timing chain went out and was told it would be 7 grand to fix! BMWs are hard to fix and they use a lot of plastic engine parts. Sad thing is back in the day they made really good cars.

Honestly the repair I mentioned above is nothing. The car works well during winter months and with all wheel drives system. AC system works great too. My suggestion is.. bring to your own mechanic. Don’t bring to dealer for service. Dealer service department is there to make money..not to save you money. Would I buy Volkswagen again? Yes! We just bought Volkswagen TAOS 2022 for our daughter.

Wait, What? The new 2022/2023 Pathfinder/QX60 Have a new 3.5 V6 with a 9-speed auto. I do agree with you though in that even though they had some issues I see The older Pathfinders for sale with 175k miles on them........That right there tells you that can't be that un-realible. I still see more first gen INFINITI FX35's/G35's driving around with well over 150k miles on them. I see more of those still on the road over any older Nissan/INFINITI Vehicle Period. The Pathfinder has a slightly de-tuned version of this newer 3.5 V6. The 2022 INFINITI QX60 is what you want to buy. I'm looking at buying one now. It's a N/A V6 Engine that produces 295hp and 270lbs of torque with an absolutely gorgeous exterior and interior!! Rear reclining captains seats and in the base model with AWD and you can still get an analog speedometer which I love because I'm old school. The base model without the added AWD is Front Wheel Drive which is a no go for most enthusiasts like me. The new INFINITI QX60 although slightly more expensive than the pathfinder is more refined and looking to be a great daily driver!! I just called my local INFINITI Dealership to get some info and I told him I havn't seen any new QX60's driving around, not even one personally. He said that's because INFINITI wasn't able to make near as many as they normally would have for a new vehicle because of the global pandemic. Therfore, They never got many and only have 3 in stock right now. He also said most of what they did get where the top trim levels which are 64k-67k. I've only seen a few new Pathfinders as well. The Million Million Nissan Frontier Truck and the highest milage Nissan's ever recorded all have N/A 4/6 Cylinder Engines. The problem with any of the VQ Nissan/Infiniti SUV's made in the past all had shitty suspension setups which made them all ride like crap.

After my experience, I’ve discovered it’s not the manifold itself that’s triggering the computer. It’s actually the sensors attached to manifold. These sensors are plastic and breaks down with the heat. The manifold itself is plastic but it’s essentially a block with air flappers. In my case, flappers were fine and no cracks in the manifold. Which lead me to believe it was the sensors, fuel rail, etc that’s attached to the manifold that’s causing the computer to give out an error.

This especially bothers me because I was taking a very serious look at replacing my current car with an MK8 GTI.
In almost every way, it would be perfect for me. But I keep my cars for many long years before replacing them. And I know one thing.... VW is consistent with making unreliable cars that either don't last or will cost far too much money to repair. Sooo frustrating.

Back in June 2022 I had a rental 2021 Toyota RAV4 after I wrecked my car and at first it was fine however things started acting up on me. First the front passenger seat back broke and was tilted left shoulder further back. Then the seatbelt jammed making it impossible to buckle. Then a week later a light started flashing on the dash and I lost all power. Called the rental agent who I was dealing with and he traded me out for a 2019 Ford which was absolutely fine the rest of the time my car was being worked on. So in my experience it really doesn’t matter what you drive it’s how you take care of it. Now I have an Alfa Romeo Stelvio and I have no trouble with it.

I have (now) Stellantis products for ages (we have 3…two Jeeps and a 500x) two of them for more then 3 years and all (really) trouble free. Ok, we’re in Europe, and there are differences in engines , but I just don’t understand why people keep bashing on Fiat products. I had (literally) dozens of cars ( BMW, VW, Mini, Opel (gm), MB, Honda (CRV) etc.) and at least 5 Fiat products and they all have been the most reliable and less expensive to maintain. That’s my experience so far. Ps: and Alfas, Jeep’s (which increased dramatically in quality a ( take a look at the patriot or the first compass - come on -) and some Fiats (they also do “múltipla” kind of cars) are beautiful and great to drive.

As an owner of a 2019 Forester…the lift gate recalls were covered. It wasn’t just the Ascent. I have the module that was replaced. If you need an update. The ascent it literally a larger version of the Forester and I haven’t seen anyone coming in during service appointments trashing or screaming at all for an Ascent. Outback’s 2015-2018. Battery drains are easy….as I did it myself. The glove compartment. If your husband stuffs empty eye glass cases and it isn’t closed….& you don’t typically drive at night to see that light on….& the fast a few plugs are a constant drain. So if Goober Jr leaves it plugged in it will drain.
There are friends who hated their Jeep after waiting a year. Then the lemon law which gave them a replacement and it again was horrible. I have friends who have Nissan Pathfinders and love it mechanically but hate the interior cheapness. Toyota was reliable but all their lines come with many issues. Several years now. But the things you mentioned on the Ascent are literally all the things I experienced and honestly owner stupidity.

Regarding the VW Tiguan, manifold is plastic and fuel injector(s) always fails between 59k-80k kms (since first gen) -I've driven the updated ones from 16'-17' models - better engine than the next generation as long as early oil changes. Downgraded engine to attract more buyers to fueling regular unleaded, cheaper interior materials more plastic, transmission is certainly jerky - since diesel gate scandal and I never went back to VW for their Tiguan model since then.

her annual mileage would put her in the injector failure range at 5 years but i don't know whether the hybrid will stretch it out - she's more money than me but i can't see her wanting to pay for fuel injectors on a car she is selling in a few months anyway.

    1. If it looks like a crossover avoid.
    2. If it is based on an AWD'ed version of a FWD chassis hightail it out of there.
    3. If it was built in the 21st century back away slowly and don't make eye contact.

My brother recently changed car. He thought that his Skoda Octavia 2003 diesel wasn't good any more, after 490,000 km, so he changed to a 2011 with 320,000 km...
He use to drive 200-300,000 km with cars that cost 3-4000 Euro/USD. He drives 25,000 km/year or more
Another question is how long will my X3 2008, 20d, with 220,000 km last? Bought three years ago with 195,000 km.
Just changing engine oil and filters will not give the car a very bright future! At least there is, you could say, no rust.
But I'm dreaming of an x3 2011 30d with 258 hk. At least you can check a lot of values with a suitable and affordable diagnosis tool!!! And still fuel consumption is reasonable (6.0-6.5 litre/100 km). It's no sports car...

The problem with VW is that engine quality control is subpar out of the factory. Failure rate is 1 in 50, which is ridiculous.
