He looked like his had a bit of an odd throwing motion but he sure was accurate on some of those passes. Any qb would have been proud of that pass for Breakers second touchdown.
What a ballgame! The offensive juggernaut of the New Orleans Breakers goes to 5-0 with the OT win. Buford Jordan, who later played for the Saints, was the best RB on the team. Dupree had a few moments sprinkled in with the injuries, but Big Buford was the best they had. The Saints could sure use a Dan Ross, I tell ya.
This brand of football is so much better than any XFL or newfangled, ersatz USFL of today. I guess at that time there was a propitious good supply of players, and more importantly good coaches. A creative solution to their financial problems might have been to start mid-summer, with the USFL title game on Thanksgiving weekend. That way the USFL would play more games in traditional football season, while not completely taking on the NFL head on. A clairvoyant might have scheduled games on Thursday night and Sunday night.
It's too bad they couldn't show highlights of these USFL games from the early 80s during the games these days. I remember Marv Levy also as head coach of the Buffalo Bills.
Mark Schilleen was the new model for fullbacks back in the day. he lead the way for Tom Rathman, Daryl Johnston, etc. Tampa Bay wasn't the only team with a pro wrestling connection. Breakers NG Jeff Gaylord would also go back to the ring after the season.
It looks to me that Johnnie Walton had Warren Moon or Russell Wilson type of arm talent. It is a shame the opportunities weren't there for him in the 70's. He could have been an all time great.
You can download it off my channel. There are plenty of free online software you can use to download it. Google it and you will see. "How to download TH-cam videos."
Simply amazing 👏 real men very dangerous Marcus Dupree much to young to be playing with all them grown ass men Lynn Swan wasn't as good in play by play
Well your memory is a bit short. Over 187 players signed with the NFL, including numerous Hall of Famers as well as 15 players going to the Pro Bowl after the league folded its first year. So your "meh" is just your opinion.
@@USFLForever Correct. The meh is just my opinion. And my memory is clear concerning Evans. 7-9 as a starter with The Bears, meh. He did not have what it took to secure a starting position on ANY NFL team after the USFL, straight back up. The USFL was his speed and it fit him well Over a career 52 TD's/74 INT's 63% PR, we can all read his Wikipedia. If he was better than I remember, it would not seem so looking at his stats, meh. Not on anyone's list of "must have" or "fantasy" players that I know of, meh. My memory's OK, and when I look at his Wiki page, my opinion is not baseless. So yeah, meh.
Thank you for posting. Videos like this take me back to being a kid in the 80’s. L
That's my cousin Buford Jordan! Would go on to play for the Saints too.
Moved Buford. He was the one who kept the breakers going.
@@USFLForever yep! I'm interested to see how the new breakers will do.
I was an avid Birmingham Stallions fan during the original USFL days!! So glad it’s back!!
I was an LA Express season ticket holder. I don't think it's really back unfortunately. Seems to me that it's designed to be more of a TV show.
@@garyodom6574 Agreed. Not the same thing as what we watched in the 80's
It wasn’t back, they just used the names. Most teams never even played in their “home” city/state.
@@steveswangler6373 I don't think that was their [USFL] long term plan
The Stallions were a cool team, with coach Rollie Dotsch.
Johnny Walton was a good QB. We appreciated his effort in the Boston area
The USFL is where he really shined.
He looked like his had a bit of an odd throwing motion but he sure was accurate on some of those passes. Any qb would have been proud of that pass for Breakers second touchdown.
RIP Keith Jackson!
I'm so glad there is going to be another USFL team in New Orleans.
I miss "Americas team". Glad to see them back.
@@USFLForever Can you find games with the breakers vs wranglers & outlaws?
@@tonyarceneaux286 They are hard to find but the USFL Library has ALL the games. I wish I could purchase it.
Marcus DuPree could have been one of the best ever if he stayed healthy in the NFL
Had he gone to college and developed more also. His body was not prepared for the pounding of pro football
@@steveswangler6373 He did go to college he played for Barry Switzer at OU 1982-1983
Who could never forget Herschel DuPree !!

Yep that's my cousin!
But the Saints from the USFL did get Jim Mora, Sam Mills and Bobby Hebert.
@@tonyarceneaux286 And Vaughan Johnson.
@@buhbuhjaychampagne1706 Forgot him
Vince Evans vs. Johnnie Walton. This was a great game. Walton went 29-43 with 440 yards passing and 4 TDs. Breakers win in OT.
Johnny Walton was fun an to watch

This game had Woodrow Wilson for the Breakers and Glenn Ford for the Blitz

Who gave a thumbs up for the fact the officials wore shorts indoors?
I saw that!! I forgot that they wore those league wide.
I gave a THUMBS UP.👍

+Kevin Moore Correct Kevin. Unfortunately Jeff Gaylord would move on to live a life of crime robbing banks.
+USFL Forever all too true. I forgot when I made this post that Marcus DuPree had a short lived wrestling career as well.
Kevin Moore What about Mike Alstott?
I know Jeff Gaylord by watching his matches. They call him the Missouri Tiger.
It looks to me that Johnnie Walton had Warren Moon or Russell Wilson type of arm talent. It is a shame the opportunities weren't there for him in the 70's. He could have been an all time great.
I have ALOT of USFL league merch. It was a cool league, that died too soon!
New Orleans only became a part of the USFL when the Breakers moved from Boston.
Does anyone have this game on dvd or where i can get a copy??

GEAUX BREAKERS!!
I recall the Breakers that year , they would have pounded the Saints in a game
'84 was the best season. Unfortunately injuries to Dupree hurt them.
If the USFL didn't sue the NFL, they would have been around quite a few more years.
Officials allowed to wear shorts indoors? Guess they were afraid the Superdome's air conditioning might malfunction.
With knee-high tube socks to match.
I was at this game but I don’t remember the referees wearing shorts.
Same! lmao
I have a autographed pendant thing me breakers
Make offer

Lynn Swann didn't do play by play, he did color
Just like I remembered it, kind of meh. Vince Evans, yeah...... USFL, and a career (I guess) as a backup. Kinda says it all.
