An affordable amp modeler, the Arena 200 is packed with amp models, effects and utilities that makes it a good candidate for a starter home studio for recording electric guitars. This Amp modeler pedal boasts a ton of features comparable to more expensive models. But how does it sound? In this Donner Arena 2000 pedal review I demonstrate the different presets, create my own and share tips on how to use it in the studio. At its core it is a a guitar multi effects pedal will different effect modules ranging from chorus, flanger, reverbs and delays. Plus there are compression, drive and EQ effects. Not to mention 80 Amp Models and a ton of Cab IRs. This may be the cheapest amp modeler but let's see how it performs in the studio.

Excellent review!!! Thanks for noting the slight harshness these pedals can introduce. I'm REALLY GLAD you pointed out the EQ system in helping reduce that little brittle, raspiness!!!!! The Surh lead sounded great as did the FULL RECORDING. Many thanks, this was very helpful!!!!!!!!
My pleasure! So glad you found this helpful. And thanks for your positive thoughts!
I have had my unit for 6 months now and love it. Thanks for that EQ tip. I have never played with that function at all.
Awesome! Glad you found that tip helpful! Cheers!
Cool video man! Looks like a fun unit for beginners who want to get started with recording and exploring effects and tones
Thanks Jon. Easy entry point for beginners for sure.
Very Cool review of the Donner Arena unit! Thank You!!
My pleasure! Glad you liked it!
That hush guitar is so unusual. It looks like a piece of Art!
It is quite interesting 😎🎸
Interesting multi effects. Cool review as well.
Some inquiry:
- Does the Expression Pedal do Pitch Shifting?
Great video. Can I loop chords and use the built in drum machine and adjust the volume of each individually? And then can I store what I just created (combining both of them) into the memory for later use?
Thanks!! That's a really good question. I didn't get too deep into the looper becauseI really had no use for it myself.
I have one and it is actually pretty damn amazing lol. great video
Thanks so much. Glad you are enjoying yours 😎🎸🤘🏽
Can you charge presets from the win/mac app? Like downloading them in by other people on the internet and add them to your own patch lists?
New subscriber here. Excellent review and demo! Also have to acknowledge your impressively accurate and very smooth playing. Well done, my friend!
Thanks so much! So glad you hopped on. Look forward to hearing from you again!
Nice review and demo ... thx. Any thoughts on the Arena 2000 vs NUX MG 30 ? Many similarities but looks like the Donner has XLR outs and MIDI connectivity which I don't see on the NUX ... wondering about ease of use, flexibility, sound tweakability, build quality. Anyone with experience on both?
Thnx! I’ve never tried any Nux products but I’ve had people ask me. If I ever get my hands on one I’ll give it a go!
Can this unit do a stereo dry/wet set up? So out of the left output do a dry and out of the right do a wet 100% I can see it does that via the USB audio but wasn’t sure about physical outputs. Thank you
I don’t have it in front of me but I don’t believe so. Budget devices like that generally don’t have very flexible signal routing.
SO WHAT PROGRAM/SOFTWARE ARE YOU USING TO RECORD AND LOOP THE DRUMS & RYTHYM TRACKS TO PLAY ON TOP OF? SORRY FOR ALL THE CAPS, IM BEING LAZY LOL. MANY MOONS AGO I HAD A DIGITECH GNX-3 THAT WAS AN 8 TRACK RECORDER AND DRUM MACHINE ALL IN 1 UNIT. IM TAKING IT THIS DOES NOT DO THE SAME AND YOU MUST USE SOFTWARE SUCH AS "CAKEWALK", JUST AN EXAPLE, BUT THIS UNIT MUST INTERFACE WITH A LAPTOP IN ORDER TO RECORD AND OVERLAY TRACKS TO PLAY ON WITH DRUMS INCLUDED IN THERE?
I use Logic Pro. Any DAW will do as this can work as a general interface for any Mac or PC.
Alright I’m sold. I thought it was rlly good but some people said it couldn’t be used as an interface. But if it can then I no longer will second guess the product
Hope it works out for you!
How many reverbs can you run at once? And the FX block be used as a second reverb?
Hmmm...I believe it's just one. The fX blocks are predefined with drive and modulation effects. No extra reverbs.
How to use exp pedal as a wah
What software could you use to record with on a Mac? GarageBand? Or?
GarageBand is a free option. Logic is unique to Mac and it’s awesome. Almost all DAWs have a Mac version. Lots of choices.
Using the arena 2000 as audio interface, hows the latency?
It was fine. Admittedly my project wasn’t that big. But seemed as good as any budget interface.
@@LonelyRocker thank you
Can it be used to direct record to a phone? The usb C port
That's a good question. I have not tried that.
@@LonelyRockerhave you tried ?
No I haven’t.
Mine has only first 36 presets with tones ans from 37 to 50 are empty.
But yours has all ...
How come like that ????
Not sure. Lots of room to make your own presets! 😂🤟🏼
But can I use multiple effects at the same time ??
Sure. Whatever the blocks support.
@@LonelyRocker and how do I do that I just picked it up today and I want to know how to customize a chain of effects and switch to them back and forth
Does It have a whammy effect? I can't found it 😢
not sure...I don't recall seeing one....
The lack of internal or external midi clock sync for timed effets like delay and for loop resync makes it completly unusable for professional environments…
I don't think I ever used the word "professional" next to this device. It's very entry level for sure and that suits a lot of newer players.
@@LonelyRockerI know I just hope they add support for it. Should be only a firmware update issue. The only budget alternative that has midi sync is the Valeton GP200 but I think the donner sounds way better.
I wouldn't hold your breath...but you never know. Donner has really stepped up some of their products....
Just got this message from tech support : Your suggestion for implementing timed effects such as delay and beat BPM MIDI sync from an external source, followed by a looper resync on tempo, has been duly communicated to our development team. We believe that future updates for the ARENA 2000 will indeed include these features.
All we learned is that you can play guitar.
Is that a good thing? 😎🤘🏽🎸
