I have been using DeX as my main operating system for around half a year now. My last laptop fried on me and because of that i chose a cheaper alternative to entertain myself- a 60.00 adapter from bestbuy that changed my phone into a desktop computer. I plugged in my mouse and keyboard, hooked it up to my tv and haven't looked back. It's not perfect...but somehow i know its the future in a way, i always have loved mobility and now i'm just waiting for the rest of the industry to catch up. The ability through which software is now thousands upon thousands with a app store- with phones that are coming out with 12gigs of ram and processor speeds to match- its quite easy to see that this might even put a dent in the console wars in a sometime future if samsung plays their cards right.
Your videos helped motivate me to buy my S9+, now running Debian via UserLAnd and Ubuntu via Linux on DeX. Another reason I got it is to use an external monitor on the road so I can run two different Android apps at once, like Waze and Google Maps.
So, since electricity prices are way out of control in our country, i try to find ways to live on the minimal power usage which can be done with powerbanks (which i can charge with solar or in my car while working). I guess this video proves that with a amazon monitor for a couple of euros and a small hub i can use my s22 without using power from the wall. Thanks for testing this and making a video of it!
This will really benefit from the convergence of apps and websites as PWA apps. I'm looking forward eventually to compatible external GPUs to give desktop power, wireless bluetooth connection supporting video and, naturally, to decent productivity glasses display with high definition capable of real productivity. Then we will be finally untethered. ;) Oh, it should all be waterproof so I can do my work while floating in the pool.
the monitor is like 300$ and the other gadgets cost like 100 t0 150 so it cost 450$ you can find a good laptop with this price. maybe a surface pro 4 or 5. just my opinion. good vid tho!
@@kdubspencer3390 that is true, might not be worth it IF one is thinking whether to buy this combo OR a laptop. however if one wants a portable monitor for all kinds of use and all kinds of devices and perhaps upgrades smartphone every year (effectively boosting the computer behind this monitor without upgrading any laptop in years) it's a different story :) it can be compared to buying an imac or separate monitor. if you don't see yourself changing the entire package all the time and see more than one use for the monitor it might be better separate. i'm thinking of a portable monitor for my note. the biggest but must be that they're quite new and quite crappy. the market is barely ready for them. next year there will be more to choose from and hopefully with decent battery life and charging solutions... and maybe more reasonable price as the few can't set the price for themselves when there are more. but i definitely like the idea.
@@mukor100k Asus has the ZenScreen series both with battery and touch and with and without both, they are a bit pricey ~450€ for the battery and touch... which I plan to get, many of your points on this solution vs. a laptop was also my arguments, and if I need a windows app or desktop experience I will use my setup to remote into my Windows PC effectively making my setup a remote thin client :D
This is no ideal setup. This video is intended to demonstrate multiple connection options. With some clever designs and a bit of 3D printing you can hide all the cables :)

i here what your saying.. but dex is a fun experience. i use mine primarily at work where answering text messages and non work emails are tons easier while using a real keyboard.. im typing right now using dex.
Major problems, getting 255b stuff off the 10+ phone Adobe bridge is useless too! file transfer is 15 hours for 255g and it times out! How do, I transfer files from note 10+ to windows 10 desktop computer its estimated I used, Usb-c and Dex and Samsung remote assistance its useless. used, Wi fi file transfer its useless! I used, windows 10 file copy transfer, its useless it timed out!
In Korea, Dex pad (EE-M5100) cost 20 bucks. But I have a problem with DEX pad with powerbank conncetion. I want to connect my dex pad to powerbank but it doesnt work. which aspect do i need? my powerbank even newest one which compatable with PD, QC3.0 also doesnt works. And I dont whink Samsung's powerbank works too. lol.
I haven't tested this yet, but straight thing i can say, i think that Samsung DeX Pad 1st and 2nd Gen will not start DeX if it’s detecting power bank power delivery. Will test with mine as soon as i have a chance.

Have you tried connecting from a usb c hub instead of direct from Samsung Dex? Will it work?

Yeah alot of these techtubers keep using that monitor when there's plenty of 130$ 12-14in portable monitors with built in 4000mah battery
