      TOOL is so great in doing songs that can be interpreted as many things to each individual listener. Maynard uses words many folks will need a dictionary for. Which is great in my opinion. Being educated feels amazing. When you can back your views with solid facts, it is a very empowering thing. Here are what my quick takes on some TOOL sings.
      Stinkfist is about any type of addiction.
      Aenema is pretty much how "civilization" has destroyed humanity.
      The Pot is about hypocrisy.
      RIGHT IN TWO...MY FAVORITE FAVORITE FAHAAYYYYVORITE TOOL SONG OF ALL TIME. It basically describes how prone to fallacy humans are. Part of the lyrics, your gonna love this Brother..."REPUGNANT IS A CREATURE WHO WOULD SQUANDER THE ABILITY TO LIFT AN EYE TO HEAVEN, CONSCIOUS OF HIS FLEETING TIME HERE!" OmLORD IT IS SO TRUE!
      Vicarious is about how we as humans feel the desire to watch others struggles, demise even, how the whole universe is hostile. Have you ever seen two dogs get in a fight, and they bout ta kill each other, then they just stop and proceed to be totally cool with one another? It is an interesting thing in nature that grudges, although sometimes held, are not to the severity of mankind. A paradox of sorts.
      I have many more I could do short breakdowns on, but we are teaching our 15 yo Matthew how to drive, and I am at an Old Navy picking up cargo shorts for the family. I would be honored to actually speak to you on stuff. You are on a path that is soooo cool, and it is so unfortunate that not everybody desires Truth as you and I do. Stay real homie, I know you would not have it any other way, your life ain't no fiction book Bro. RESPECT!

      @dannyingram1831 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @KkDog, check the bottom message I left here, some short breakdown, very short, of some TOOL stuff. It's so deep though, you would need hours of discussion between two people or more to even break the surface. KkDog, your in for a ride with this band!!!!
      Well, the message above this one as it is on my phone, lol.

      Nearly every time someone interprets the lyrics of this song on a first-time listen, they are rightfully confused, and, lost, but, you are quite on point, good sir.
      I imagine, if someone had written their thesis on the works of Carl Jung, the lyrics of this song would have punched them in the face, on first listen, but, not all of us are "that guy."

  • @robertkilmartin350
    @robertkilmartin350 3 ปีที่แล้ว +61

    You are totally correct about how truly deep Tool is. Maynard is in essence a modern philosopher. The meaning of the song is about the possibility of humans evolving beyond their current form...44 chromosomes and 2 sex . Adding 2 chromosomes would evolve humans to a state of total consciousness. You did great at figuring most of this song, being your first experience with Tool. Keep on Rockin brother... only gets better.

    • @MalakkarVohryzek
      @MalakkarVohryzek 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      46 and 2 is the math --- 23 chromosomal pairs. Adding 1 chromosomal pair would make us primates, Chimp Chromo 2A and 2B is fused in Humans, to just Chromosome 2.
      While this song can take you in many directions, in the end, it's about being enslaved to our DNA.

    • @matthew6427
      @matthew6427 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm pretty sure Maynard has denied that this song is about chromosomal evolution. I think it's more about change, getting older, etc. I don't know for sure but the chromosome idea has been put to rest.

    • @kylekarcher

      It's completely about chromosomes. It's Carl Jung philosophy.

    • @matthew6427

      @@kylekarcher The title may be about chromosomal count but I think the song itself is about spiritual evolution. I'll have to dig through the interviews to find which exactly he talks about it. I found a quick 70 second (or so) interview where he talks about chromosomes but doesn't say that it's the actual song. Who knows though, he's also said that everyone can and should draw there own conclusions and interpretations, like art. Maybe that's why it's more ambiguous, rather than saying exactly what it's about. 🤷‍♂️

    I know this video is not new. I just wanted to tell you it’s something special to witness someone hearing Tool for the first time. Your ability to capture and understand the lyrics and what was happening in the music is fantastic. The lyrics are always going to adapt their meaning to what you personally have within you already. That’s part of the intrinsic beauty of the lyrics and the music supporting them with Tool. It’s an experience with this band. For me, it’s always something that speaks to being human. Things we all have pieces of regardless of what we look like, or where we come from. It’s part of being here. Getting past the surface and to what connects all human beings. And it’s great music. I love the heavy sound. I don’t always think too much when I’m listening. I don’t always have be diving. I just like to enjoy the music. I’ve been listening to Tool and Perfect Circle for many years and love the lyrics. But, I also just enjoy the music too. I can tell you do too! It’s such a great feeling to see someone enjoying this music for the first time! I smiled through the whole video dude! Loved hearing what you had to say. There’s no wrong way to enjoy music. It’s music!
    46 and 2 also relates to the 46 and 2 theory which is interesting. Definitely look it up! Thank you for sharing this!

    Deep within each and every one of us exists the "shadow self" the deepest darkest innermost thoughts/feelings/actions that most hide away from the world. This song is about Maynard fighting his demons, so that he may evolve into a better person. The title is an homage to human evolution, where our predecessors cromagnum man had 42 sets of 2 chromosomes, this can also be found in the aborigines of australia. We now have 44 sets of 2 choromosomes within our DNA before the chain repeats itself. Evolutionist believe that in our next stage of evolution out future selves will have 46 sets. So its safe to say that this song is about Maynard's evolution as a human being. And it is true, its better to embrace your demon to help to tame them, as repressing them causes those feelings to bottle up, pushing people to act out. I serously want to give you props for understanding that fact as well, it takes an intellectual to really understand the message behind tools songs. You are definately on the right track to interpretating this one. Trust and believe there's no such thing as Too deep when trying to figure out Tool, because in reality, were probably only scratching the surface of what goes on in these guys minds. 😋 Great work tho! Keep it up.

    Bro I've been listening Tool since 92 and I must say your reaction was awesome. I definitely think you would love more of their music. Remember this is from their third album back in the mid 90s and they've only gotten better and better

    KDog......Tool is amazing!!
    You are absolutely right! This song is about finding ones self, shedding the old you, that must be done every so often!
    Tool is constantly challenging our psyche!
    Takes me back to my college days!
    Lyrics are a must with Tool! Would love to see more! Please check out “Aenema” and also “Pneuma”Live with Danny Carey drumming! He is known as the octopus!
    So glad to see you reacting to Tool! Their songs are messages and are always powerful!
    You will LOVE “Aenema” TRUST!!!!!!

    This is the smartest reaction to a song I've ever seen. Spot on man! The singer studies Carl Jung, who discusses the shadow part of ourselves, and duuuuude, you literally hit the nail on the head with your interpretation of it. I'm really impressed.

    Tool Army! I see our guy here just started his Tool journey. I watched the Lateralus reaction. This guy has the spark in his third eye, the intellect to understand it and he might just have the will to follow a whim and really come to appreciate Tool and the art-form. I’d say he’s already a private. Welcome to the Tool Army bro.

    I REALLY recommend headphones when listening to Tool. But holy crap...I really enjoy your profound insights of the band and your psychospiritual knowledge.

    • @GimmeJimmy23
      @GimmeJimmy23 ปีที่แล้ว

      Everyone says that, but, I have a second suggestion. Get a pair of very flat (not frequency-hyped) studio reference monitors, with at least five inch drivers, eight inch, if you can afford it.
      Set your monitors up at ear-level, and position them such that you are equidistant from each monitor, and the monitors and you form an equilateral triangle, if you will. (Monitors are amplified speakers, btw.)
      Run your mixer into these monitors, and bring the master volume up to a level that doesn't hurt your ears, but is loud enough to excite.
      You are now prepared for an adequate listening experience.

    • @GimmeJimmy23
      @GimmeJimmy23 ปีที่แล้ว

      I forgot to mention, there are two very important considerations, when it comes to reference monitors. More watts is better. Also, separate speaker cones should have their own amplification, meaning "bi-amplified."

    • @GimmeJimmy23
      @GimmeJimmy23 ปีที่แล้ว
