  • This is a bike that was built by Paul Brodie and is a running replica of a 1919 Excelsior Board Track Racing Motorcycle. The originals ran speeds over 120 mph, and this replica will do at least that. Peter Gagan, the president of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America acted as a consultant on the project and is seen introducing it a party thrown at Paul's house on July 8th, 2007.

Thanks boys! Pete has been retired for quite a few years ago, and his passion for old bikes has been one that he has had since he was fourteen. It is something that transcends any borders or nationalities! The thing he loves the most is seeing other people enjoy all aspects of their own machines, and the love for these things that keeps the history alive.
    Keep the faith out there!

The concept of building a reproduction of a motorcycle where only a few pictures exist and those of only one side of the bike is overwhelming, to say the least. Members of the AMCA have watched with great interest and waited with baited breath for the completion of this motorcycle. My congratulations to all of those that participated in making this Excelsior a reality.

Thank goodness there are a few guys like Pete that can recreate something like this that would otherwise be lost forever. I never thought I would see or hear a monster like this OHC Excelsior live again!

Your father truly is a master. This motorbike is a work of art, I'm speachless. I went through his blog and read the story behind the building of the mock-up first, and the working one then. That's awesome! If only I didn't live half world apart, I'll surely be driving up to you just to shake your father's hand. Amazing, really.

Gorgeous! I just read the entire build on your website. As an engineer by trade, you did a great job. Hats off my friend!!

It is amazing the amount of research that would have been done to make this bike possible. We are talking about a motorcycle which has no surviving duplicate to work off of.

All I can say is that my dad (Pete Gagan) is like a kid at Christmas! He can't wait to show it off and is on his way to a few meets in the good ole U S of A over the next few weeks. Get out and see it while you can!!

Wow - I wasn't expecting it to sound as sweet as it does - sounds amazing and looks fab, I've only found this as I was trying to find out more about a picture I just came across of a strange vintage sleigh bike called Excelsior - Any link perhaps ?

Dee Lawrence my dad is still around. I can dm you his email, and even at the young age of 80, he’d be happy to answer any questions.

That's really cool. Paul Brodie is a genius when it comes to making stuff. I love that green. Do we know what color these original Excelsiors would have come in?

Aren't you jumping to conclusions a bit ahead of time? At this point I think it is pretty cool to see a piece of history recreated.

Geoff-g. Thanks for the video. Awesome stuff. Due to the lack of original video of these bad boys in action I had forgotten that the V-Twin straight pipes made some good noise. Most are static displays. Is this bike is a personal collection or on display somewhere? I roadrace some and my son rides dirt, he wa amazed at the sound this "bike" made. Many thanks! I know many men long past are smiling on this. God speed.

I detect some anger in your statement, oldjunk. Imagine, a couple of Canadians rebuilding a legendary American racing bike.
    The horror!
