    I am living vicariously through you. I wish I had done this when I was your age. I lived on the water surrounded by marinas and boats and never got into sailing.

    i just started watching your channel and love it. Everyday i think about my last day at work, when I will step onto my sailboat, weigh anchor and peace out. but I really wanted to comment on your great tune selection for the sailing shots. very cool.
    i know this video came out over a year ago, but i noticed you are still publishing videos. keep it up!

    Hears a tip for condensation, put x2-x3 layers of cling film over the windows leaving a 1"-2" gap inbetween,that stops warm air from hitting the cold window, then forming condensing into H20. :)

      NotYourEverydayTrav very. We're in this bar called "Snappas" right now in Marsh Harbour Bahamas. I'd say it's very fulfilling.

    Enjoying your journey with you....your boat is doing well with the weather you have had. Some good advice offered also. I like your Safety Mesh but don't understand why you keep your "boarding gates" open when underway, especially with that cute lil' Mini-Yorkie on deck. Brought back lotta good memories of our 2..PS....You two have Awesome attitudes....never change...stay Happy......

      I keep them locked at all times now! I definitely understand the importance, even of the structure of the entire lifelines as a whole when locked.

  • @sailingsolar
    @sailingsolar 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Don't know if you have this but it's always good to have an spare anchor ready to deploy on a minutes notice. Should you find yourself dragging or adrift for some reason. I kept mine mounted on the stern pulpit w/160 ft of road, ready in a minutes notice. Good to see you mak'in some distances.
    Great video! Thank for sharing.

    • @WickedSalty
      @WickedSalty  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We have a spare fortress anchor for sure! Unfortunately there is not space to keep it on the bow, and it is already weighed down so much with the 22 lbs delta plow anchor and 60 feet of galvanized steel chain. But it is readily available in the port cockpit locker. Thanks for the comment sailing solar!

    Awesome. Take a booze cruise on the Fury if you make it all the way down to Key West! The crew will treat you guys right!

  • @lenfarneth
    @lenfarneth 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lol Mooring snatchers! I bet that was fun. I bet you also came to realize your anchor is a bit less drama.

    • @WickedSalty
      @WickedSalty  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Len Farneth less drama and we've seen some pretty bad mooring balls on our trip. I think I'd rather rely on some ground tackle that I know works!

    • @lenfarneth
      @lenfarneth 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You probably sleep well on the hook now but there are aps for android (I'm guessing for apple too) that alert you to drifting.

    Damp-rid and an oil lamp are a huge help on those days that you need to stay cooped up in the cabin. Those fish are called Menhaden aka pogies great bait. Get yourself a casting net for those guys they are great bait.

    After departing Stonington, did you sail through the race or North of Fisher's island?

  • @05Cat28
    @05Cat28 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Enjoying the vids. Try not to arrive at night, if you have a long day leave plan to in the dark and arrive in the light and take note of arrival features. Always have 2 or 3 safe anchorages for the route 1 or 2 shorter the intended one and then if things go well a farther one. Trouble comes when you push. Unless allowed, and it is allowed in some places, taking mooring freebies is frowned upon, I certainly wouldn't broadcast it on youtube, kind of like filming yourself lifting a candy bar at Walmart. Guilty!

    • @WickedSalty
      @WickedSalty  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. We always leave at O'dark thirty for the most part, before sunrise and we have ducked out in some cases for an anchorage shorter then expected. This late in the season there are fields of empty moorings everywhere. I would hardly say its comparable to theft of actual merchandise, especially when you are at the will of an unknown mooring tackle rather then your own ground tackle. To each his own.

      Wicked Salty It was the Harbour Master that saved your dingy. He might not "see" it the next time.

      ***** You must be a power boater. Real sailors help anyone in distress without putting themselves in it as well, I never click off my VHF period.

    That's almost normal here on the Columbia River. I remember the storm in 2007 when the winds began gusting to 155 mph. I had to crawl along the docks so as not to be blown off with an jack line.

    Why is your mainsail reefed?

  • @6663000
    @6663000 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Enjoying the videos so far... but I notice you're always sailing with your main reefed and hauled all the way in, even when it's only blowing like 10kts and even when you appear to be reaching.

    Is the same boat? Looks larger......I know it feels smaller to you guys, Do you have a plan to get to Calif.? You would love Catalina. And the Islands up the coast (except SAN CLEMENTE, U.S.NAVY USES IT TO SHOOT AT) Great place to see; would be "Alamitos Bay" Long Beach, take your dingy through "Naples"" canals"... Get ahold of Tom Poe.....He would help you find stuff.

  • @Aolen75

    Did you throw a line in a catch some dinner with that school of fish so close?
    and btw that dog of yours is so cute.

    • @WickedSalty
      @WickedSalty  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was trying to foul hook one and live line it off the boat, however I needed a sturdier rod at the time cause the flex in the one I was using wasn't working with it. I wasn't sure on the regulations of catching herring in NY, but I know in MA it's a big no no unless its a mistake and you let them go well. I don't think the stripers were hitting the lures next to them because there was so much live food there too. Lola's a cutie for sure!

    Those look like bunker which means you are likely in sewage. The reason they are going ‘belly up” is because the sea bass are striking from underneath.

      She goes on the deck more often then you would think! We have also trained her to use doggy pee pads in the cabin. Probably one of the least of our issues ;)
