- This could be considered a sequel to my "is it cold outside?" video! We're taking a closer look at the events of that snowy night so long ago.

Possum, a former Micaclan member turned rogue, finds himself haunted by the worst night of his life.
Several moons ago, at the beginning of leaf-fall, the mountains were hit with an unexpectedly early snowstorm. When they should have been safe from the storm, his mate Sweetpea and their kit, Muddy, are instead driven from their former home, a twoleg den, by a fire. Helpless to save them, Possum could only watch from the outside and call out to his family.
Disoriented from smoke inhalation, the searing heat, and the loss of her home, Sweetpea still manages to protect their kitten from danger, and Possum meets her at the safety of the tree line behind the blazing wreck. With leaf-bare seemingly arriving without leaf-fall ever having had a chance to come, Possum knows he won't be able to care for his mate and kit on his own. He knows of a way they might be safe; it would be a long shot, but his former clan might be able to help them through leaf-bare.
However, the journey proves to be too much for Sweetpea. The smoke and heat of the fire followed by the icy winds of the snowstorm take their toll, and she succumbs to her injuries.
Left with only their kitten, Possum cannot take long to mourn her loss. Their kit can hardly shiver anymore, and now, more than ever, he needs to be taken somewhere warm. Possum journeys further up the mountain, all the way into Micaclan territory, where he meets a former clanmate, Wrentail.
Wrentail meets Possum with all the hostility a clan cat can muster toward a rogue on their territory, but Possum pleads for his help; his kitten is dangerously cold, and far too small to be able to eat any food that Possum might catch for him. With his mother gone and his home destroyed, the tiny kitten is in dire need of help.
Wrentail knows the Code. Any kitten in danger must be cared for, no matter where that kitten comes from. He agrees to take the kit to the clan's nursery, but Possum is a traitor to the clan. If he steps one paw onto Micaclan's territory, crosses their borders by a single whisker, Wrentail will rip him apart. With one last glare, Wrentail takes the tiny kit, whom Possum tells him should be named Mudkit, to the clan camp.
Possum is left at the border of the territory, alone.

The fact that Wren didn't look at Muddy with anger, but with worry and conflict.. He was angry at Possum, but that's just a little kitten, and the code stands clear on what to do, even if it's a traitor's kit, it's still a life to save.
Awe man, the fact that it was Wrentail who took Mudkit in _hurts._ Underneath all that hostility and sternness was indeed a good cat.
He was definitely a complicated individual! He was capable of goodness, in the way that all people are capable of it, but he instead repeatedly chose to do harmful and abusive actions later in life.
Your characterization is amazing!! I’m curious as to why exactly Wrentail was so horrible to Mudpaw though, is there a specific reason or did he just not like that he was born to a rogue/traitor???
@@axelf9947 it’s a mix of lots of things, but I’d say Wrentail’s own reasoning/excuse is that Mudpaw has “traitor’s blood” and will eventually betray the clan anyway, so he’s just getting the jump on the situation. In addition to this, Wrentail is also the sort of person to enjoy hurting those he sees as “deserving” of hurt. Telling himself that mudpaw will become a traitor is his excuse to hurt him without a guilty conscience.

It looked like Wrentail felt sympathy for Mudkit for a moment. It makes me wonder if being the son of a “traitor” rogue was really all that made Wrentail abuse Mudpaw, or if there was something else, like an especially sore history between Possum and Wren, or something about Mudpaw as an apprentice Wrentail just could not stand, or something entirely unrelated to Mudpaw that happened to Wrentail after this that made him want to take anger out on him. Wrentail putting his claws on his apprentice’s face just feels like it goes beyond just a stern mentor with a bigot problem, although I could be wrong.
There’s also hints of conflicting emotion. In the other animatic, despite Mudpaw instigating the fight, Wrentail still saved him from fall over the waterfall. It makes me wonder if it’s possible that spirit Wrentail will realize he unjustly took out his anger at Possum on his apprentice and pushed Mudpaw to this point.
I don't think he felt sympathy.
I think he was simply obeying the warrior code.
I havent seen everything yet, but Maybe it was because he possibly knew Possum personally? Then Possum left. And when Mudkit grew, he started showing little traits that he got from his dad, which Wrentail couldnt stand. Couldnt look at him without seeing Possum.
Part of him might know that his treatment of the apprentice is wrong, which could be where we get the little looks of guilt. Deep down he knows that none of that is Mudpaw’s fault.

So from what I understand, Possum was taking Sweetpea and Mudkit to MicaClan either to join them or just to receive medical attention but didn’t make it in time :,( and Possum, reeling from the days events finds he can’t just go back, he can’t find a life there anymore. But he hopes Mudkit can, or maybe he can’t handle being around Mudkit seeing how much he looks like his mother and is a constant reminder of everything he’s lost.

This is a great video to follow on Mudpaw’s lore! What I’m guessing is that Wrentail hates Mudpaw because he is the kit of Possum (who we calls a “traitor”). This was a great lore video, paired with great animation and intricate storytelling! Love it!

It's so interesting that WRENTAIL of all people was the one who took Mud back. It really makes me wonder Wrentail's motives EVEN MORE.
Was it just his power hungry personality? Did he not mean to hurt Mudpaw the way he did? Or possibly...was the only thing he could see in Mudpaw his perceived "failure" of a father?
Clearly there’s something going on with him and Possum that we have yet to see, and that is probably both the key to Wrentail’s motives and perhaps the way for his spirit to accept blame for what went down (according to a comment in one of the previous animatics, Starclan isn’t all knowing in this AU, and only has Wrentail’s side of the story, hence why they are blaming the victim in this case. Mudpaw’s only getting out of this If Wrentail accepts he pushed his apprentice too far). My guess is Mudpaw’s gonna go look for Possum and get the story of what exactly happened.

Your style is actually so slay and this whole story just- I can’t-
Wrentail seems like the "I'm a good person because I don’t want to go to Hell" cat here. He took Mudkit because of the warrior code. Had the warrior code not specified all kits, would he have told them to go back out into the cold where rogues belonged? Maybe he was showing begrudging kindness, but I'm not sure.

This video got me thinking about the possible reaction Wrentail had when Mudpaw pushed him off in the end. Surprise? Fright? Did he finally realize how unfair he was to that poor apprentice? Or just confirmed what he feared all this time? Anyway, it's too late now. The most tragic thing is to think that Wrentail may have acted so harshly with Mudpaw trying to spare him, but it had the opposite effect.
Oh my gosh, this is so sad. And it makes so much sense now what Wrentail’s motivations are to abuse Mudpaw.. as wrong as it is for him to abuse him. His motivation is he has the wrong blood :(

THIS IS AMAZING!!!❤️❤️ I love everything about this Riley! The subtle change in colour/mood in the house when Sweetpea asks if Possum blames himself, the details, the expressions, everything is just so perfect! I love where the lore is headed, and I can't wait to hear more about it! This is super sad though, poor Possum though, that must've been so tough for him :( , I hope we get to see more of him in the future !!
I love the visual interest of the color scheme of the animatics, like Possum sees the world in vibrant colour until his mate's death, and how Mudpaw has practically seen the world in shades of grey his whole life

That last scene is so heartbreaking! Possum has no idea what’s to come for mudkit, he has no idea what horrible things Wrentail will do to him. He most definitely doesn’t know of mudkit is even going to survive! You can just feel the despair he’s feeling

As far as i Understand(plise corect me if i'm wrong) no on in the clan know from whear Mudpaw came from, Wrenttail coud sempley say he found abondent kit on the border. Watched everything in the playlist. Mudpaw's been through a lot, I hope Starclan just watches. I hope being under his new mentor helps him heal, and the cat that knows (I forgot her name, but I think it starts with a B) means he possibly has someone to confide in, and help him process and work through his feelings and trauma.

Possum's design looks sort of similar to Whitepaw's, does this mean Whitepaw and Mudpaw might be related (cousins maybe?)

Maybe possum and RobinSong(Wrentail’s sister) were a thing? (If not, then forget about this whole thing 🙃) and because possum left to become a rouge, it made RobinSong very hurt and Wrentail got all mad and protective because that seems logical(to me at least)
And now we have muddy/mudkit and wrentail’s all like “oh my starclan, it’s the traitor and he has a son now, y’know what I’ll take this kit in because of the code, but now I gonna take my anger out on possum’s kit because he has TrAitOr blO0d”

Ok that was confusing…Cause I used to think that mudpaw moved from the clan to twolegplace but realized that that made no sense bc he killed wrentail but now wrentail is alive???Now I realize that the protagonist of the vid is mudpaws father.That eliminates a lot of confusion 😅
When I first saw this video, I was like ‘Wth…’ but when I watched it again, it made more sense and I could define that Mudpaw was a kitty pet, and probably was the reason why Wrentail abused him.

rewatching this and gosh, I'm just thinking of perhaps Mudpaw being told that Wrentail was the one who brought him into the clan and perhaps, the excitement of having Wren be his mentor only for things to happen the way it does and the heartbreak of Mudpaw realizing Wrentail didn't care, not enough at least *head in hands*
