1996 w140 s600 v12 POURS OUT TRANSMISSION FLUID **what could it be**

  • So originally we thought it had to be the conductor plate on the s600 causing shifting issues. Today I filled her up with a little fluid and took her on a short spin. Unfortunately shortly after she was unloading fluid. Could this be the conductor plate or something else easy to fix? Let me know what you think

    If I were you, I'd walk backwards. Check the TCM under the hood for Tranny Fluid. Then check the wire that leads from the TCM to the Coupler in the Tranny. Change the Coupler AND O rings. They are NOTORIOUS for going bad. Drop your Conductor Plate and check for broken seals and gaskets. You should find your answer somewhere in there. If not, the 722.6 transmissions are dirt cheap. Have some one slap one in for the low low. On another note, let me warn you Pete. You are looking down the barrel of a loaded shotgun. 2 Coil packs at $600-$1300 A PIECE are smiling at you......plus 24 platinum spark plugs. When you do a tune up, those packs are going to fail and the misfires are going to be upsetting. Put some bread away for them NOW. Keep up the great content and congrats on 1000!

      @@adriannyasia Nope. Thats reman and 3rd party prices. (I wouldnt touch third party) $1300-$1700 from the stealership. I didnt bring up the voltage transformer on the intake manifold. Another $600-$1000. (Reman and stealership) Only one dude doing quality jobs remaning them. The parts are out thete but folks are terrified pf the MOSFIT drivers amd printed circuit boards. The coils are nothing. TONS of money to be made.

      @@datdamndavisboy But are those prices for 06 and up? That sounds a bit steep for a 96. Theres repair kits out there that can save you a ton of bank- if you have the heart to do it.

      @@adriannyasia I stand corrected. The coil packs didn't start on S600s until 2000. The 1996 S600 coils are different and considerably cheaper. There are kits but most dont last and most times reek havoc on your Voltage Transformer giving you TWO headaches and more cost. I would LOVE for you to take a shot at it. Currently, the only guy successful at doing is Clark Rupp of V12icPack, I've bought a remaned coil pack and a Voltage transformer from him. Both have been quality. Talk about monopoly!!!

    so was it the front transmission seal and a bad conductor plate with the addition of too much fluid? I have a 96 S600 and it has the same problem.

      I tried to change my transmission oil but I stripped the drain plug.

      There's a lot of options with a bolt like that. You could buy a stripped bolt extractor or even have someone weld a nut onto it if it's real bad. Don't give up it will come out

      I went to the dealer and I ordered the screw.
      Years ago I had a patient who got crushed under a car while working I am terrified of going on a Jack must crawl under it best I can.
      Call the dealer and they wanted $900 for the transmission service which I don't need and that doesn't include the removal of bad screw.

    if your friends has a 5 speed w140 it should be the same dipstick it doesn't need to be v12

      @petescarport  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The dipstick was from my 1995 s500 so it was not the 5 speed. I'm going to order one. I think you may have nailed it on this and as always appreciate it. Just so you know I let car cool down and stated again.....I drove it for a mile or so and came back. No leaks at all. Then took it for another quick spin and she was back to pouring out. Maybe this will make sense that it takes time to make it to the cooler hose that broke

    how much fluid did you put in before you took it for a spin

    • @petescarport
      @petescarport  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know I put way too much. I started with a quart and drove it no issues. Then added another quart and half and that's when it started to leak. I think you may be right on the line. I'm going to get it up in air.

      @@petescarport if i remember right there is a breathe r hole on top of tranny so maybe you could be lucky and it is venting out there.you need to get instructions on checking the levels of atf cause it expands and contracts with heat so you need to know the temp of fluid,and i think you need to have motor running when measuring so it is a lot more complicated that checking motor oil ,so get full detailed instructipons and follow them pete
