    Very cool to see some big 'ol SD90's on the end of that first downhill train.

    • @aone6540
      @aone6540 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are SD90 chassis you see - they have been deranged of their original motor.
      The last beasts on the curve were. SD80MACS / Conrail Cadillacs, but sadly there are now being scrapped.
      Search the tube for "sd80Mac madness" to see a real monster coal train on this line. 45KHP.

    When I visited in about 1989 I payed nothing to visit the park. It should not cost anything to walk up the steps. The only cost should be to ride the little vehicular. 12 dollars is a ridiculous amount to charge to visit a park. Most parks cost nothing. You can walk right in.

      The Horseshoe Curve is privately owned by the Railroad museum in Altoona, and by Norfolk Southern Corp. It costs money to maintain this site. It does not receive money from federal, state, or County. Therefore the fee.

    • @artkemberling7764
      @artkemberling7764 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The admission fee also gets you admission to the Railroaders Museum in Altoona.

    JT, next visit you should stay at The Station Inn in Cresson. Sit on the porch and watch trains with other railfans. Talk with a REAL steam train engineer/owner Tom.
    No TV's but real good home cooking for breakfast. Less cost too.

    • @JawTooth
      @JawTooth  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The CSX unit probably wanted to see the summit of the Alleghenies at some location other than Sand Patch. One can imagine all the items they have traveled here so for the oddity award today the former wood chip cars now earn their keep hauling demolition debris which includes new construction rubbish. HIRR is the Hainesville Industrial RR in that New Jersey namesake city. According to their website it is headed for subsidiary Creekside landfill near Toledo OH. Whatever the car loading the trains they makeup and the sounds they make certainly make for an experience for all who are present to witness it
