    You sir just saved me a lot of headache! Had a loose ground on the intake manifold, got in the car, heard the fuel pump engage and she fired right up! :)

    good info. We had a bad ground but it was on the very back of the engine block was my understanding. Car would crank, but not run more than a few seconds. Security code was the indicator. Finally figured out by a Subaru regional engineer after about 6 months and over $1,000 of parts changing including ECMs. etc. nightmare, which I might add was caused by a mistake made by mechanic in Cary NC Turbo Time, they left the ground wire very loose obviously. Subaru expert in Asheville NC could not figure it out, Subaru dealer in Hickory finally consulted the engineer after over a month of attempting to fix it.

    Funny I found this video today because 6 weeks ago I had the exact same problem - I got the point of ordering a new ecu and I found the sane ground as you that was the cause (mine was connected but loose) 👍🏻👍🏻

    Thanks for pointing out green 1 wire connector is test & Supposed to be Unplugged! I plugged mine in while under dash
    I can't get fuel relay to click on.
    But please note with that plugged in. I hotwired 12v from a junk box, to black & red wire at pump connecter (when plugged in, in essence Feeding whole wire 12V. and using chassis as ground from batt box). Pump ran & car started up for 5 seconds then ran rougher & died. Restarted couple times while I'm back near pump.
    Decided to get in driver seat and rev engine after start. Did it twice still stalled out. Got out and when was going to underhood fusebox, replacement (non) Fusible link wire was Smoking, melting insulation!
    Didn't know if used pump drawing too much amperage. Or result of 2nd battery being used to power pump, While connector plugged into system! Test wire plugged in at that stage too as well.
    Tomorrow drawing board.
    Just weird no bad fuses yet no pump relay clicking.
    Also my 98 legacy 2.5 Sohc doesn't have blue w yellow at pump connector!
    Thanks to everyone who posts!!! So great

    I follow all your instructions looking for a loosed ground and going crazy, but at the end was the cable from my fuel relay going to the fuel pump but making a ground and not letting the current reach the pump. thanks for your video.

    My car on the scan too reads that everything is working fine except I keep getting random cut off like the engine just dies almost like it’s getting no fuel. It’s hard to start after it dose that after I do get it started it’s fine again. I’ve checked all the grounds I could find all are good and tight no corrosion. Fuel pump sound nice and strong I’ve also checked fuel pressure all good fuel trims also are like perfect I’ve changed fuel filter and relays still get this random stalling

    Always start with connecting the two green test connectors and turn the key to ON. Fuel pump, relays and solenoids should all be cycling.

      @@rsauder Just what it says. You should have battery + and ignition + going to the harness. If you have a problem after doing something to the engine, go back and review your work (disconnected grounds)

    You think the ground wire could create a misfire?

  • @ykostudio
    @ykostudio 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I had a problem (TWICE!) with my Subaru Outback fuel pump. The car would start, but then would just sputter, cough, and act like it wanted to stall... The temporary fix involved banging on the fuel tank (watch my video for more info th-cam.com/video/qvbAh2lKuhY/w-d-xo.html ). Ultimately, it required a new fuel pump. Add this to your bag of tricks; when you're stuck out on the highway, or back roads, it could be a life saver!
    Best Regards,
    Jon

    yo i picked up an 05 sti. the dealership diagnosis shown everything fine. but when i was on my way to work i was going about 50 in 4th gear about ready to shift when my engine shut off, i lost power steering and braking had to pull my e brake to stop and pull over. i checked my timing belt (took the left & right covers off) the timing belt seemed fine. when it first shut off i tried starting it again but it didnt want to kick over. when i got it to my house it started but now was squeaking, which i think was some coolant that got onto the pulleys so i wasnt too worried. but it is making a different idle sound now when i started it. im not driving it now just in case it is something internal, but no check engine light came on just the oil light but it had enough oil, i check the trans oil and it was good. I was just wondering if anyone had the same issue before but figured out what caused it. the battery is fine, the ground are lightly oxidized so maybe i can change those out. i havent checked the sparks. i just want to see if anyone had similar issues so i can narrow it down more. thanks!

    • @kronic12052
      @kronic12052 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TooSlick1996 the swap was a success. it ran for about 4-500 miles until the timing belt tensioner failed and skipped some timing and bent a few valves. Gates products arent what they used to be i guess. It now has a IAG built block with machined heads and everything from the wrx swapped over. way more money than i wanted to pay but its fun to drive now.
