I officially became a permanent ISLANDER FANATIC on September 22, 1978.

As a Boston Bruins fan second, and a TRUE hockey fan first, i have to agree with those who say this is the greatest dynasty. My favorite tidbit about this team is that they had a different player win the conn smythe trophy every year. That shows how much they relied on TEAM. Just to add on... Alot of us forget about the team they were playing... Philly had a mini dynasty 4 years earlier. They won two in a row and then lost to the fledgling Canadiens dynasty. They were hungry and filled with vets who wouldn't go away easily. That two goal lead for NYI at the end of the second was NOTHING for them to worry about. It says a lot for the isles to pull thru as well after being one period away from winning and then having to go to OT. If Flyers win game 6 and send it back to Philly, there may not be a NYI dynasty.
Sensing deep in the core of my gut, that my ISLANDERS were going to nail the Cup - clinching goal in overtime, at the end of regulation, i rushed downstairs to the portuguese pool hall, were i definitely unleashed my euphoric Stanley Cup victory scream, with Nystrom's goal at 7 : 11 of the extra period, in which i nearly gave everybody in the place, a totally - unexpected CARDIAC ARREST. Besides, i did not want to frighten anybody in the Spanish Club, specially my beloved late mom who was there, with my histerical yell of ultimate victory. That is why i went downstairs to the portuguese pool hall, and unleached my extatic ISLANDER CUP VICTORY CELEBRATIONS there, instead.

LOUIS BLUES. / ATLANTA FLAMES. / NEW YORK RANGERS. / MONTREAL CANADIENS. / BOSTON BRUINS. / CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS. / MINNESOTA NORTH STARS. / BUFFALO SABRES. / PHILADELPHIA FLYERS AND NEW YORK ISLANDERS.
@Drew-vn8rx : Him and my former street neighbour, the late MIKE BOSSY ended their remarkable careers with the NEW YORK ISLANDERS, having never played for another NHL franchise team.
@Drew-vn8rx : I am quite certain that many hockey fans today, still remember vividly Billy Smith's infamous stick swing that struck Wayne Gretzky's leg, right in front of the Islanders net during Game - 2, of the 1983 Stanley Cup Finals at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton. However, being the gracious sportsman that he trully is, Smith eventually delivered his personal apologies to THE GREAT ONE, as the 2 teams lined up for the traditional post - series handshake at center ice, immediately after the Isles dominant 4 game sweep of the young Oilers, a few nights later at Nassau Coliseum on Tuesday night May 17, 1983. Gretzky himself, graciously accepted Smith's apology which deeply moved many fans in the arena, and in living room homes across the continent, that unforgettable evening, exactly 41 years ago in Uniondale, New York.
@Drew-vn8rx : However, at the end of Game - 4, the vanquished Oilers walked right past the Stanley Cup champion Islanders dressing room, and noticed that the vast majority of Al Arbour's men were completely exhausted, covering their injured bodies with ice packs rather than wildly celebrating their brilliant defence of the sacred treasure. This unexpected dissplay prompted Gretzky in suggesting to Coach Sather and his fellow teammates that the demonstration itself gave the Oilers, the exact kind of motivated inspiration they successfully used, to end the 4 year Islander reign, by dethroning them of their precious chalice which is precisely what happened the following season in Game - 5 of the Stanley Cup Final, contested before a raucous and extremely noisy crowd of over - exuberant Oilers fanatics, assembled at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton on Saturday night May 19, 1984.
@JTupp96 : Nystrom's Cup - clinching overtime goal in 1980, is now regarded by fans as one of the most memorable Stanley Cup winning goals, ever produced in modern NHL history.
@JTupp96 : Nystrom appeared in the final game of his remarkable 14 year - career as a member of the New York Islanders on Saturday April 12, 1986 against the visitng Washington Capitals, at Nassau Coliseum. After taking the openning face - off and skate around for 5 short seconds, the man affectionally known by his adoring fans as MR. ISLANDER, returned to the bench, never to play another NHL game for the rest of his life. Sadly, Islanders lost that final game of the 1985 - 86 season, 3 - 1. Even though they made the playoffs, Al Arbour's boys were quickly exited in the Division Semi - Finals, by the Washington Capitals. The same team who defeated the Isles in the final game of the regular season several days earlier, lossing the series in only 3 short games.

"That may be the biggest goal"
yeah how prophetic was that an hour later that quote definitely never aged well
9741 : The one which systematically openned the door, to the start of the
most glorious hockey dynasty, ever produced in modern NHL history.
NEW YORK ISLANDERS. STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS OF THE
NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE. NASSAU COLISEUM, UNIONDALE,
NEW YORK. SATURDAY MAY 24, 1980.
Sensing deep in the core of my gut, that my ISLANDERS were going to
nail the Cup - clinching goal in overtime, at the end of regulation, i
rushed downstairs to the portuguese pool hall, were i definitely unleashed
my euphoric Stanley Cup victory scream, with Nystrom's goal at 7 : 11
of the extra period, in which i nearly gave everybody in the place,
a totally - unexpected CARDIAC ARREST.
Besides, i did not want to frighten anybody in the Spanish Club, specially my
beloved late mom who was there, with my histerical yell of ultimate victory.
That is why i went downstairs to the portuguese pool hall, and unleached
my extatic ISLANDER CUP VICTORY CELEBRATIONS there, instead.
I'm a die hard BRUINS FAN, but this is why I love sports..
7417 : Hate to dissapoint you, but i deeply despise the Bruins due mainly because
of their violent and barbaric behaviour.
7417 : Now, highly - civilized NHL franchises such as, THE PITTSBURGH PENGUINS,
CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS, LAS VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS and NEW YORK RANGERS
for example, are regarded as role - models to many devoted hockey fans,
assembled across North America.
@joealmeida7417 : YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. ARMAGGEDON HAS JUST
DECENDED OVER BOSTON.
@joealmeida7417 : All i can say is this. My cats are hungry and extremely
dangerous. Boston, watch out. The nightmare of Legends Way, has started.
PANTHERS IN 4.
@joealmeida7417 : '' GO CATS GO. '' That will be the glorious rallying cry,
which would be reverberated across the beautiful sunshine state of
Florida, tomorrow night including all 25 highly - civilized NHL cities located
across the continent, as they bear wittness to the public demise of
professional hockey's most hated franchise : The dreaded Boston Bruins.
bababooey
@Drew-vn8rx : That's Nystrom.
The following NHL teams, qualified for the 1980 STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS :
EDMONTON OILERS. / VANCOUVER CANUCKS. / HARTFORD WHALERS. /
PITTSBURGH PENGUINS. / LOS ANGELES KINGS. / TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS. /
ST. LOUIS BLUES. / ATLANTA FLAMES. / NEW YORK RANGERS. /
MONTREAL CANADIENS. / BOSTON BRUINS. / CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS. /
MINNESOTA NORTH STARS. / BUFFALO SABRES. / PHILADELPHIA FLYERS AND
NEW YORK ISLANDERS.
@Drew-vn8rx : Him and my former street neighbour, the late MIKE BOSSY ended
their remarkable careers with the NEW YORK ISLANDERS, having never played for
another NHL franchise team.
@Drew-vn8rx : I am quite certain that many hockey fans today, still remember
vividly Billy Smith's infamous stick swing that struck Wayne Gretzky's leg,
right in front of the Islanders net during Game - 2, of the 1983 Stanley Cup
Finals at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton.
However, being the gracious sportsman that he trully is, Smith eventually
delivered his personal apologies to THE GREAT ONE, as the 2 teams lined up
for the traditional post - series handshake at center ice, immediately after
the Isles dominant 4 game sweep of the young Oilers, a few nights later
at Nassau Coliseum on Tuesday night May 17, 1983.
Gretzky himself, graciously accepted Smith's apology which deeply moved
many fans in the arena, and in living room homes across the continent, that
unforgettable evening, exactly 41 years ago in Uniondale, New York.
@Drew-vn8rx : However, at the end of Game - 4, the vanquished Oilers walked right
past the Stanley Cup champion Islanders dressing room, and noticed that the
vast majority of Al Arbour's men were completely exhausted, covering their
injured bodies with ice packs rather than wildly celebrating their brilliant
defence of the sacred treasure.
This unexpected dissplay prompted Gretzky in suggesting to Coach Sather
and his fellow teammates that the demonstration itself gave the Oilers, the
exact kind of motivated inspiration they successfully used, to end the 4
year Islander reign, by dethroning them of their precious chalice
which is precisely what happened the following season in Game - 5 of
the Stanley Cup Final, contested before a raucous and extremely noisy
crowd of over - exuberant Oilers fanatics, assembled at Northlands Coliseum
in Edmonton on Saturday night May 19, 1984.
BA BA BOOOOEEYYYYYY
@JTupp96 : Nystrom's Cup - clinching overtime goal in 1980, is now regarded by fans as
one of the most memorable Stanley Cup winning goals, ever produced in modern NHL
history.
@JTupp96 : Nystrom appeared in the final game of his remarkable 14 year -
career as a member of the New York Islanders on Saturday April 12, 1986
against the visitng Washington Capitals, at Nassau Coliseum. After taking
the openning face - off and skate around for 5 short seconds, the man
affectionally known by his adoring fans as MR. ISLANDER, returned to the
bench, never to play another NHL game for the rest of his life.
Sadly, Islanders lost that final game of the 1985 - 86 season, 3 - 1.
Even though they made the playoffs, Al Arbour's boys were quickly
exited in the Division Semi - Finals, by the Washington Capitals.
The same team who defeated the Isles in the final game of
the regular season several days earlier, lossing the series in only
3 short games.
