I used to sell newspapers on the island on Westwood Blvd just North of Wilshire Blvd. Also did newspaper sales in front of Westwood Drug. That was in the late 50s early 60s. I remember when there were no high rises. For awhile there were two tall buildings on Westwood and Wilshire only. I see a lot more now. The classic white building used to be the Bank of America. I remember going there with my mom. Westwood Village still looks great. I moved away around 1968. I have great memories of it.
The boarded up brick building was A Rite Aid as long as I've known. Decades ago I worked at the Mann Theaters. Used to be 5 individual Theaters. Main 2 were Mann Fox theater with the tower and across Bruin theater. Both were used a lot in Movie premieres big celebrities. I worked at the lower 3, National theater and other 2. All three are gone I think and 2 were replaced by bigger buildings. Sad thing about Westwood Village is there are not a lot of stores that cater to the huge student population. Sure there are Starbucks, In N Out, CVS, Target. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods. But that can be found in any middle class suburb. Many ways Westwood village is not a college town.
Cities are kinda weird. Chill for the most part, but you do see crazy things happen the more often you're out n about in them. Actually *saved* someone, once. Country folk can be pretty wild, too, as I'd grown up in rural areas and moved into the city life about 3 years ago. Anyway, I love these videos. The amount of history in each location you go.. this is weird, but you can *feel* an aura within every location.
Oh thank you Ken! I was so hoping you would have a tour of Westwood Village, one of my favorite places around UCLA, my school in the early 90's!!
My pleasure!
That was such a beautiful video! I feel replenished. Great story telling and boundless wisdom shared. Truely awesome.
It's a good video, but what boundless wisdom are you talking about? The fact that a donut shop is opening?
Was a beautiful walk! Hooray for the technology cause we still watch videos from LA!:)
Thanks for watching

That looks like one of the most pedestrian friendly districts you filmed in Los Angles. It looks good too.
