Great video Jeff! I had a chance to by a 2010 low mileage 990 and wish I didn't pass on it! 🤷🏼‍♂ Looks like you're enjoying your new surroundings! Keep up the content and riding! Take Care! 👍🏻🍻🇺🇸🏍

Just getting into Adventure riding, bought my for Adventure bike after riding 25 years on cruisers, primarily Harley's. So I bought a 22 Pan America 3 weeks ago and just added a new skid plate and some other safety pieces to protect the bike and myself with MX boots and MX gloves. So how does begin? Do I just go look for a forestry road and try my luck and limited skills? Or should I take a course? Thanks.

How much do you not want to scratch it? Sometimes, people don't realize that offroad riding is not really like pavement riding. When offroad you eventually will drop the bike.. it will likely be some slow silly crash, but it will hit the ground.
I would ride around in your yard a bit to get the feeling of the bike on looser terrain and try some dirt Forrest service roads after.. your brain will keep you at reasonable speeds for a while until you're comfortable. Try your starts and stops alot and just the basics like you would with a road bike, but off pavement.

@@AdventureJeff269 none, other than in a 4x4 truck, on a motorcycle none!

@@AdventureJeff269 I am guessing it will get scratched by branches and other things. But I assume all adv riders go through a heart attack the first time they drop their brand new bike, but comes with off roading. Unfortunately I live in a condo so I don't have a yard to practice in so I will need to look for some forestry roads. Thank you.

You are right about the first drop. In the bright side, ADV bikes a re notoriously tough so usually you just walk away with a scratch. I have dumped my 990 hundreds of times and never any major damage. Just take it slow, work on your fundamentals, and have fun. Don't get ballsy until you have time on the bike and get comfortable. Stay safe!
