The positive terminal on the starter can spin when overtorqued. If it spins it can ground itself out on the body of the starter. Not the greatest design. In fighting mine right now as well. They sell selanoid rebuild kits. I suggest buying the kit with the plastic components included as well.
we had to take out one of the 15 amp fuses that work with our radio and once we took out that fuse the car started right up it also deals with the security system
Im having the same issue. When you pulled that fuse and the car started, were you able to to reinstall the radio/security fuse afterwards. I have no dash lights as well... car cranks no start
You have a short to ground on the fuse load side, the way to find out which one is the load side of the fuse is to use a test light and touch each side of the place the fuse goes, the side when the test lights up that is your power side and other side should most likely be you load side , then trace down the load side of the wire and see where the short is!
Cool to see a female working on a car, as far as fixing it you need to trace the wires from inside fuse panel out to the engine bay, ohm test each wire and check all grounds
put a voltmeter on your starter lead, if it is grounding out instantly after key turn you found the problem. I'm a BMW MT but I'm helping a friend with his 276,000 subi that just tested 205 ft/lbs. on all cylinders. It has no spark but the ignition signal is not making it from the ignitor to the coil. I have a strange feeling your uncle got on that starter lead and put 80-100 ft/lbs. of torque on it. Just a suggestion but I would back it out put two washers on it and torque to spec. GL!
With the fusible link take a piece of brake wire and just shove into the two terminals. Trying to use a old one is probably what is blowing the fuses. I have the same vehicle and it did the same thing. Took a piece of brake wire from a trailer, cut it the right length and used it and it fixed the problem
Did this ever get resolved? Fuse tripping may be a wire grounding out/arcing or there is an issue with the ECM/U not receiving and/or has just gone bad. Presumably, you had the codes pulled? If the timing/idling is off that can contribute to your problem, also. Code reader will let you know for sure. Unfortunately, you noted the alternator had to be replaced. If the previous owner ran the car on an alternator that was problematic, but still proving false positives of being good for too long, it can stress electrical systems and components.
My 95 Subaru started acting wonky yesterday like an electrical problem. It was acting like it didn't want to start and like it wanted to die while driving home from the store, also dash lights kept flickering. Once I got home, it wouldn't start. Sometime it will try to crank, other times nothing and the hazard lights come on and blink inside the car but not outside, also the dash lights are flashing. I got it to start once by hitting the lock button on my key fob and hasn't actually started again since. Any ideas? I don't know much about cars but I was thinking maybe a solenoid alternator or starter. I have already recently replaced the battery & alternator. I am a broke-ass college student just trying to make it until graduation. LOL
It’s not a starter or alternator for sure. This smells like a short, the question is where? I would start checking fuses, all of them. Look at wires anywhere wires bend doors ect. Check for bare wires. Find the ground leads under the hood they are usually bolted on. Take them out and clean with a wire brush. Be careful not to over tighten them. Then it’s time to check relays. I am cheap so I find one that I know is good and matches other ones and move that one around until I find the bad one. You can test a relay but I am far to lazy for that. You can also find a friend with an obd scanner and see if that showes anything, all codes are listed online. After that.......... if all else fails , beat it.ummmm scratch the ol head... lower the insurance deductible and set it on fire.
Quin bummer I would be interested to buy it if I wasn’t so broke. I had an old Jeep like that. I ended up rewiring almost the entire truck. I feel bad for the guy that bought it, all of the wires are yellow. Didn’t seem worth it to get a bunch of different color wires. If it’s a wagon maybe start in the rear lift gate. My wife’s car did something similar and that’s where the short was. Also maybe pull the battery leads for a while and check the battery for voltage could just be dirty leads. Maybe try a jump start. Simple free and worth a shot.
Hi. I have one Subaru. It has the same problem. How did you solute that in your car? Could you help me, please? Waiting for your help. I searched one answer for that in all internet, but I don't found nothing yet. Thanks for your attention. 🙏

I imagine you figure you found it by now. My guess would be that you have an open circuit somewhere, maybe a bare wire. It’s a lot of chasing the old tail. An ohm meter and test light will be your friend. These are never fun....... unless you like where’s Waldo. Get some aspirin your back will thank you.
Why u think it's the Timninf belt? Im haven some what the same problems but everyone says lots of diffent shit about it an no one say hey the problem is this an this what u do to fix it. I been looking up for weeks now after i took my head off to put new gaskets on my 95 EJ-22 Subaru Impreza 2.2 i think i spent more cash on this peace of shit car then what the car is ever was or gonna be worth tell u what tho both front axle where shot an i put 1 new one on the drive side an a donut on the driver side drove around for 11 months that way never popped even went to the mountains in the snow in the mud modern the tires to last 11 months and my friend had the donut cuz I didn't take the one out of my car cuz it wouldn't come out he had hit that donut on for a year I tell you what you can go faster than 50 or 55 I went 140 with 1 axle mob like a champ but this damn car has its own mind of its own tho I ran from a few cops one nigjt never gave me a problem an almost got away but no my bitch of a car wanna be a bitch get me in trouble so I figured it want to die but after everything is start back up never had a problem since until now again and never ever start back up within three weeks I've been working on it I thought it was a ground to cuz I took the whole freaking motor part and I was a nightmare without cherry picker deff when u got friends that put ther hands in it too so get piss all the time an have to retake everyrhing back off cuz friends ant real friend they want u to fuck shit up an go thu it again being drunk or stone ass holes so now i sleep with my keys an hood locked an doors an dash came an cop camsa going i ant going to pull the dum ass motor back out the 17th time fuck that an if anything up here in the woods ill blow the car up shoot the fuck out of it rent a few bums to have a big coked-out meth orgy in it then put it up for sell an never buy a Sub ever again or even take it for see
I have a 1995 Subaru Legacy LS 2.2L & a 1999 Subaru Legacy GT 2.5L
they can get tricky to work on but are such a reliable vehicle! 👍

Luna Yup. This right here.

Im curious to know if you ever found the problem?
Spend the 30 bucks also make sure positive and neg leads are not mixed up going to starter
you know witch fuse is the alternator?
I have a question i replace my fuse to windshield wiper switch and i keep replaced the fuse
You can't judge a wire by the loom. Wires can go bad inside of a loom.

Thank you! Will do, very helpful.
Are you going to burn it? Saves time lmfao.

Probably sell for parts.

StrangeFellowsTV same thing happen you need to replace your whole engine box fuses and the ones inside your dashboard

sounds like you shorted a wire out somewhere if its popping a fuse
was the car turning over at all
I believe is your starter
short wire mostly likely in the starter. Get a new starter.
I'm having the same thing happening.
