  • With the goal of improving the political system, a new kind of political party called The Net Party tried to hack it in Buenos Aires back in 2012. With the lessons of discovering how corrupt the system is, in 2015 a new strategy was designed with the support of Y Combinator. Democracy.Earth, a non-profit made to re-think democracy, was created to disrupt voting using the blockchain and other emergent new technologies.
    Founder and president of Democracy Earth, a Y Combinator backed non-profit doing the largest global effort to deliver an open source solution to online voting. Founding peer of Partido de la Red (The Net Party), a political party that aims to improve representation with candidates committed to citizens requests online. An advocate for Bitcoin since 2011 helping startups, e-commerce sites and nonprofits to adopt it and a partner of Bitex.la, the largest Bitcoin exchange in Latin America. In 2007 founded Popego, a pioneering big data research lab acquired by Brazilian boo-box in 2011. Co-founded the Argentine Game Developers Association in 2001. Elected as Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum. Contributes in radio and television evangelizing about the virtues of technology. His first book 'Hacktivismo' was published in 2015 by Random House.

    Agora! Speaking and thinking with others is a fine definition for "a force that has been growing throughout history and keeps liberating people around the world." Love it. Brilliant talk, Santiago.

      I agree; I'm really glad to find the word, too. I'm touring democratic things, here, after just publishing a paper on the idea of adding a voluntary democratic org in the fourth estate, to monitor & redress govt injustices (at Breaking Ground on substack). I've enjoyed referencing local interaction from history as most helpful. Cheers.

    I've thought about this for the last 13 years. Having a (secure) online site for voting, and making politician's jobs more transparent is essential for removing corruption. There should be government forums that list all employed politicians, where everyone can view any politician's votes and opinions and comment on them. People need an easier way to communicate with their representatives openly. The next step is bringing all citizens the ability to vote on issues, turning every willing participant into a force for change, an influence on the elected. Eventually, new branches of government based solely around direct democracy will give every citizen the chance to have their voice and vote counted. As a legal and constitutional right. Historically, direct democracy has been limited to very local systems because of how difficult it is to communicate between large groups of people and distances. But this is 2020, we have the internet and computers. That barrier has fallen.

    since the old models are failing us...not being able to truly make the decisions and solutions for our "now" world problems such as climate change and mass extinction of species..it is time for collaborative exchange between individual humans bringing views measured by ethics.

    In principle, social media is good for democracy because more people can get involved. But Facebook can never become a global platform for democracy because it is profit based. Only a non-profit platform can improve global democracy and get more people involved in cooperative processes.

      I don’t agree with the non-profit platform point. Who do you think will more likely to fund the platform? That’s right...

      @@vladanlausevic1733 You didn't get my point. I'm not against the idea. I'm just against the idea of non-profit platform. It has to be profitable just like any other capital company. Because again who do you think will fund the platform if it is a non-profit? It will be governments and if governments interfere with such platform, we know the consequences. So it needs to be a public platform to be independent from any corrupted government

    Blockchian is fine, but it doesn't scale. It gets slower the more nodes are on the network.
    Tangle solves that problem, & actually gets faster the more nodes are on the network. The world moves fast, & unfortunately, at the advent of blockchain entering the social consciousness, it's already obsolete.
    Edit: Blockchain is also highly vulnerable being hacked by quantum computers, which will be a problem in the near future. Tangle does not have that vulnerability.

    • @FilipeSilva1
      @FilipeSilva1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just no. Tangle is more vulnerable than Blockchain by far. Quantum or non-Quantum.
