Web guns and Heavy Webbers were included in Confrontation, the precursor to Necromunda, but ammo was the big problems as it was randomly traded.
Interesting. Today I learned. Thanks 😊
Confrontation is a great game, my friends and I got a lot of milage out of that one. None of us ever got a webber but one of my friends got a conversion beamer and I got a distortion cannon - we had to roll up new gangs shortly after that...
The solvent joke got a hearty chuckle out of me
😅 I'm glad
Later, somewhere in 6th edition or so, Forge World gave rules for Eldar vehicles armed with web weapons. I played in a 2000 points fluffy-tournament and got destroyed by someones web blasting Eldars that absolutely destroyed my army of 6 Dreadnoughts.
Damn Eldar 😅
It's mentioned below that webbers were in the Adeptus Arbites list in Citadel Journal, along with the rhino-derived Castigator. This was part of a skirmish campaign they did called Covert X, about Space Marine scouts who've gone rogue to stir up the populace against the corrupt authorities. Webbers were great because a lot of the scenarios involved angry rioting mobs (5 civvies to a base), so webbers were an efficient way of dealing with them until they can get a booting from Wh40k's very own Judge Dredds
It's telling how the 2nd edition core books didn't even bother illustrating the web weapons, or reusing the illustrations from Rogue Trader.
Cool video! Web guns and pistols actually also exist in the current version of Necromunda: Necromunda Underhive. There they are actually not bad because a webbed enemy can be coup de graced.
Thank you
I used to give 2 of my assault marines web pistols, crash in and web everything then dispatch with ease....god I loved 2nd addition
Your heretical use of rabbits for bears has been noted traitor. 😂
😆
yes, but a hedgehog is even not a hog? so he had a gene test on those rabbits AND if he had us toled the inch and feet of this rabbits ;)
we will see, a 12 Feet Rabbit comes near a Bear ? =)
I believe the Heavy Webber was listed at 50 points in the Dark Millenium chart
The citadel journal article for adepts Arbitrs had the Cadtigstor tank with the heavy web gun but different rules… flamethrower templates
And a web gun for 15points with differing rules from the pistol
That's great. Thanks for letting me know.
10:15 good to know that even in M40 the 1911 is still being used in active service. That's a record for the ages.
I was excited to see a Webber included in the current Adeptus Arbites list. Much simpler rules now of course. Not particularly powerful but I like it for the fluff.
Love the animations. I was around for their era, but I don't recall ever using a webber either in 40k 2nd or Necromunda - I'd completely forgotten they could be used against vehicles, now I have this glorious mental image of a mekboy taking out Imperial Knights AT-AT style by webbing their legs up.
That's a great image. I wish the heavy webber had a points cost. I would love to have tried it.
@@Miniscape-wh40k You could house rule it. Just add-up all the points for the heavy weapons, then divide for an average.
SPACE MARINES (Ultramarines/Dark Angels)
Auto Cannon +25pts
Heavy Bolter +15pts
Lascannon +45pts
Missile Launcher +45pts
Multi-melta +65pts
Heavy Plasma Gun +40pts
Total Points 235 ÷ 6 = 40 (39.1 rounded up)
Heavy Webber +40pts
Granted, when using this formula with Orks the cost is only 22, but that's about right when you compare the price disparities between them and Marines (Ex.there's a 28 point difference for the Multi-melta).
@@Mordante69 good idea
I came because it’s second edition, I stay for the oldhammer stop-motion animation. Bravo Sir!
😊
even webbing a single model from a large squad can be annoying because they still have to maintain unit coherency, so cannot really move forward if one of their models is webbed
I tell you what I really miss - The old second edition Power swords - the ones with the curved end on a flat blade and could cut only forwards. The old Assault marines had them - need to knock some up on my 3d printer.
I still have one or two on sprue 😉
I love your videos, man. If I see a new one pop up, it's an instant watch for me. There is such an incredible history and nostalgia--even for things I did not experience--that your videos explore, and it is fantastic. The calm pace is soothing and welcoming. Keep up the great work!!
Dude I am overwhelmed by your kind words. I am glad I can sooth you with talk of nostalgia 😅 thanks so much for thr support.
I'm five months late! Praise the algorithm gods!
@@Miniscape-wh40k likes for the algo God, Comments for the Algo Throne ! =)
I don't nessisarily think the heavy webber is over powered, disabling a transport for the full game is similar to a lascannon blowing it up, it just needs to be an appropriate amount of points. Its a shame they weren't included in any of the codexes though.
I could see a world where trapping the guys inside made it more relevant. I have no idea what happens to them when the transport is destroyed in 2e though lol
Red pandas are pandas and pandas are bears...
Oh this was really good. And original!! Totally forgot about these web guns! That's what my 90s Harlequin is holding! Bring 'em back I say, sounds like lots fun to have this weapon I reckon!
Great stuff mate. The Heavy Webber sounds like a nasty piece if archeotech from the Dark Age of Technology. Loved the stop animation and this is a genius idea for a series - loads of other wacky weapons in Wargear for sure!
Glad you liked it my friend. There's plenty of strange wargear to explore from 2nd ed and I intend to make some more videos about it!
It's kinda neat they brought the web gun back for Darktide
Oh my, that is a deep cut
"something that is recognizable or familiar only to passionate enthusiasts of a specified area."
😍 I'm glad you see it
The Baby Sylvanian's were so cute. I had Girl-Cousins, so got to play with them as a Kid. They had little Shops and Houses and stuff for them as well.
Big agree
I'm pretty surprised you didn't mention Stranglewebs at all. They had very similar (essentially identical, minus mentioning some things that allowed a save) rules. They were also reintroduced briefly in 5th edition, though they were just a pinning weapon there.
Oh yeah. Nevermind. Thanks for bringing them to my attention. I however am not surprised since I know very little 😅
Loving the stop motion effects in this Video. Must have taken an age to get them done.
Yeah it did. Thanks.
Plus the cost of all that toothpaste 😁
awesome video my dude, loving the stop go animations as well
Thanks Jim. Glad you like it 😊
I appreciate your honesty regarding the rabbits.
It's the best policy
4:16 ah, the musket. I do miss 2nd Ed.
That reminds me of the stupid combo I used back when I was 11 and playing second edition: a Tech-Marine on a bike armed with a Graviton Gun. Very similar rules (if it hits then the model isn't dead but is essentially removed from the game) and had a longer range. I think it had to be a Tech-Marine because of a restriction on the cardboard wargear card though it doesn't look like that rule was mentioned in the wargear book, and the bike was just because he Gotta Go Fast. Someday I'll go back and see if that combo was actually legal 😅
Sounds beardy as hell, love it. The Graviton gun was banned in GW stores I think. But putting it kn a bike is a new level 😅
One of the first models I bought was the Rogue Trader "old pirate". I had no idea what his pistol was supposed to be, it wasn't until a few years ago I learned it was supposed to be a web pistol. Sadly the model has no place in modern 40K.
I disagree though his weapon would down graded to a lasgun or laspistol, hive scum maybe
@@CDMJDMHHC Recently found another official source that says the old pirate's pistol is a hand flamer. I've started playing Grimdark Future Firefight, so he's going to get some play time :)
2:48 Another day nearer the battle,
So drink up my lads and look brave,
‘Cos every day nearer the battle
Is another day nearer the grave
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Webbers of both types are really meant for narrative/roleplay purposes and just didn't survive the change of focus from 2nd-through-4th editions. They really are much more at home in Necromunda (where their intended use cases are much more likely)... and would probably fit right in with Inquisitor.
Are they in Inquisitor, at all? I never played that particular game but I can well imagine an Inquisitor more interested in intelligence gathering and counter-espionage than immediate purging carrying a glue gun to take prisoners for later questioning.
Thanks for the comment 😊. Necromunda does seem the place for them. I haven't played inquisitor unfortunately.
Can you imagine ever in 30k millennia they still used 1911 pistol.
I had completely forgotten about web guns, at least with Imperial forces and we never bothered with those when I played 40k back then anyway probably because it would bog things down. But what about Eldar Warp Spiders and their web spinner guns? Of course, wire mesh is much deadlier then glue.
Man I'd totally forgotten Warp Spiders
@@Miniscape-wh40k so has GW
@@Triceratopping That's real sad. Those were a cool unit.
I remember webbers. For some reason I don't remember them being Space Marine weapons though, and thought they were Eldar.
Warp spiders had web weapons for sure
@@Miniscape-wh40k Not quite the same thing. Warp spiders have a mono-filament web that slices & dices.
One of the first games I used the Warp spiders in, my friend mostly played Orks, and he used to get sloppy about maintaining dispersal of his blobs. Squad of 5 spiders & Exarch warped in, opened up and pureed 28 out of 30 grotz in one turn.
Of course, the grotz probably only cost 1/4 as many points as the Spiders.
I think this definitely counts as a heavy web-on...
I was certain it was in the Dark Millennium rules for vehicle conversions but, as you say, it’s not there either.
The only web weapon you missed (arguably) was the Malcadon Web Spinner used by the original Necromunda Spyrers. We recently played a campaign of Necromunda Community Edition and it was reasonably annoying - it’s range could be increased and it was attached to a character who could easily increase their movement characteristic and was always outnumbered.
I am certain I have missed something with such a huge game. The focus was on the 2nd ed wergear book mainly. Thanks for commenting 😊
I could be wrong but don't Genestealer cult have these weapons still??🤔
Indeed they do. Not sure if they have the heavy webber or not.
Cool, so are we making a new xenos race the Rabbit Bears of Miniscape?
Why not? And totally unrelated, let's fetch the flamer, the heavy flamer 🔥
well me never played ths or play enny one who might had it and think most pepel might think its a flamer or hand flamer and uesed that whay got go thew my minis and see iif enny had the pistel hand gun like the grav gun will never get nither will see more as you post more
I hope it was useful
1:07 OH no, that are these cute apearing Bears, the dangerous mutated HasenBär ! had you have a look at those teeth!
and they are verry fast, ofcourse the littleone is fastest as it is with space marines! the old ones should bekome +1 to movement ! ?
less mass more fast AND they are so old that they have so many experiance! +2 on ?, please what is experiance on the Datasheet???
I see you're a connoisseur of not just Warhammer 40k, but also Sylvainan Families! Don't worry i wont tell anyone Mathew, if that's your real name that is.😉
Matthew not Mathew 😉
@@Miniscape-wh40k Spelled the same as the Apostle and not the common spelling, i wasn't sure but i'm pleased you have told me! Do you know what your name means? In case you don't i shall tell you, it means "Gift of God" how very auspicious. I like you Matthew, you have a good vibe about you😁👍Maybe you are a gift from the God Emperor of mankind, to the Warhammer 40k community. 🤔
@@thewanderingfool4435 thanks buddy. I knew it meant that but it is nice to have a reminder. I do wonder what your name means, the wandering fool. Is it something profound or as written? I think the former given your insightful messages.
@@Miniscape-wh40k Thank you! The Wandering Fool is very simple but very difficult to explain and put into words. Fool now a derogatory term was once seen as very special, it's where the court Jester came from. See once long long ago and almost lost to history now, the fool/jester of the court was the only one allowed to defy the king through humour! It was to humble the king and remind him of his humanity and short life; This was so the king could rule his people correctly and not succumb to greed and tyranny, by taking himself so serious as to have an ego out of control; This is why you see the fool card in tarot, only good luck finding a tarot reader who knows this.🤣The fool was the only one who could be trusted for this task as the fool, who was far from stupid was more importantly free from desire, hence incorruptible and free of earthly shortcomings/sin. Eventually the fool was seen as a treat to the corrupted and their schemes, so the fools were outcast & killed and left with no home, hence they wandered, ever watching, ever learning, ever teaching, waiting for the day when a true king will be born and when that day comes, the fool will return to guide that king. This is why in folklore you have Merlin & Arthur and all through literature you have sidekicks and as for fools you have wise hermits and wandering monks across all cultures. Sorry for the long answer and even this doesn't really explain anything, it just hints at it.😞
@@thewanderingfool4435 don't apologise. You have taught me something. Thank you!
🤓 eeeehhh, you'll find that the web pistol and webber do have profiles in 9th ed 40k. But they're only usable by Genestealer Cults. Zoink 🤓
Indeed, been there since 7th
yes, but house rule is, if you get one with webber it is to use by your guy ;)
Genestealer cult baby
Whast about the Andrew Lloyd Webber?
Ah yes that totally escaped me
