Andre Jolivet's symphonies are not a kind of "easy listening music". But the more you will listen (carefully) to these symphonies, the more you will love them!

THis first symphony of Jolivet starts very abruptly. This beginning gives its impetus to the whole symphony, which uses a harsh dissonant language without losing tiny links to tonality. The traditional procsses of Jolivet are here; rythmic developments, synthetic modes. This is a masterwork in Jolivet's throughput.
