This is the type of orchestra Gustav Mahler must have envisioned when he wrote this Symphony. They give everything, no holds barred, big hearted and full throttle. I love this orchestra!

Excellent microphone placement/balance by the recording engineers that captures a panoramic vista of stereophonic sound allowing the listener to hear with great clarity all of the different orchestral instruments and their sections.

Reminds me of the late 1960s stereo recordings where engineers wanted to display their advances in vinyl record stereo separation. This is all very well to my liking as Charles Buxton pointed out.

Esecuzioe stupenda!

Maazel's handling of the TRIO in the Scherzo (the schmaltzy stuff) and the entire Third Movement was SUPERB in his Vienna (Sony) recording from the '80's; HERE, he gets the orchestra to play with the same expression, color, and idiomatic feel, quite an astounding feat. I think this is a great performance of Titan, made me feel like I was back in Poland walking in the forest and listening to cuckoos, folk melodies in a little village and coming home to my Cantor grandfather's Jewish songs and dancing with my friends at the Jewish gathering 🙂 And when bad times make me restless, back at the forest all troubles seem to go away. Life is full of conflicts we struggle with as Mahler did but memories of childhood, music we grew up with and nature make it easier to cope. And triumph prevails

47'27''': I was 'shocked' when the whole orchestra paused, when I was doing homework, listening to this. This made me pause on my homework and watch exactly what happened right at the moment. Really surprising, but pretty reasonable - I don't think a lot of orchestras are doing this. This is definitely new to me.

I have to laugh because so many composers in the 20th century eschewed melody because they could not match Mahler. This is a piece that sings from beginning to end. What a joy!

Absolutely well balanced play!!! Mahler mounted lots of disparted notes from Oriental motives in his symphonies. So some great conductors complained it and did not play Mahler often. Maazel has made this Giant music in Order - that was the love of Maszel's interpretation. New rising conductor, Klaus Makela, has shown somewhat disorders forward and interpreted Mahler's notes in new details that was also unique and interesting too.
