Finding meaning through creation. Exploring what really matters.
Hope you guys enjoy this short film I put together. It's truly grown into a collection of my life the past year. Exploring the creative process through video and photography. Cinematography captured with the power of LUMIX cameras. The capacity of cinematography with the LUMIX S5IIX is incredible. Capturing light in cinematic sequences. Color grading Panasonic vlog footage in DaVinci Resolve. Testing new mediums while using BASE jumping as a foundation. Loving every minute of it.
Everything shot on Lumix S5IIX, Lumix S5.

From the cinematography to the story line. I can relate to so much of this, and I can truly say the gift to be creative has saved me so many times over. Great video, brother.

Its so true what you said about social media and how it affects the very expression of whatever creative outlet someone is pursuing. I really value those who have a genuine sense about what they share. I can only imagine how hard it is to stay true to what you want to create and share, and not chase the views or the ad money or whatever may alter the original concept or plan. Im always pleasantly surprised when i come across a rare person who has some genuine and unique insights and are willing to share them with a bit of vulnerability. I think your channel is fantastic.

All creativity originates in truth. And all truth originates in uniqueness. No two things in life are identical. When they are forced to be, truth, uniqueness, and creativity become convoluted. That convolution then results in dysfunction.
I would caution you, Devon, to be careful about surrounding yourself exclusively with people who think like you, even if that likemindedness involves being contrary to mainstream mindsets. A small group of people who think exactly the same is no less potentially destructive to the truth than a much larger group is. The dynamic is still operational in both groups.

This is very insightful. Thank you for sharing. It’s too easy to find comfort in those we share the most with, often limiting growth in areas we wouldn’t expect. While times of hardship and struggle require us to resolve problems within our self and environment, giving us the growth we hadn’t expected, but were looking for all along.

@@DevMcLaughlinWith the key word in your reply being “comfort”. Evolution is driven by adversity, and is accomplished through the transcendence of adversity. Adversity is never comfortable, nor is the oftentimes grueling task of transcending it. Societies were established in order to expedite the evolutionary process through the concerted efforts of groups, and to bring greater ease (comfort) to those efforts. They were not established as a means of circumventing the evolutionary process. But that is exactly how they have devolved, with comfort, not evolution, being the ultimate goal.

Completely agree, though I’d wager societies shifted split the evolutionary process in two, the physical remaining static (from a largely biological perspective) with the intellectual human psyche taking over and continuing to evolve.

@@DevMcLaughlinHence, the reason that you and I are communicating in this mode and the Sentinelese Tribe, for example, isn’t.
I’m glad you used the word “static”. Because of the thermodynamic law of entropy, nothing that is physical remains in a negatively uninfluenced state for very long. Entropic forces continually degrade and disorganize the integrity of everything that is physical unless counteracted upon appropriately. And even then, that counteraction is ultimately limited in its effectiveness to stave off the effects of entropy on any given organism, be it primitive or imprimitive.
In Robert Pirsig’s book called Lila, he discusses the differences between static and dynamic quality. He likens dynamic quality to hearing a new song for the first time and being extremely emotionally impacted by it. And he likens static quality to hearing that same song for the hundredth time and not feeling the same level of emotion.
Static quality is experienced from repetitive routine. Dynamic quality is experienced from traversing unchartered waters for the very first time. And the latter is where you will discover both truth and creative inspiration.

The last thing I would have expected for my day today was having a conversation so unique through a place like TH-cam. Thank you.
I love the way you’ve laid this out, in tandem with acknowledging parallel physical principles to those psychological, it seems the overlap is far greater than we still recognize.
As something that may sound like a critique, but I feel more a compliment to this thought, the nature of restrictions placed upon creative boundaries and pursuits, be them temporal, influential or physical, tend to breed greater fidelity in creative ideation than lesser. Broadly, humans tend to find ingenuity where options for resolution are fewer than greater.
