This has got to be on of the best safari videos on TH-cam - not necessarily for the photography advice (equipment, techniques, etc.), but more for the value, the importance, the mental state one should be in, and the life changing effects of an African safari. Thanks, Ron.

Outstanding presentation, Ron. Your knowledge, your enthusiasm, your pictures. Any one of these three would make the time spent by the viewer worthwhile. And you give us all three!

One of the best presentations on wildlife photography I´ve ever seen, if not the best! He is so passionate and funny at the same time. The pictures are also stunning, even if some of them aren´t technically perfect. I´d like to see more!

Great presentation! Great energy, accurate sound effects, catchy story-telling!
I was doing one of those things where you have videos playing in the background but this caught my attention early on in and found I was actually paying attention. I watch all my videos incognito and rarely interact with any but this presentation deserves a thumbs up! :D

Dear Ron, Extraordinary presentation. Many of your photos are better than mine. I was born in S.Africa, am a Wits U (Joburg) eng. grad. I hitch-hiked most of SA and jeeped across Kalahari (4x4 essential). Slept with lions - literally. Visited most of So. Africa reserves (Kruger, Kafue, Etosha, Kgalagadi, Wankie, Hluhluwe,...). Also camped/hiked most of US National Parks in West (whitewater kayaked Grand Canyon). So may I be so bold as to offer a few observations vis-a-vis So. Africa, which you alluded to at the end of your presentation, for the benefit of readers of this.
We share a common goal -- conserve wildlife by encouraging visitors.
    1. Safari to most SA parks is actually cheaper than US Nat Parks (sans airfare and car rent). And about 1/10 of E.Africa packaged "safari." Surf over to www.sanparks.org.
    2. Most So. Africa parks allow "self-drive." (Rent a car, $40/day, at Joburg Airport.) Drive Kruger, etc. where you want, when you want, linger as long as you want at any waterhole, river,... Dust? Yes, but you can roll up the windows. Equipment space? You have the whole back seat... and boot (sorry, trunk). Tripod? You're right -- impractical. But ever tried a window clamp? Perfect, in your own car -- a MUST for video (bean bag awkward to pan).
    3. Most So. Africa parks have "viewpoints" where you can exit vehicle. Usually atop a hill. Tripod a must here. Especially for video.
    4. Larger So. Africa parks have "wilderness walks" with armed ranger. Also "catered" tent camp overnight hiking "wilderness trails."
    5. NO native inhabitants in parks. No Masai with spears and cattle. Wildlife 100% free. Rangers with assault rifles take care of poachers.
    6. Guided night "drives" offered at most camps. Night wildlife very different. Many predators hunt at night as you well know.
Yes, there are packaged "safaris" and private game parks. But I can't afford them.
Also, your stills are superb. But animals move. Video captures that. With inexpensive software I combine video, stills, music, dubbing, maps, annotation into a comprehensive show. That I can send friends and family on a DVD for pennies. (Animals not only move, they make interesting sounds too.)
Hope this helps. I have started an "African Safari on a Budget" meetup group, in San Diego has Meetup page on-line with visiting and photography advice for readers in Discussions.

Love the enthusiasm but there are serious technical issues with some of the shots. Shutter speed slightly too low (not significant enough to have been intentional), camera movement blur, and blown highlights.
