for years I've been fascinated by the abilities of drummers. as a dude who plays guitar, always wanted to learn how to play drums... this E-kit price range, functions & connectivity etc. it is on my potential buying list.. when in the past.. my average price range of guitar is 600-1k.. then amp fx processor costs ect.. why not. 1 less guitar on the wall but try something I've always wanted to do
You should check out Mike Mangini. He has the ability to have all 4 limbs playing different time signatures at the same time. Truly a machine-like mind and amazing drummer. Edit: Hes a nice guy too. That's important to mention as I appreciate humbleness in incredibly talented people.
Right there in the same boat man. Always had the urge to play and then ran into 8bitdrummer and was like holy crap, I was meant for this. Research led me here and I think I found something to tell everyone I want for my birthday instead of the usual I don’t know 😂 debating on getting the expansion pack or waiting a but either way super excited!!
I paired the Simmons titan 50 with a Harbinger M200- BT 4 channel PA system from guitar center and it sounds great it's good that you can tweak the sound on the PA. It has a deep bass and crisp clear sound and is loud.
Really great realistic sounding rock sets installed in this set. Which is what a rock player like myself needs. Unlike Roland who has all those ridiculous unusable keyboard sounds installed. I was also impressed to hear a China high boy cymbal in the mix. Lastly, the 10 inch snare is a huge advantage over other sets in this price range that have 8 inch snares. Because the snare drum is the heart of your set, you can still live with 8 inch toms.
8:21 Yo that was dope! Going from the floor tom up and then back down! Man I like how you play. I just got this kit for Christmas. I’ve never played before, I’m loving the kit!
Using a pedalboard/mixer with my Nitro kit for effects sends/EQ on hand, and man does my kit sound better.Compression pedal/Noise suppressor/boost/ and slight phaseshift brings the sounds to life! Some saturation gives the drums a classic 70's feel which I love. Everything just sounds better especially the cymbals.Even modified the entire rack that wobbled so bad.95% of it is literally gone.Using clamps/cymbal stands and now it's rock solid and friggin cool looking to boot.🗽🛸🤖❤️
Just picked up one of these with a significant discount. The snare plays and sounds really great. In fact, all the drums sound really good and the heads have a nice bounce to them. The bass drum is the loudest (acoustically) but isn’t too bad; digitally, it sounds fine with most of the kits. I’m really disappointed with the cymbals though, i can’t seem to get the much sound out of them - they’re really quiet. I’m actually watching this review to hear his cymbals which sound much better than mine in all the kits. Lastly, the high hat is garbage. I can’t seem to get a feel for the pedal; opening and closing the high hat just doesn’t sound or feel right. This would be a much better kit if i could get the cymbals to come alive.
Thanks for your great vids, as always! I am interested in seeing how durable this kit is after a couple of months or years, because of the price point, it is very appealing! The Modern Pop preset sounded very very good! I currently use the Alesis nitro mesh (thanks to you) and it works great, i use it with EZ Drummer, because stock sounds were not for my liking. Would you say that thiskit would be a big improvement over the nitro?
I tried out the Titan at a GC yesterday. One thing that I noticed was when I hit the ride cymbal or open hi-hat and let it ring, that ringing immediately stopped or went way down in volume when I hit the bass drum pad, and possibly also happened when I hit the snare. Almost as if there was a polyphony issue like what you'd find with cheap or older keyboards. The cymbals and hi-hat didn't seem as loud when I played a beat vs. just hitting them alone. I asked the salesperson about this, and he said maybe the module just needed some configuration adjustments. Your review didn't mention this problem, nor did I hear it in the sound samples, so maybe the unit you tried didn't have this issue. The speaker I was playing through was also set on a low volume, so I don't know if this was part of the problem.
I'm so torn between these and the alesis nitros. I can get the Alesis Nitro's special edition (which come with an extra tom and cymbal) for $460. However, the bluetooth option on the Simmons Titan 50's is so nice... I'm honestly having a hard time deciding lol
Nice to see Simmons back ....I'm using the old Simmons pads with a midi converter for electronic soundd and an Alesis dm10 for dynamic necessity (not possible with the old pads). I would like to see new Simmons pads in the same old exagonal forms but with the dynamic of nowadays ..... Why don't they do it ?
They actually tired in 2017 with the SD2000, and people hated it. I love that kit though, I honestly think it destroys any new Simmons kit. Here's my video on it th-cam.com/video/Fp9vDOX4M9I/w-d-xo.html
As a longtime Metal Head and experienced drummer, my money’s on this kit. 100% for sure. Edited: I tried the tad more expensive one, I felt I could go on for MILES on the double bass pedal.
I'm a beginning drummer (I just have a practice pad and sticks at the moment), and I'm thinking of getting this kit once I'm ready to get one for my apartment. Thanks for the informative review! Does anyone have any recommendations for sticks to use on electronic mesh kits? I've heard that nylon tip may be better than wood to prevent damage
Glad it was helpful. Nylon only is better for mesh than CHIPPED wood tips. As long as they are not damaged, wood is fine. If they're always being played on e-drums, they're unlikely to get chipped.
Great reviee. I might be getting this now. How much floor space does it actually take up? Distance from the wall and width, basically. I should being a tape measure to GC....
Hi!! Very nice review! I’m very interested, but I need to bring the equipment inside my baggage. Is it possible please to share the measure of the rack pieces? And do you have the rack and module weight? Tks in advance!!
Been really enjoying your videos on the Titan 50, thank you for making them...I don't want to waste your time, but if you have a quick answer to this, I d greatly appreciate it. I would like to get a "rim click, rim shot" sound out of the unit somehow. I play a lot of country and Spanish music and that sound voice is always needed....Thanks again, great stuff, keep it up!
I'm so lost what to buy for my 10yo son. I dont want to wish I got something better in a few years. I can't decide between the titan 50 expanded, and have some leftover funds for a drum monitor and throne, or the 1250 which is honestly a little high in price for me. But like I said I don't want to regret getting him a titan 50 in 3-5 years. Titan 50 is newer and the app capabilities seem cool, but the 1250 has dual zone everything. There's also a used roland td-07kv in good condition for 675 near me, I'm overwhelmed and Christmas only happens once a year I gotta make this count 😮💨
I think the Titan 50 is a great kit for a 10 year old. It should definitely last a few years. I suggest that with a subscription to Melodics, and it'll really have him playing and having fun quickly! melodics.com/
@AlternativeDrummer I'm actually leaning towards the 1250 now, realizing I could finance at 0 interest. I definitely want to future proof a bit. I'm actually considering a roland td- 17kv or 17kvx as well since all the trouble I've seen people have with the snare triggers on the simmons, going through multiple snares, has me apprehensive to get the simmons even though you get so much for the money, for what you get at the price its really enticing. The sales end today so I'm doing as much research as I can. Simmons 1250 is on sale for $850, the 07kv is $1050, and the 07kvx is $1500, Roland's are $500 off. Idk lol 🤷♂️
Can you do bell sounds on the cymbals? I think I remember you saying they're not dual zone but another video I watched said the Titan and Alesis Max cymbals were "pretty much exactly the same." I'm weighing between this and the Max and I want that bell!
Hey Justin, do you know if an external midi/USB multi-pad unit (like the Alesis Control Pad, etc) can be connected to this module to have more drum pads than the fully-expaded kit?
I have an Alesis DM10 Studio kit that purchased like +7 years ago. Do you think the Simmons 50 would be an upgrade from what I already have? The DM10 has lots of cross talk between triggers and the module interface seem quite dated. That being said, i feel like it has good sound and had held up great all these years. Just wondering what your 2 cents are?
I think the DM-10 is still a higher end kit. Maybe try messing with some settings to get rid of the crosstalk. The Titan does have some more modern features, but it’s an entry level kit where the DM10 is one of Alesis’ flagships.
Hello, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind doing a comparison of the Simmons SD1250 versus the Simmons Titan 50 versys millenium MPs-1000 please. I'm seriously looking to purchase a Simmons but really want to see and know all about them side by side. Thank you so much, your previous videos are very informative 👍🤟✌
Sorry for this noob question. Wondering if there is a setting for getting the toms to sound like Ringo Starr's on Come Together. We're trying to play this and just cannot get it to sound right. Is there such thing as the towel on the tom effect? :)
yes, you could create your own custom kit and select toms and turn the decay down until they sound as dead as you want. You could also pitch them down a bit if you wanted. I'm sure you could make a pretty accurate representation of that sound using the sounds in the Titan 50.
I'm a Keith Moon style drummer who absolutely likes to beat the crap out of the drums once I get going. Will this kit take it? If not, what do you suggest? Still debating if I should go standard or electronic with the set. Like the electronic because they can be set up in a more compact blueprint. Can't say I like the cymbals all that much though. Does anyone use real cymbals with these sets?
I've been looking at the Alesis Command Mesh because I want to get som edrums, but this doesn't seem like a bad kit for the price. Do you have any experience with the command mesh kit?
I've never played the command, but when looking at the specs, it's not really worth the extra cost over the Surge in my opinion. The surge is a nice solid kit for the money, but the Titan 50 has more features in the module. If you plan on moving it around to gigs, then I'd get the Surge over the Titan. But if it's gonna stay at home, then the Titan.
Would someone know if you can adjust the volume for each piece separately just like on the Alesis Nitro Mesh? I am debating between the Titan 50 and the Nitro Mesh. (Side questions, what would be an affordable entry-level throne to go along with such a beginner set?)
Yes you can adjust the volume of each piece of the kit, as well as its panning and send effects level. I think the eq and compressor are both global over the whole kit.
I got an Alesis Nitro Max as a gift - still in box. I have the option to switch and I'm struggling to decide between the Nitro Max and Titan 50. Would you rate the Titan 50 over the Nitro Max?
I am new to the electronic drum kit world. Is it easy to hook up to an amp if you are playing a gig? What do you recommend for playing parties or at bars?
If I could find an older used Roland - like say the Roland TD4 or even a TD11 for close to the same price and still in good shape - are those kits going to sound better than this one (module wise)? Also - how do you feel abotu this kit compared to the Roland TD-1DMK?
Not sure if this was answered already, but how does this compare overall to the Alesis Surge Mesh Kit? Also, do you think the Titan 50 will have an "expiration date" of a few years like some say about Alesis electronic drums? Thanks so much!
The Titan 50 and the Suge both have 10" snares and single zone cymbals. the surge comes with dual zone toms, the titan doesn't but the inputs are dual zone compatible. The Titan has audio and midi over usb as well as audio and midi over bluetooth. The suge only has USB midi. The surge has more sounds, but I think the titan has better sounds. The expiration idea is highly dependent on the drummer. If you've ever been to any rehearsal studio, or shared band room, you will see it's easy for careless players to mess up anything, no matter how good it is.
Hey! After some research im deciding to get the Simmons Titan 50 as my first beginner drum set. However, before I get it, I want to know how much space it takes up, because my living situation requires me too have it in a 48x72 inch rectangle. I looked everywhere online for the amount of space it takes up, but I couldn't find anything. You're my last hope. If you could tell me the measurements in feet that the kit takes up (for example, does it take up a 4x5 foot rectangle) that would be great, Thank you! I'm sorry if this seems like a nooby question, but I've never seen an electronic drum kit in person and I just want to be sure.
I haven't had any triggering issues at all, but I do think the TD-17 will be a more rugged kit, if you plan on having multiple people of varied skills playing it, it might be a good idea to get something beefier, or even an SD1250.
I am thinking about getting this kit. Is it possible to move the crash from the left to the right side? (I don't plan on buying the expansion kit to begin with) I'm much more used to it that way.
It's got some of the classic Simmons sounds in there. The SD1250 would be a better choice I think, because it has a lot of cool features like velocity to filter, and velocity to pitch modulation. Also it has more of the classic Simmons samples on board.
@@guyfoxe Ah, well here is a list of things the Titan has that the Nitro doesn't 1. Bluetooth audio and midi, 2. bigger snare, 3. bigger kick, 4. better internal sounds, 5. audio over USB, 6. better, higher and stronger drum rack, 7. variable hi hat controller. Hope that helps!
I’m looking into buying an E kit but I can’t decide on Alesis, Roland or Simmons, I want decent size drums, bell zone and ability to use a double pedal.. what would you choose for under $1k or a little over $1k?
My main goal in getting an electronic drum kit is not only to have my band practice at our apartment, but utilize live with prerecord electronic rhythms. I was seriously interested in the Titan 50 from your videos, and was ready to go to Guitar center to try out the bugga myself. I was however deterred when I called and was informed by an employee that he got the Titan 20 for his kid, and within 6 weeks the heads started unraveling? He was pushing me towards the Alesis. Any thoughts on its durability?
Having worked in sales I’ve seen unscrupulous activity where vendors push sales staff to lean towards their products. In exchange for $ or stuff. Example: sell 200 Alesis products in 3 months and get $, or stuff. I’ll check it out myself. I can always get coverage.
@@demonicsweaters I ended up traveling 2 hours to get a used Alesis Command for $350. Doesn’t have the presets of the Titan, but was the right price for creating my own kits. Wish it didn’t only accept mono samples, but I can always record onto Abelton. Given that I didn’t wanna travel w/o 1st checking it out I went to Guitar Center, and another employee was complaining about the quality of Simmons. Oddly Simmons is owned by Guitar Center.
there is no cross stick on the default kits, however you could program one using the clave sound on a custom kit. In the future Simmons is supposed to be releasing downloadable kits via their app as well.
The NUX stuff seems decent, though I know the Titan 50 has far more features like USB audio and midi, Bluetooth midi and audio. If I get my hands on a NUX kit I’ll do a better comparison.
@@demonicsweaters thank you for the answer. I asked because I am thinking about to buy this drum kit, but I prefer mesh instead of rubber, because mesh is not that loud as rubber. I don't want the neighbour to hear it. What was your experience with this kick pad, was it loud so the neighbour could hear it or was it not loud?
It's a standard compact e-drum kit. The rack goes higher than an Alesis Nitro, if that means anything to you. I'm about 5' 11" and it's fine. I have about 3 more inches I could raise it if I wanted to.
that snare braket ,the way its mounted, that bracket they used SUCKS. it only allows left or right adjustment, & absolutletly No tilt forward or back. which sucks.
I almost purchased it but unfortunately the app is for iOS only. I don't own any Apple products so back to the drawing board for me. Great review otherwise
100 people will agree it sounds good out of the box, but I’m coming back after a year and warning you: Simmons kits are not designed and built well. Key structural pieces and electronics are cheap. My Titan 50 had multiple pieces break after a year of light use. Which wouldn’t be the end of the world, except I’ve discovered Simmons does not stand by their product at all. Their warranty claim process is the definition of run-around. They will ignore your claims and Guitar Center employees could care less that you bought their extended warranty. Lesson learned. So caveat emptor: Do NOT BUY anything by this brand.
I wonder if the poor quality sounds are there on budget kits just to make people pay more for more expensive kits. Realistically, it costs absolutely NOTHING for these companies to put their high quality sounds on the low end kits. Drum modules are advanced enough to be able to play high quality sounds at any price, so honestly feels really off to hear some of the sounds of this kit. They sound bad on purpose, especially the cymbals. Almost like a super compressed MP3 file.
I don't agree. As someone who has extensively played several kits in this price range, the sounds in the Titan 50 are way ahead of kits like the Alesis Nitro, Surge, and all of the Donner kits. You have people leaving similar comments on videos $6000 Roland kits. Sound is subjective. Have you ever designed a drum module? Do you actually know what it takes to include VST quality sounds in a module as far as memory, processing, and storage? To give you some idea, Superior Drummer 3 is over 256gb installation size and costs $400. One kit takes over 5 seconds to load on a high-end computer. This kit is under $500 and gives you nearly every way under the sun to connect to various devices.
@@demonicsweaters Couldn't they just take their high end sounds, compress them to 192kb/s mp3 files and put them on low end modules? I'm not talking about the sheer quality of the files themselves. The sounds in budget kits are very different, probably not even recorded but poorly synthesized just to give them that cheap sound. Taking preexisting high quality samples and just compressing them to usable mp3s does NOT make them sound nearly as bad as what you normally find on ~500$ kits
@@ShoryYTP Decoding an MP3 file takes a few milliseconds. You don't notice when you hit play on a song, but you would if you hit a pad and there was a bunch of latency.
@@synthetic88 so why do low end modules even work? There is no inherent difference between their high quality recorded sounds and their cheap synthesized ones. They are all files. If the low end kits can play the cheap sounds, why not just take the high quality sounds and encode them in the same format that works with low end kits. They can play them after all

Pretty impressive at that price! Kits dont sound bad at all.

I'm not sure any e-kit could take a Moon beating. Maybe a Roland VAD series?
I've been looking at the Alesis Command Mesh because I want to get som edrums, but this doesn't seem like a bad kit for the price. Do you have any experience with the command mesh kit?
I've never played the command, but when looking at the specs, it's not really worth the extra cost over the Surge in my opinion. The surge is a nice solid kit for the money, but the Titan 50 has more features in the module. If you plan on moving it around to gigs, then I'd get the Surge over the Titan. But if it's gonna stay at home, then the Titan.
@@demonicsweaters thanks for the input. I'm just wanting them for quiet in home recording purposes. I'm a bedroom musician these days
I haven’t personally played the Max, but from what I have seen it looks extremely flimsy. Not that the T50 is a tank, but it’s not that weak.
I am new to the electronic drum kit world. Is it easy to hook up to an amp if you are playing a gig? What do you recommend for playing parties or at bars?
yes, just plug it into an amp. If you plan on gigging a lot, I would get a Roland TD-17
If I could find an older used Roland - like say the Roland TD4 or even a TD11 for close to the same price and still in good shape - are those kits going to sound better than this one (module wise)? Also - how do you feel abotu this kit compared to the Roland TD-1DMK?
Sound is subjective, but I would say a TD-11 would still be a superior kit over the Titan. Probably not the TD-1 or TD-4 though.
@@demonicsweaters thank you so much! I really appreciate it! Very helpful
How’s it holding up?
Any other triggering issues? Debating if I buy another TD-17 for our little jam space or if this feels good enough.
(I don't plan on buying the expansion kit to begin with) I'm much more used to it that way.
yes it is. The crash cable is longer just to accommodate moving it around!
@@demonicsweaters Awesome, thanks for your response!
Think this kit would be good for Synthwave styled music?
It's got some of the classic Simmons sounds in there. The SD1250 would be a better choice I think, because it has a lot of cool features like velocity to filter, and velocity to pitch modulation. Also it has more of the classic Simmons samples on board.
nice review. what time stamp do you talk about the Alesis? Also, why the channel name change?
I'm not sure what you're asking about Alesis, but I changed the name because I felt it was more appropriate to the channel content.
@@demonicsweaters in the video you said there is one big element you liked about the Simmons vs the Alesis.

@@demonicsweaters awesome man. Thanks. As always great video BTW!!
Hi thanks for the review! Do I need to buy an amp??
only if you want to hear it in the room. I use headphones 99% of the time personally.
@@demonicsweaters ok Thanks! Ya I'm trying to teach my son. So I'll just get a splitter for now. Amps aren't cheap!
I’m looking into buying an E kit but I can’t decide on Alesis, Roland or Simmons, I want decent size drums, bell zone and ability to use a double pedal.. what would you choose for under $1k or a little over $1k?
The TD-07kvx is probably the best buy reverb.grsm.io/td-07. This will give you everything you need and hold it's value.
@@demonicsweaters awesome thank you
So you're saying I should buy this over the Alexis nitro mesh? Just want to confirm
I am not telling you want to buy. These are just my opinions to help you make your own decision.
Think I'll buy one today. Ride some bike do ya?
So say I wanted to make the drums sound like any sound from any song from any genre, the app and kit can do it?
I mean, they're samples. You can work with what is there.
@@demonicsweaters thanks for the reply! But with the app they can be tuned?
Are all those tom clamps in the rack and the rack joints plastic ?
Yep, like all other kits in this price range
Has the ride the bell sound when it's hit harder? It sounded like that in the demo
On some of the rides, yes!
The internal sounds blow the Nitro away. How are rim shots on the snare?
They work fine!
im kinda tight on space how big is this kit?
My main goal in getting an electronic drum kit is not only to have my band practice at our apartment, but utilize live with prerecord electronic rhythms.
I was seriously interested in the Titan 50 from your videos, and was ready to go to Guitar center to try out the bugga myself. I was however deterred when I called and was informed by an employee that he got the Titan 20 for his kid, and within 6 weeks the heads started unraveling? He was pushing me towards the Alesis. Any thoughts on its durability?
I never had any issues with the heads
Having worked in sales I’ve seen unscrupulous activity where vendors push sales staff to lean towards their products. In exchange for $ or stuff. Example: sell 200 Alesis products in 3 months and get $, or stuff. I’ll check it out myself. I can always get coverage.
@@sirbo690 true, also having actually worked in GC, some gear makes more money than others depending on the markup after cost.
Oddly Simmons is owned by Guitar Center.
does it have cross stick on the snare?
there is no cross stick on the default kits, however you could program one using the clave sound on a custom kit. In the future Simmons is supposed to be releasing downloadable kits via their app as well.
Can you use ableton plugins with this kit?
Yes
How about compare it to NUX-DM210, what's your opinion bout it?
The NUX stuff seems decent, though I know the Titan 50 has far more features like USB audio and midi, Bluetooth midi and audio. If I get my hands on a NUX kit I’ll do a better comparison.
Can I hook the Simmons titan 50 module with a donner ded-200 kit?
Most likely, but I don't think the hi hat controller will work.
What’s better the Titan 50 or the SD600?
Titan 50 in my opinion is better
Is this superior to the Alesis Nitro Mesh at the same price?
I think so
Does anyone know how to adjust metronome volume on this kit?
can this kit be set up for a left handed drummer ?
yep, just setup everything the opposite direction.
You have two YT channels? I thought I was sub'd...
Is the kick pad a mesh or rubber?
Technically it’s mesh, but I suspect underneath is rubber
@@demonicsweaters thank you for the answer. I asked because I am thinking about to buy this drum kit, but I prefer mesh instead of rubber, because mesh is not that loud as rubber. I don't want the neighbour to hear it. What was your experience with this kick pad, was it loud so the neighbour could hear it or was it not loud?
Can we attach double kick pedal with this kit ?
Yep
No bell on the ride? Thanks...
all the cymbals are single zone
How does it compare to the Donner DED-300?
Personally, I would choose the Titan 50 over any Donner kit. Donner's drums are built decent, but their modules are horrible.
@@demonicsweaters thanks for the reply.
Will EZ Drummer work with this kit?
yep
@@demonicsweaters Nice! I got the kit all I need to do is set it up. Thanx man really means a ton!
Just bought for 399
How are you liking your Simmons kit? I’m planning to buy either the Simmons Titan 50 or the Alesis Nitro Max. Thanks for any input you have on this!
@@keithinator5874 only thing I don’t like this the symbol pedal and sensitivity. Nitro drums looked much worse imo. I’d get Simmons
thinking about buying this kit..... I am 6-3... how is the size of this thing
You can. Just position the L bracket sideways and you can tilt towards you. This is pretty standard on all e-drums.
You can’t cymbal choke
Yeah but apparently if you don't have an iPhone you're screwed
The app isn’t necessary
