I remember that day. My daughter was 6 months old. As I was watching I still had hope and optimism for her future. When she was in high school, she asked me my feelings about that day for a school project. She’s 20 years old now. Her generation never knew the horror of that day. Now they see and experience so much more. Each generation sees more than the one before.

I remember asking my dad about it for school in 2002. It was a pretty basic reaction, honestly. He was in the Army at the end of the Cold War so he had never really seen death.
I was starting 6th grade in 2001 and I remember many teachers refusing to turn on the TV, but other teachers thought it was important to show the kids what was happening. Kids in my class were crying cuz they didn't know what was going-on, other than a panicked announcement from the principal on the PA system. Some kids were afraid the school would be attacked, but others were quick to rationalize that our school was too small of a target. (Silly in retrospect, but we were 6th graders lol)

My dad once said it was really shocking for him for him to fully realize that I never lived through this ( I wouldn’t be born for another three years). He has been a reporter for the AP in South Carolina since the 90s, and he often spoke of the entire office being in complete silent shock when the special report came, and again when he saw the second plane crash into the center. Then it was immediately back to work. It was sheer chaos, calling people, gathering information, it was like that one scene in SpongeBob where SpongeBob’s brain forgot someone’s name, though obviously more sad than funny.
It’s honestly very surreal that this happened so soon before I was born and yet it affected so many people before me in ways I couldn’t ever begin to imagine or understand.

@@dbdb32. I heard a lot of kids channels actually didn’t stop programming, and I think Cartoon Network was one of them. It’s more likely that they put on more lighter fare, switched a couple of programs on the schedule or just didn’t air toonami. Because maybe I’m crazy, but I don’t think people would want to watch a show with explosions and destruction during this time. /lh
That being said, if kids WB’s version of toonami existed during this time, which I’m not sure if it did or not, that did air at 3 PM and was on the WB, which is a national network of some sort that would theoretically preempt kids cartoon programming for news coverage. So maybe that was the thing that got interrupted.
      Hope this helps?

I know that, at the time, I couldn't stop watching coverage of the attacks but every so often I did flip over to see what, if anything else was happening. I was sorta paying attention to the sports channels because clearly there wasn't going to be any games played on this day and I wanted to see what their immediate responses would be( Major League Baseball cancelled their games for the rest of that week for example, the NFL postponed its games for that week also ). I was kinda peeking around to see what the reactions were to other networks that weren't news stations just to see what, if anything, and how they were reacting to the unfolding events of that day.

Same, pretty much. I was in 6th. My friends' teachers had the TV on the whole time, but mine thought it was better to keep us in the dark and let the kids sort it out. Literally, there were kids trying to get other kids to stop crying because nobody knew what was happening while the teacher sat in stunned silence. For a while she left the room to go watch TV in the Teacher's break room with the other idiot teachers

Disneyland was a bit subdued which did impact on the trip a bit. I still met Mickey Mouse though and got a great picture with him because Disney land was deserted. Security was a lot tighter but queues were almost non existent, so all clouds etc.

Crazy to think that at the time of the attack those towers had only been around for 24 years as they were completed in 1977
If it's true, could you imagine 50 thousand people in a high-rise building jumping to their death? When you watch documentaries about the event you hear people who are perceived to be there. Talk about how there was dead bodies everywhere not just from folks jumping but also from folks being hit by debris as they were walking on their commute to work on the sidewalks. Could you imagine the PTSD if you would be living with to this day after enduring such traumatic occurrences over and over in such a short amount of time especially if you were a first responder
First tower it was hit at 8:45 at 9:03 the second tower suffer the same occurrence as and at 9:55, the second tower that was hit collapsed you truly don't understand at first that all this happened and the span of less than two hours pretty much at the beginning of a working class business day
