Absolutely. Over on Reddit it's filled with them. You get many people who swear they understand Tool and go around pointing fingers, judging, being cunts, etc. They clearly don't get it and haven't stopped to read the lyrics and think for themselves.
It's ok. Everyone takes their own time to grow and learn but Tool fans are definitely hit or miss. But in my experience irl, never met a fan I didn't enjoy speaking to and who wasn't polite and honest.

Music is meant to be what speaks to YOUR soul. Bullying is not tolerated. I have been a TOOL fan since '93 and I'm STILL discovering new elements...after thousands of listens. My ears, mind, heart and soul are open to any music...but if it doesn't resonate, then it doesn't resonate.

    • @CANDOKNOWHOW
      @CANDOKNOWHOW 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Tool is an automatic given as a great band with the vast majority of open and honest first time listeners.
This is often acknowledged by even those who are devout to a genre of music with a very distant theoretical juxtaposition.. though it may not align with the headspace they’re aspiring towards personally.
It’s a shame when it’s the case that some who love can be relentless and overbearing in their zeal, to where there’s a negative stigma attached to a band who can firmly stand on their own merits, and the hype really just detracts from the initial experience.

Absolutely love your reactions. As a die-hard Tool fan, it is frustrating to constantly see and hear of other fans giving us a bad rep or a bad name. As with life in general, some people just gravitate towards the negative side of everything, looking for problems and differences instead of brotherhood and connection. 'Keyboard Warriors' taking shots at everyone from behind the safety of their screens. If you're able to drown out voices, I believe you'll find Tool Army to be a collection of pretty cool, chill people with a profound appreciation for the artistry, insightfulness, and unique presentation of Tool. 7:15 that moment when you as a drummer just have to sit back and think how the hell does he play that, it just sounds so good.
You are right I know a few people who have been turned off by "tool fans", which is ironic considering just how down to earth they all are.
In the early 2000's I heard through a flatmate that Danny was making an appearance at a local music store, I think every young drummer in the city was there, we were all little star-struck, but he was so chill and almost embarrassed to be in front of everybody. I could think of dozens of questions I wished I'd asked, everybody seemed tongue-tied but he was very gracious and afterwards just walked off down the street.

I love watching you guys react to good music, you each pick up on different things and it's so interesting to watch the two of you discuss the things that catch you. If I could throw a suggestion in for musical selection: The Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. I've been trying to get channels to react to them for a hot minute, but they always get ignored. I feel like it's because their name might give the impression that they aren't a serious band, but they most assuredly are, and seriously talented at that. Their work is masterfully written and performed, and the engineering behind it is some of the best and most unique I've ever heard. Specifically the song "Found God in a Tomato" is a great one to hook new listeners, "Cornflake" has one of the most unusual but addicting set of riffs out there, and one of my personal favorites lyrically is "...And the Addled Abstraction of Being", though all of their lyrics are profound in their own right. Hope you guys give them a shot, even if it's own your own time, I doubt you'll be disappointed. Either way, keep at what you're doing, well wishes to you both!

Would LOVE to see both of you react to Cote by Karnivool. Has some similarities to Tool but I think it has a lot of epic moments that both JB and Charlie would really really dig. Crazy musicianship with elements of modern nu metal. They also have a dedicated fan base that would love to see them get any attention

So i’m 3 weeks late o. Watching this. I know bad me. But I wanted to make sure I had no distractions so I could hear both of your reactions without issues.
The Grudge will get the wow back with the vocals of Maynard. But this song hits the beauty of Tool. But you know that hearing it.
You shouldn’t worry about us fans and our reactions about how your listening to Tool. Tool is a journey we all take our own way.
The fact that you liked it, both of you. That’s all that matters.
You both are still one of my favorites to watch

Tool was the first concert I ever went to at age 15. I had no idea, until I was older, what an incredible group of next level musicians they were. Unfortunately, my 15 year old brain was not able to comprehend the depth of the talent in front of me at that time haha. I get it now tho. I FUH-HUH-CKIN' get it 🤣 Incredible band. Good choice guyzz!

Hey, JB. I've seen it said that the only real way to experience the feel of listening to a song again for the first time is to watch someone else do it. Tool dragged me through some tough times so I can empathize with the screaming fan boys out there. Don't pay too much mind. I appreciate the honesty of your opinions on the music. Keep doing your thing, man, and l'll keep chasing the dragon watching you make discoveries.

Tool are such a once in a lifetime discovery that it is not worth bothering too much about hardcore entitled fans who don't get you. You can be sure you have a big support from the rest of us, and I'm certain we are the vast majority. I really cannot wait for future Tool uploads. Bad apples always stick out from the crowd when you're a good person.

Thank you so much for your honesty. Don’t ever change, please. The tool army is known for being overwhelming at times but I believe that the intentions are always good. It’s like those people who are into a hobby and they would like to show you everything at once and want for you to feel everything that they feel. The truth is that Tool music is so personal and emotional and in my experience feels best when you are in the correct mood to listen to it. There are weeks, sometimes months when I just can’t do it. (and I started with Undertow)If I may, try to listen to the song again (maybe the O’Keefe music foundation cover too?) when you feel like it and share your thoughts with us again sometime. All the best and thanks for the video!

7empest is the culmination of their life long work. Some say it's a song solely to put Jones on a pedestal to show his greatness. If you want to hear a guitar master doing his thing, I recommend highly. It's my 3rd fav Tool song of all time. Love the videos.

Great reactions. You guys should take my word for it and check out one of the best bands out currently from Sweden called Imminence.
A good intro to them would be their video/song Ghost. They're melodic metalcore and the singer (who is S tier) also plays violin in their songs.

hey dude, enjoy some of the vids here. Huge Tool fan, the best is watching newbies pick up right away on a few things that makes this a special band and Live is even better usually. That said, a lot of fans are nuts. I think cause they feel under apricated and we have to wait so long between new stuff, so some analyze it to death like grade 11 English class and Shakespeare,.
Guess you have to read them, since it is a reaction video. But never let other opinions matter, just enjoy it or not. One thing I would suggest with this band, try doing a 2nd listen reaction to some song, I've been listening almost daily for 20 + years and still hear new things.
    good job

Spot on with tool fans...we are elitists. Yes, their composition is unique. Yes, their musicianship and engineering is unique. But when you're an asshole about it, nobody will care. Thankfully, the musicians themselves aren't like that. I highly highly highly recommend descending, tempest, or invincible from their new album to see how beautiful the engineering is. Chocolate chip trip from drum panning effects in your headphones.

There is no way to take in everything at once because so much is going on. I am sorry people are gatekeeping the way you react. Do you enjoy it your way! I find the appeal of Tool is the many layers and times it takes to uncover everything it’s not pop it’s an experience. This song has never gotten old for me, I still find it amazing since the first day it was released. It fed into my deep interest in Jungian ideas about our internal Shadow, and the whole map of the soul. Musically it’s.. classic Tool nothing else quite like it.

One thing that always gets missed in this song for covers, tutorials & reactions, is during the breakdown when the guitarist and bassist play the same riff one note out of sequence with each other. As a drummer, I’d love to know if you picked that too or if I’m hearing things. Love your work.
