I feel like it's more comparable to Ektar (with a more slide film dynamic range) as the real speed of Phoenix is closer to 125 ISO according to the chemists at Harman. I do think it's impressive that they converted a chromogenic film to a full colour film without Kodak levels of funding. Keep in mind that Kodak has multiple revenue streams and that the consumer film is somewhat funded and assisted by the Motion Picture department. Kodak is also raising all the 35mm film prices so maybe this is a good time for Phoenix to enter the scene.
Agree. Overall I'm glad they went ahead and released it even thought it doesn't feel fully baked. I welcome a new color film that leans this heavily into the color red as much as this one does. Might have to buy more just for sunsets
I agree. There isn't a value proposition for Phoenix 200. The "rough" properties aren't special enough to warrant the higher price, especially when Kodak and Fuji are selling "cheapish" 200-speed film. It's also not a Lomo trick-pony film that deserves a higher price. I'll pass until it's fully baked.
The value prop is more symbolic. The value is that there's a completely new color film in development, and that's a good thing. But yeah, it's a tough sell for regular use at the moment
@@doublenegative4realTo be fair, I also don't think Harman is even making enough stock for it to be regular use anyway, with it being stated to be a limited edition film funding the improvement of the formula.
I disagree, on days where the lighting is flat and uninspiring you can shoot phoenix and get rich colours and lots of contrast. However if you want to capture the scenery 'as-is' then yeah terrible choice of stock
@@doublenegative4real sorry but the samples just don't do it for me, I tried the cine still 800 color and it was awful also ( I did like the cine still xx BW variable ISO..

call me insane.... but I kinda like em.
they're abstract in a good way.
Haha thanks! I like a few of them. Maybe I’ll try it again
Im currently mid roll of committing the same crime, tho often i expose at 500 and 640 ISO even tho pushing 2 stops. Well see what comes out..
Should be interesting
Was expecting them to be much worse tbf.
Haha if there’s enough light they can look cool. Sunset especially

Not of my liking
a very polite critique! But yeah you either like this film or you don't
